seeking help... from Spain!

lundi 8 septembre 2014

Hello everybody!

My name is Filippo, I'm from Rome but I've been living abroad for many years now (now in Spain, before I've been in UK... who knows next!) and I'd like to buy a second hand RX-8 (first series since the second series didn't reach the Spanish market). I've got few questions for which I haven't been able to find clear answers online, in any of the known languages!

Till know I've understood that it is better to "avoid" 2004-2005 units, for a number of weaker components that sooner or later would lead to the "flooding" issue. So is there a clear indication to detect these units? Do they have a specific chassis number? Like up to nº "...XXX45456", or a model code (like 2-3 letters of the chassis number) or simply a engine number somewhere on the engine?

All the 5 speed manuals have the 192hp 4 ports engine? So that all the 6 speed manual are all 6 ports 231hp? Are there clear aesthetic differences between the 192hp and the 231hp, like do the 4 port have the redline at 7500rpm? All models with fabric interiors are 192hp?

If I'd find a good one I guess it would be better to bring it to a Mazda Dealer for a compression test. How long would it take the test?

What's the life span of this Renesis I 13B? Looking at cars with around 60.000 miles on the clock, should I already expect the compression score to be around 7.0? In this case does make more sense to drop the engine and swap it or, open it and rebuild it?

Many thanks in advance to everybody!
