Clutch mechanic in Richmond Hill/Markham Area

lundi 31 août 2015

Can anyone recommend a good and reputable place to replace the clutch?
Bearing/clutch is gone and car won't run. It needs to be tow.
It's sitting in Leslie/Hiway 7 area..the closer the shop the better as I don't have to pay more$$$ on towing.

RE Amemiya PCM

I was on RE Amemiya's site, (RX-8 section) with google translate on, and I still have no idea what they're talking about:

http://ift.tt/1JsJUTF

I get the first section of the page, which talks about ignition coils going bad, etc....but I'm really curious to know what they're discussing as far as the PCM calibrations and what their PCM's actually do, what kind of gains you see, if you need a CAI as well as exhaust upgrade to benefit, if they sell the actual PCM, or just do re-flashes, etc.

Does anyone know Japanese that can write up a better translation of this page?

Will the Cobb do the same thing essentially?

Planning on getting an rx8

Does anybody have any tips on buying an rx8? And also tips on maintaining and the need to knows about these cars.

Rx8 reverse lights not working

I had my transmission replaced some months ago. Now, the backup lights are not working. Just noticed it. Bulbs are good. Can't determine which fuse is correct. Don't know where to find/connect the tranny switch or it this is a computer issue.

This is a 2005 6Spd Manual RX8. Series I

Anyone deal with this before? Need to get the reverse lights working for inspection.

P2097, P0172 troubleshooting

Hey all,

I saw a few other threads with P0172, but the original posters never came back and said what fixed their issues. So, this is more for anyone that comes across this for later, as I'll keep it updated. Note that these codes are pending, and my car never had a CEL.

Symptoms: Power loss on the highway, trouble idling, and trouble returning to idle.

Measurements: When in cruise, car lost all power momentarily, then retuned. During this power loss, primary O2 read 11:1. A quick run to red line shows no symptoms, pulls fine with no issues in 2nd, 3rd with normal afrs in the rich range from the stock tune. This also will temporarily fix the power loss , and reading primary O2, it'll run mid 14s ...the...drop to 11 and instant power loss, all while in cruise.

At idle, it will struggle to maintain. When it idles fine, primary O2 reads upper 14s, then it'll instantly drop to 11 and the idle will get chunky. Note that smell from exhaust at this time does not smell rich.

Cat temps are normal, 1600 on a 75mph cruise.

Car: 2005 GT, 150k miles with 51k on a reman. Ls2 coils really the only engine mod. Plugs have less than 5k miles. Cat recently checked and looked fine.

Suspect: Primary O2 failure.

I have an extra OE one, will replace and update here.

If anyone else would like to add, please do!

What's up I've currently had my rx8 for 2 months looking to see if anyone is in my area or nearby. I got a 2005 mazda rx8 silver with touring and grand touring and only things that have been done to the car so far is a knn cold air intake and put leds around my headlights. Looking for ideas on what to do next to my car that isn't crazy expensive sense I'm still in school, planning on keeping with silver with blue accents on the inside and outside so hit me up.

RX8 limp mode randomly when driving 3-4k revs no more

Hi there, question from a newbie any help would be massively appreciated...
Driving my 04 rx8 231 today going along fine then suddenly the car wouldn't allow me to rev over 3-4k revs in any gear, I pulled over took key out for 10 seconds started again and was fine for 10 miles then it did the same thing... In a 25 mile trip back home this happened 5/6 times in different speeds/gears/revs but always started again fine when key removed for 10 seconds... Anyone experienced this before or able to give any advice? Had obd1 & 2 plugged in with no codes on 1 and 2 unable to connect
Thanks in advance frustrated owner! :)

Hey guys, i just got my 06 rx8 today from a dealership. Loving the car but when i got the car it only came with this part of the key. There wasn't the card looking part. I feel like i would lose this key because there's no hole in it for me to put on my key chain so i went to go have a key made but was told they couldn't make one. Do i have to go to mazda to have it made or is there something else i can do. I would love to have the buttons to lock my door remotely but its not a big deal.

