Hello everyone. I recently came across a poor RX-8 that was left to rust.
A friend found it and the owner just wanted to part it out and scrap it.
Luckily I'm here to make use of it.
I am the second owner.
It's an 04 RX-8 in black with the red and black leather interior.
Here's how it sat for 10 months before I got to it:
We had to drag it out as one rear break locked up thanks to this midwest rust.
You can see rust has gotten to the rocker panels and rear wheel wells pretty badly
And here's the interior, which is pretty good shape. The drivers seat is really the only thing showing wear.
So I hosed it off and with the help of a good friend managed to get it running:
That motor is pretty done. The car is 94k on it so the owner got their use out of it.
It also came with a good amount of toys such a upgraded sway bars, brakes, Stainless steel lines. a cobb access port, iPod interface, short throw shifter, and two sets of wheels.
My long term plans for this car is to turn it into my drift project. I have my daily already situated so this will be the fun car.
I plan to completely gut the car and sell off everything I don't need or want.
I'll probably cut out the rust and get a wide body kit or something similar to not only hide the damage but make the car look great.
Naturally this means I'll be removing the 13B that's in there and finding another engine to swap it.
I've explored a few different options from SR20's to 2JZ's and RB series motors.
Even after doing some research and reading some V6 swap threads here I thought about different off the wall motors and nobody would ever think to use.
I've only had the car for 3 days and still have much to do to get things rolling.
I've been looking for a new toy and this kind of found me. So how could I turn down a fun project like this. It's just what the doctor ordered to start the fun!
After some research It looks like these things handle really well. Can't wait to drive it!
