The topic is:
P0410 Secondary Air Injection System and P2259 Secondary Air Injection System Control B Circuit Low.
The CEL goes on not after every start (but most after clearing) but when it does light up very soon after ignition (makes me think air pump - isn't that when it's checked?) but it has been happening more frequently as it has been getting hotter - which makes me think air solenoid.
replace the air solenoid? air pump? both? diagnostic, then proceed?
I took off the UIM yesterday and cleaned the AIR / SSV / VDIC connections with some contact cleaner and put some dielectric grease on the contact.
I don't have a 12v to check the solenoid but when i blew threw it the exhaust did flow through the correct way.
Options as i see them:
1) take to get diagnostic (but I imagine they'll just rely on in codes and not test the solenoid or air pump) Cost= 100-125$
2)replace air solenoid (and ssv vdic while i'm at it). cost prob around 180$
not a huge difference in $. the car has 97K on and all 3 solenoids should be replaced anyway but hard to spend the cash on something that not broken/wrong if not needed.
Also, if I do go and replace the solenoids i'd like to hear thoughts on other additional service/maintenance things I can also address while i've got the UIM off. not that it's very hard to remove and do these things but might as well get them done while i'm in there.
not planning on doing anything for a few days so looking forward to thoughts.