Replacing Regensis With A JDM Replacement

Hey All,
I have been a card-carrying member of the rx7club for over ten years now. Love my rotaries. I am an ASE master-certified tech, so I have a good understanding of vehicles and components in general. I worked with Dave and Kim at KDR Performance in PA (now speed1) for a few years. That being said...

I recently blew the engine in my '04 RX8. Oddly enough, it broke in a manner I've never seen before. It now rattles when reving, almost like the rotor bearing is spun and the rotor is laterally walking and hitting the side housings. Low compression as well.

Now, I want to replace my motor. Looking around online, I was surprised at the cost of a remanufactured motor, so I was thinking I would use one of those 'JDM' companies and purchase a motor through them. I've done my fair share of JDM swaps in the RX7s, but never on an 8. Does anyone have any pointers or knowledge of differences between the two, or is it a simple swap (provided I am using the JDM ECU and harness)? Depending on the responses here, I will decide whether or not to go factory and spend the 5K, or a used JDM for 2.5K.

As always, thanks for you assistance on this and I look forward to your input.

Well today the wife and I painted the calipers on the Rex. Love the color love how it came out. It's a Metallic Copper. I disassembled the calipers and painted everything individually. I didn't want to go with red cause I don't think that would have looked good at all. I went with this color to compliment the blue and not look too ricer and faddish. Just a good compliment.

In the pictures it's more orange, but in the light it's beautiful.

speed1 cobb tunning anyone?

has anyone had there car tuned by kdr also speed1 from pa on here?? how much power did you make? were you happy with the results?

I Bought it

Sorry for the new threads the last few days, but thanks to everyone who's given me advice. I did it. This is rotary car # 7 for me. # 4 that is currently running. I'm super happy to have it. Here's to many years of RX-8 fun.

What would you expect from an RX-8 for 3000 dollars?

Anything that pops into your head, I'm curious.

Mileage, Engine state, interior state, exterior state, maintenance history, technical state overall.

Power loss in high temperatures, power returns when outside temperature gets colder?

I have no starting issues whatsoever. It starts just as well being cold as being warm.

As I was traveling for 10 hours straight, with some stops in between to fill up the gas (10 min max), I would notice that the warmer it has gotten, the more power the car lacked. Eventually I got somewhere where it was 45 degrees celsius (113 fahrenheit), and the car just barely had any power to call it a weak MX5. I would slam the accelerator in first gear and it would go slowly to 6K RPM and then start backfiring.

I was horrified, contemplating whether a seal has blown, the ignition partially failed, or anything else.

I decided to stop and check. First, since I had my AC running at max performance, this wall of heat hit me like a brick as soon as I got out of the car. It was HOT, and I was standing in between buildings in the shadow. Then I opened the hood and got blasted with a second wave of heat. I quickly grabbed the rod, almost burning myself and moved away for a few seconds. I have to mention that the coolant temperature meter was still in the middle, so it wasn't overheating.

Honestly, I wasn't even surprised that it was running to terribly. Even tho the performance was this terrible, the car did start without any issues! I started to think that it's the air flow meter that sends incorrect signals. I decided to drive anyway, since I was in a hurry. As the temperature was declining towards 20 degrees celsius, more and more performance came back.

I went to the dealership at home and I told him about the issue. He said it could potentially be the AFM, but might aswell be the PCM that needs an update (as I have said earlier that I've found it on the internet, that people had similar issues like me and had no problems anymore after the update).

Tho he didn't recommend me to leave it at the dealership, since he doesn't know much about the car (there are just 7 in maintenance, and they rarely see them), and looks up most of the stuff on the rx8 communities like this one.

Does any of you have experiences with this? Is it worthwhile to disconnect the AFM at the point when it starts giving trouble in heat so the system refers to the "static air/fuel map"?

Do you get attention in your RX-8?

