{ FS } 2004 Winning Blue 6MT - Recent New Engine

mardi 23 septembre 2014

So, I think I am finally tired of this car and ready to move on to something new. I've been paying quite a bit lately to fix things on the car and I just don't want to be dealing with it any more. I am actually, to be honest, pretty frustrated lately. But, my frustration and aggravation is your gain. I've paid tons of money to fix issues, so now you won't have to (or at least not those issues, lol)! As much as I enjoy not having a car payment, I hate wondering when the next time this thing is going to be in the shop and for what. If you're on this forum, you're probably educated enough to know what you're getting into, so hopefully my having put out the money to save you some of the troubles is enough to entice you to be interested.

Details:

2004 6MT w/ standard cloth interior and moonroof. I am the only owner, I put a deposit on the car as a birthday present to myself before it was even released after I saw it at the NY Auto Show.

Approx 100k miles, the engine was replaced about a year/year and a half ago; it has < 20k miles on it. At that time the clutch and rear brakes were also replaced. This was performed by a Mazda dealer w/ a reman engine.

The car has the MP3 CD unit (installed after the fact because it wasn't released with it) and it has an aftermarket amplifier (Zapco) and 3-way speakers (DLS Iridium 8.3).

There is a dent on the trunk and a few paint chips here and there, but overall for a 10 year old car the exterior is in good shape.

The interior hasn't held up quite as well. The center console doesn't seem to want to stay shut any more and there is some cracking around the passengers side airbag (though it has never deployed). Also the air conditioning **** is a little fragile, these seem to break on people, I've already replaced them once, didn't feel like doing it again.

The car has never been in any major accidents, though three times I've had idiots hit it in parking lots. The first two times the damaged body panels were replaced, the last one left the dent on my trunk and I was fed up with fixing it -- guess it worked, though, because, knock on wood, since then it's never been hit again.

Recent old-age issues that have been fixed (or are being fixed):

- Steering wheel harness corrosion -- the power steering would go out intermittently or the car would be hard to steer. The harness was cleaned up and reinstalled, no issues since.

- The airbag light was blinking recently, it seems this is a common issue and the dealer is currently replacing the airbag harness. I am doing this because it is a safety issue and I couldn't sell an unsafe vehicle.

- The oil lines are rusting out, the car has just recently began leaking oil (I keep a mindful eye on the oil checking it weekly, so it was immediately apparent I was losing oil significantly faster than the car usually injects and burns it, lol). I am planning to order the Racing Beat oil lines to replace the rusting stock lines (if they get back to me) because they are only approximately $500 as opposed to $1100 or more for the stock parts!

I'm not sure what to ask, I paid the dealer $6k to replace the engine/clutch/brakes and the RB installation is going to be at least $800 so, I'll have over $6800 in it in the last year or so alone. The stereo components are worth at least $2k (I can certainly remove them if you don't want them, but I no longer have the stock speakers, so only the rears will remain).

That said, I think a fair price (once the oil system is fixed) is $8k. It's a little over KBB, but you get a brand new engine and many of the common old-age RX-8 issues have been fixed already. If you want to haul the car away (I wouldn't recommend driving it, I have to put a half quart in right now after every 30 miles at the rate it's leaking) and do the oil lines yourself, we can negotiate lower.

I'll can't take pictures just yet because they car is still at the dealer, but I just wanted to put this out there as I've been test driving the other cars and I want to put in an order,l but I can't until I at least have an idea that I can move this.

Thanks for looking! Any questions please feel free to ask!
