Do I have to remove Nav to shut it up?

My car does not have the original screen anymore. The kids recently found a DVD player in the rear console. The problem is the nav randomly tells me to make turns and then constantly tells me to make a legal u turn when possible. It's like the annoying voice in my head coming through the dash.