I've seen some pretty hilarious stories on other forums so I thought I'd ask here. Even though this car is 12 years old, it still seems to turn a lot of heads! I always have guys taking pics, kids going  and people asking what the heck this car is. No doubt this car pulls a lot of attention, and I can't be alone here.

Lets here some stories guys! :)

{ FS } Rotor Oil Filler Cap - Blue anodized

Blue anodized aluminum rotor-shaped oil filler cap. This thing is substantial.
There are some light scratches and dings, but nothing that won't pass the fender-distance test.

I thought this was a Racing Beat cap, but it doesn't rotate like theirs does.
Looks close-enough that it might have been their "1.0" version, but I don't know who actually made it.
The O-ring on this cap is oval and sticks out from the underside to provide an excellent seal on the filler neck.
Any oil that sloshes out is going into your intake and not out the cap. :wink2:

$20 plus shipping. Insurance optional. Local pickup OK.

Payment via USPS money order.
If you have an excellent trader score and no negatives I'll take a personal check too.
I won't cover paypal fees if you wish to use that payment method.

Thanks for looking.

SBG: RX-8 Plug and Play IGN-1A Ignition Coil Kit

Hey everyone,

We just shipped our first batch of orders out, and are eagerly awaiting feedback from everyone that bought them! We've been playing around with these on our new shop RX8 test mule for a little while now. We've had such great success with these coils on the FD3S that it only seemed fair to adapt it to the RX8, especially considering the coil issues that plague this car :fingersx:

Click the image to open in full size.

The RX8 kit will be very similar to our FD3S kit. We’ve put these coils through the ringer with at least a couple hundred setups out there over the last few yearswith absolutely fantastic results. These are running on everything from stock cars with stock ECU’s to 700+HP 13b FD turbo e85 builds. These coils were basically built for the rotary and are dead on reliable. The RX8 kit will come with:

- RX8 specific mount (in stock coil location)
- Full plug-and-play standalone wiring harness (RX8 specific harness, plug and play connectors, direct power from battery, high amp relay, milspec wiring, and high-temp silicone abrasion/ heat resistant cover).
- Ultra-low resistance custom spark plug wires
- Mounts 4 IGN-1A/AEM smart coils.

For those not familiar with the IGN-1A coils, they were specifically designed for two-stroke marine racing engines, designed to be extremely high output with extraordinarily fast recharge times. Since rotaries fire twice as often per revolution compared to a piston engine, LS coils or other piston-engine specific coils have a really hard time recharging fast enough. While the LS coils are capable of high output they've been designed with a 6,000rpm redline. 9,000rpm on a rotary is the equivalent of 18,000rpm on a piston engine. The LS coils were never built do do that... the IGN-1A's were ;)

Click the image to open in full size.

These will work with the stock ECU dwell time settings (we run them on stock FD ecu's as well with great results), but for high HP builds or forced induction on an aftermarket ECU, they really shine. The IGN-1A are hands down THE coils for rotary applications and we haven't come across anything that can keep up yet.

Here's our FD kit for reference: Complete Package - IGN-1A Ignition Upgrade Kit + LHD Mount (FD3S RX-7) - SakeBomb Garage LLC

And now from some information on our coil mount. We designed a completely new bracket specifically for the RX8 to allow you to mount your coils in the stock location. We'll be honest, it's a bit cozy in there once everything's installed, but then again you're replacing your stock coils with new ones that take up literally three times the volume.

These use the bolts for the AC compressor, so you will need standoffs if you don't have AC. It'll be hard to find bolts long enough since it's a bit of an unusual size, but you should be able to make do with a pair of studs and threaded hex standoffs the correct length. Please message us if you have any questions and we're more than happy to help out :)

We're still doing an introductory sale on this kit ($650 now, price goes up to $725 at the end of September) so if you're interested in preemptively fixing a common failure point on your RX8, make sure to grab it now before the price goes back up.

That's all for now, feel free to ask any questions and we'll be happy to answer them!

Open vs Closed Loop, Is it lying to me.

