So after changing the spark plugs and coils and wires I still had a missfire at high rpms. The good news is all the above was in need of changing anyway. My stock coils had 88k on them.
Well we narrowed the probelm down to the catalyst. It was the only thing that made sense.
What was happening to me:
-Could not redline the car at all
-Car would miss bad over 5k
-Some misses would be so bad that the car felt like it was hitting a brick wall out of no where.
Now after doing my exhaust the other day, it's now nice and loud. So when I found that cat was starting to clog, I was determined not to gut it.
So I found this chemical called cataclean. (I don't endorse any products or get paid to mention them)
The product is designed to be used in the gas tank every few months to clean out the catalyst.
Well mine was really bad and I needed it cleaned now.
So I ran it through the vaccum line just like I would with seafaom. you will need a friend to keep the rpms up in order to completely burn the chemical. Otherwise it will flood out. Trust me I lnow.
I then took my car and drove around town for 20 minutes before I got on it. Well I heard the shift beep for the first time since I have owned the car. It was the first time I have been able to hit 9k.
The car still currently has some hiccups above 8300 rpms. But I figured another bottle of cleaner in the gas tank should even that problem out.
In my honest opinion this is way better then having to deal with a check engine light from gutting the cat. Or even having to take it off in general.