The Car, Pettit Rebuild.
The Tool, Access Port.
2004 (03 build) 6 speed.

The Process to date:
Did a MAF Scale, and Injector Scale following the Kane process. Seemed to all make sense, not real issues in the scaling department. No big number changes except around 2,350 RPM / 50 MPH. Sorted that to the swap between the mid and high LTFT around 10 to 20 gps. Once I got those two trims about the same, the weird swings have gone away.

The engine is "street ported". I have been updating the VE map to allow for the different characteristics. I am making progress, screwing up a little, but getting better. I think I found a problem in my method though. I have been assuming that if STFT was changing, that the ECU was still in closed loop. Today I started mapping Open Loop areas with partial load and noticed that if I compare commanded AFR to Actual AFR (Equ Ratio) I get some large changes that are DIFFERENT from the fuel trims even when the STFT is moving around. I think that means that I cannot rely on a moving STFT to indicate Closed Loop.

When I went to the Closed Loop Exit Load tables, I found 3. I have no idea the difference between them, but they all pretty much track a similar line marking out a quadrant of the RPM / Load table. And all of them say the car should definitely be out of Closed Loop in areas where I am seeing STFT adjustments. I think this means that the car is closed loop only in the little corner defined by the Exit Loads (below 4,500 RPM and 50% load). And, if it tells me that it is adjusting fuel trims outside this area is is pretty much lying to both me and itself. I think I want to believe the target AFR and Actual AFR number over the Fuel Trim outside the little corner. Right?

Also, as a note, when the car does go OL, the STFT does NOT go to 0, it just stays where it was.

And, for reference, the numbers I see at high load say the car is running about 20% lean.

Thoughts?

DIY: Power Steering Wiring Fix

i know the power steering issue has been covered at great length over the course of the past several years but i wanted to take a moment to share my solution, hopefully it'll numb a few headaches for those 8 owners struggling with this problem.

i spent a lot of time cleaning the power steering connections to resolve my intermittent power steering issues, sometimes i would get weeks of driving, sometimes only minutes.

i tried nearly everything, i even replaced the entire wiring harness with one much newer. took the time to clean it and wrap it all nicely. very pleased with how it came out, but it didn't fix my issue.

finally, i decided to bypass the notorious connector that sits just below the radiator overflow using some wire taps and a little 16 gauge wire. problem solved!! this fix only costed me 8$.

all i did was cut back the insulation on the harness a few inches on each side and use the taps to bridge an extra set of wires over the connector. leaving the original connecter intact.

...obviously you don't need wires quite this big, but it's what i had laying around.

then a little wrapping and some zip ties... and voila!! power steering for everyone!!! :wiggle:

Would you rather: reman motor or healthy "stock" one

I've been looking at buying a 2009 RX8 R3 with 60,000 miles on it. The dealer did a compression test, and the engine failed, so they're getting a reman from Mazda.

The dealer is asking $14K.

A buddy of mine tells me that this (reman engine) is fantastic news, and I should jump on it. But should I actually be concerned about the vehicle since it required a new engine? I mean, does the fact that it needs this new engine suggest that the vehicle may need other serious work?

Or should I be happy that this car will have what amounts to a new engine?

And my other question (and my subject line): If you had your druthers, and all other things being equal, would you rather buy an RX8 with a healthy, original engine or one with a reman engine?

Rotary tuning in Barrie, Ontario

Does anyone have any suggestions as to where to take my rx8 in or around Barrie? I'd rather not have to drive down into the city. Thanks in advance

ABS problems

so I double and triple checked all ABS wiring. I have no ABS light on dash. I miraculously found my original ABS and that's back on the car... still the wheel locks up in parking lot test.

where do I go from here? I searched around and everyone seems to have issues with the ABS light turning on or car throwing various abs codes. Nobody talks about actually locking up the wheels when there is no abs light. Do I need to reset anything? or drive around for awhile to get it to work? I frequently disconnect battery for various reasons. thanks in advance.

Little different hard start issue...

2004 GT w/MT.

Starts and runs very well. 105K miles. Last compression check from dealer was within spec.

What is strange, is when doing a warm start, the engine cranks and cranks without firing until I release the key. The moment I release the key, it kicks over and lights right up. On the first try, every time. Let it turn for a sec, release the key, fire right up.

It almost seems like there isn't sufficient electrical power to both turn the starter and fire the engine. But that doesn't make a lot of sense.

Anyone else seen this type of behavior?

Possibly buying today, a few quick questions.

So, I'm looking at a lightning yellow 04 today. The owner claims oil changes every 3k and premix with premium on fill ups. I've only seen pictures though, so I need to know if there's other things I should check.

Most notably, are their any areas quick to rust I should be concerned about. I live in a coastal area so rust can be an issue for some cars. I know the FC had a lot of problems with rust in the rear wheel wells, but I'm having a hard time finding more info on the 8.

Other than that, I know to check the typical rotary stuff, but other than that, are there any electrical issues I should be on the lookout for? Or possibly any ways to tell if the motors/ignition/anything else is starting to go? I've read that the shifter shaking some is pretty common as well, but is there a point where it could be too much without it just flopping around?

Thanks for the help. I'm really pulling for this car to be as nice as the owner says. Next closest yellow is 250 miles and it's wrecked.

Need some help with this.

jeudi 27 août 2015

So before anybody ask me I am new to owning an rx8 even though ive wanted one for years. I bought a used 2004 rx8 automatic for around 1500. The shop i bought it from said that it had a bad timing belt and cam shaft( i know that isn't true lol) so i got the car and of course it needed a rebuild for no compression. Got it done and put the engine back in and bolted it to the tranny. Now my dilemma my torque converter is fully seated in the trans and i can't get it to the flexplate so i can put the four bolts back in. Is there a way to access it so i can align the flexplate and the tc. I seen somewhere about the starter orifice. Last thing to do help please.

Stuck In A Hole

Hello guys my name is Jahmari from Boston, Mass but I live in Huntsville, AL. I am 19 and I got tricked out into this car. I bought it no warranty and the engine died on me in 2 weeks. Took it to mazda and they told me I need a whole new engine because it is failing the compression test. Plus the guy who sold it to me from the dealership isn't trying to help me and on top of that I already put in 5gs on it and I owe him $2,200... So I'm all kinds of messed up right now.

I need to know what engine replacement I can get for cheap or what other engine I can get installed in it. Its a 2004 Mazda Rx8 blue semi-automatic. Please help me because I need a game plan and I've been stressing out. Plus I tried to sue but my car doesn't fall under the Tennessee lemon law nor federal lemon-law. That's me and the car in the picture...

Do stock wheels degrade over time?

I was told by a tire dealership that the edge on my wheels where the tire attaches is getting worn.

I was losing a couple of pounds of pressure on all 4 tires periodically, then it got to be every other week I was in the store having them add air. The tires still had a lot of tread on them, so they said they would do a "temporary fix" and "sealed" around the tires. I could see a black sealant in places. Since then, no problem for a long time. But I think it's starting to happen again.

So do I need new wheels?

Wont start and smells like gas

I'm looking into getting a UK spec 2004 RX-8 with 60k miles for pretty cheap, $1500, and the guy is saying it needs Apex Seals. Once I actually started talking to him he said that the car stalled out on him and he could smell gas, so he thinks it might just be flooded. He drives it 5 minutes to work and back and it stalled out on him between there and had to have it towed to his house. He hasn't driven it since it stalled out and he hasn't been able to start it. To me it sounds like its just flooded. If it was the Apex seals then he should at least be able to get it started momentarily but with possibly a rough idle and low compression. I'm sure it depends on how bad the seals actually are.

He said he's tried the de-flooding procedure but with no success. If it is just flooded then the car would be a steal, and even if I have to rebuild the engine then I still would make out pretty good depending on how much damage there is to the internals and how much I actually have to replace.

I'm curious if anyone has any advice on what it could be, if not the Apex seals, or what I should do. Ive read up on how to get it started with the de-flooding procedure then if that doesnt work pulling the plugs and disconnecting the crank sensor. Then comes the issue of him possibly not burning off the built up carbon regularly. How much damage does that do to the engine and would the car even be worth buying then.

Meeting of Mazda's 2015 {Bruce Mills Conservation, Sept 20th, 2015}

Hello Guys,

As usual, the Toronto Mazda 3 club is putting together the Meeting of Mazda's Event being held at its usual location (Bruce Mills Conservation Area in Stoufville) on September 20th. Probably at 10am I would say, no details yet but I will update.

As usual I believe there is a 5$/Person entry at the park, and I believe the rest of the event is free. Free BBQ, lots of games, and prizes.

Also they will be doing the award classes. I spoke with the organizer of the event. As of right now there will only be a rotary class. But if we can get 15 rx8's to come, we can get our own separate 1st, and 2nd place Rx8 award.

Awards aside, still a very fun event for all of us to get together and see eachother and have a good time.

Tracking down my asymptomatic P0301 still

Just getting all my thoughts written down somewhere, so this will probably turn into a ramble. Let me preface this by getting my dumb question out of the way, just in case. Rotors are numbered front to back just like every other engine in the world, right? I know I've done far worse.

Had a thread about this before and had to push off taking care of it because accelerated summer courses pretty much buried me for 12 weeks. Quick background is no problems, code pops up on start up and hangs around. It'd go away for a bit randomly them come back. Reset and did 20 brake stomp and didn't come back for a few hundred miles. Then came back on start up and stuck around since then. Still no symptoms at all. ESS clean as it can get. Plugs, wires, and coils were about 6k miles old according to the PO (he bought the car, did a full tune up, then had to sell since he had a surprise kid on the way after 2k miles on it himself). Anyways I went ahead and swapped out the plugs on rotor 1. No code for a day or so. Then when I was out running errands I started the car after running into the school store and it popped back on. That was yesterday. Moving up I plan on changing the coils unless someone has another idea. I can post up a picture of the old plugs if that'll help. Stuff in and around the engine block is still pretty new territory to me, so I'm not sure if I read them right.

On another note I picked up some Duplicolor custom wrap clear coat to use on the front of the car since the paint has been getting eaten up by a 50 mile round trip commute 3-5 days a week. Sprayed it to essentially make a clear coat car bra. 1 trip down and it's holding up good. Cool stuff and feels better than plastidip.

Marbles in a can like noise!!!

Goodday Rx8 members, I own a 2004 Mazda rx8, we recently replaced the engine, the engine kicks well but the problem is with the "marble in a can like noise" after starting the car even if its in a stationary position, wat could be the problem. Compression is OK.. Your help will be highly appreciated.

P0661 Misfires and what is this?

I bought a 2004 RX8 not too long ago. At least in miles. Got the OBD light blinking when I drove is so I parked it until a couple days ago when I got a faulty O2 (Rear) replaced. I'm interested in doing things myself but will admit my talents are electronic not automotive (I swapped an engine once but... I can't say I knew what I was doing) Anyhow. Got the new sensor. life is good. I'm driving around for a little while and it starts blinking again (Misfires) the light stops blinking and stays off for a trip into town. I think the blinking was always when I was ******* it. Slowing down which this car doesn't appear to enjoy. If I was in a gear and had good RPMs all seemed to run well. I don't think downshifting caused it but... Can't be sure. Anyway I got it home parked it (I don't want to blow up the engine) and I checked the OBD and got the expected multiple event (Misfires) and a new one P0661. *New one being as the O2 sensor replacement stopped generating new O2 errors from happening so I think I got one thing fixed.

Anyhow. I'm not being too familiar with whats under the hood I looked in and this was hanging loose and appeared to be capable of falling into the radiator fan. As you can see there is no engine cover (What did he do with it? Throw it away?)

I'm pretty sure its for controlling air and maybe the electronic body is?? The source of the P0661 error and perhaps the misfires?

Can anyone please id this thing? I've tried looking at pix of other RX8 but ?? I don't think its part of this after marker air intake but???? And help / suggestions will be greatly appreciated. I would like to do everything myself otherwise I would go to the dealer or? $$ is a bit tight and I have the ol' truck while I tinker.

*Funny part. I asked my neighbor who is something of a car guy to look at this and he noted that the end had a cap/seal on it. He blew into it and remarked at least it seems clear. Then he asked me "Wheres the engine" ha! The size of the rotary engine amazed him.

Remove Fan motor without removing assembly? Plus weird fan death.

Hello guys. My passenger side fan stopped working. Relays checked out ok. Way back last year the damn rubber grommet got stuck and jammed the same fan. It worked until last week though. Could it be because of that? It's like, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I can tell from the temp spikes from my OBD2 scanner. When it's not working, the temp would climb up pretty fast. And then maybe 5 hours later when I take the car out, the temps stay fine, and the fan works. But for the past couple of days it stopped working.

What could be the issue?

If the motor is dead, is there a way to replace the motor only without pulling the assembly out?

Is there a way to get the fan assembly out without pulling out the radiator?

I don't want to break the radiator nipple off.

New member, Hot start issue

Hey guys new member I'm actually from Australia but decided to join here as well to get other opinions.

I've only had my RX8 about a month or so, in this time I've been doing a lot to clean it up. Oil & filter, plugs, leads, coils, fuel cleaner etc.

Ever since I replaced the plugs, leads and coils however I've been having issues with Hot starts. I've researched this problem and it doesn't look good :( Some say run through a pre-mix something I'm currently doing, some say its the starter motor, worse case it's compression.

However in the two instances I've had over the last few weeks where I tried to start it while warm and it wouldn't start, engine deflooding procedures have worked to fix the issue.

The first time I left it for a bit and tried again after removing the fuel pump fuse. It almost started but then obviously ran out of fuel. It felt that I almost didn't need to do the fuse trick.

The 2nd time today was after getting fuel. Now I had just put in premix of oil so this could have caused issues but holding my foot on the accelerator to deflood worked fine and the car started on the 1st attempt afterwards albeit a little slow.

I've looked at a number of threads and I thought I'd still ask because I'm worried that this could be a compression issue but I'm a little confused why defrauding would help it start?

Not sure what I bought..

mardi 25 août 2015

Hey all

I just bought a 05 6spd manual jap imported type S.

Firstly - Have no idea which engine it has. (4/6 port) and how can I tell?

Secondly - what's the difference between stock rx8s. Type S and Type RX?

Finally how fast should it use coolant? I used 2 litres over 450km is that normal? 98,000kms Cars had 2 owners. One in Japan for 7yrs. One here in NZ for 2. Been serviced by Mazda every 6 months according to the service sheets. No problems I saw.

All help much appreciated :)

Manual mazda rx8

Hey,
Im looking at the rx8 and was curious if it's bad to buy one with over 100k km. i know that they require alot of maintence before i buy it im gonna do a comppression test if that goes well does that mean the engine will last even though it has alot of km the one im looking at has 164k kms.

Opinion on Rx8

im looking to buy an rx8 and have found one that seems interesting. I have read around and learned a lot about rx8's but i am not anywhere close to knowing what to make of this. The rx8 in question is a 2004 gt with 100k km on it (about 60k miles) and it seems to be in good condition. the asking price is 500$ CAD. seems like a good buy but there were a few modifications done to it that worry me apart from the standard ones like suspension changes and regular maintenance. the original owner added a second oil reservoir to send oil straight to the apex seals so it does not steal any used oil from the engine... im not sure how it works but that was the explination of how it works that was given to me by the person selling it. secondly there is a midpipe instead of the regular catalizer and some sort of filter type thing to help keep the carbon from building in the engine. i think he called it a catchcan if im remembering correctly. any opinions on theses modifications before i go see it (and if i like it i will of course take it for a compression test).
thanks a lot in advance for any useful help :)

Compression Test and Warranty Questions

Awhile ago I posted about overheating the car badly and having no power. Well it never blew the coolant seals but I had to gut the cat. I never went in for a compression test because I didn't want to throw away $150 and also I had to leave the car with them for a couple days while they sourced a tester. Well one of my friends is a rotary nut and told me he could give me a rough compression test to at least let me know if its solid or done.

The result was Rotor 1 at 80ish PSI on all 3 faces and rotor 2 at 95ish psi on all 3 faces. I used a rotary calculator and if its accurate rotor 2 is just under passing and rotor 1 is screwedddddd.

My engine warranty expired a month ago and I called the mazda dealership to see if they can help me and they said they were going to source a tester and see if mazda would cover it. Has anyone be able to get mazda to cover a motor just outside of factory warranty?

Expert Advice Needed

Hi guys,
If I'm being honest I am a new driver, I don't know much about cars and haven't got myself a car yet. I layed my eyes on a RX-8 and I just think I fell in love then. I have heard and been told that they may be a little tricky to maintain for a new driver. Me on the other hand am trying to ignore this as I would really love an RX-8 as my first car! I would appreciate if somebody could advise me on if I should get an RX-8 as my first car and would it really be that difficult to maintain?

{ FS } 2004 Titanium Grey RX8 6MT Grand Touring

The time has come to sell my beloved 2004 Mazda RX-8 GT Titanium Grey, 109k miles. :o: for $4,000. I’ve been the same owner since 6k miles
Body is in good shape and paint is still shiny as it is a Florida car that has been garage stored its’ whole life when not in operation; even my work has a garage. Religiously washed monthly, clay bar & waxed every 3 months. All regular fluids changed on schedule. All paperwork. Never been in a major accident; someone dinged my driver’s side bumper and it has a scratch and cut on it but not noticeable until up close. There is also a 1” scratch on the driver’s side passenger suicide door.
Has strakes, color matching oem aero flare kit, front mud flaps, front and rear rotary symbols and decklid spoiler
It has a brand new Exedy OEM clutch installed, new motor mounts
Light flywheel
Has a Series 2 Transmission since 55k miles, Miata shift **** and it is absolutely butter to row
Updated starter, alternator changed around 55k miles
New radiator, coils, spark plugs at 90k miles
Racing Beat Exhaust
No CEL or other warning lights on, sunroof works fine
All interior and exterior lights, HID lights, are functional. No water in tail lamps as I sealed them
Bose Radio and most speakers work except for center speaker. I am thinking it is a connection to the amp.
Interior and Black Leather is well kept. Slight crack on passenger dash.
Matching four Fuzion ZRi Summer Tires 245/40/18 with some meat left 5/32" on Stock Wheels with Rotary center caps

The car appears to be running great but I think it has a coolant leak somewhere. This is the engine which Mazda put in at 60k miles. I recently smell burning coolant through the vents and had to add some coolant last week. It starts up quickly and runs strong. I checked again this week and fluid level is still is within range. Car sold as-is but I am thinking it *may* need an engine rebuild soon.

I love this car and very much enjoyed the last eleven years I have owned it even despite the shortcomings. My priorities have changed though from when I first bought this car. I am now married and have a couple of young kids, bought a house, and even a dog so I cannot dedicate the time to keep her running and need the space and reliability of a new *gasp* family sedan. I hope to get something to hold me over until the kids are grown and I can get something I really love again. Hopefully, this goes to a good home. I am in the Tampa Bay area and am available most weekdays after 5:30 or weekends to show the car. Worst case scenario I take it and just trade it in but first checking to see if any 8 enthusiasts are interested.

Attached are some quick pics I just took. Car hasn't been cleaned in three weeks so imagine it cleaner!
