{WTB} Looking for parts

vendredi 31 juillet 2015

Hello all, I am in the La Grange TX area and have acquired a winning blue RX8 that is missing these The previous owner installed k&n filter and need to get rid of it.
- Complete OEM air intake box with accordian tube
- shift **** 6spd manual

Also, if anyone has a used bhr ignition kit or midpipe let me know!
Thanks!

Need help finding fog light cover/grille

So I bought an rx8 with a few issues, one of them being that its missing the cover/grille that goes right beside the driver side fog light(in the US). I've been looking all over the internet and can't find one for sale. I've found plenty of passenger side ones but 0 for drivers side. I need help! I've looked on eBay, amazon, Craigslist and no luck.

Thanks to anyone who can help me!

{ FS } New Tein Street Basis Coilovers...

I ordered these about a month ago and plans have changed, so I no longer have any need for them. They are literally brand spanking new- took them out of the box for inspection and they've been sitting in my closet ever since. Price is firm and includes shipping to your door (MSRP on these is $699, Good Win has them for $669). I'll be losing money on this deal, but my loss is your gain! You can contact me via this thread, PM's, or email me at lucas.caruthers061287@gmail.com

I don't have pictures on my laptop, but I do have some on my phone, which I do not have with me at the moment, so I'll be posting pictures later. Thank you!

GT or R3

Hi all. I am debating between an R3 and a GT series II . I like the styling of the R3 but I'm having a hard time finding one. Much easier to find a GT.

Forgive the newbie question, but what are your thoughts on me buying a GT and then making a few changes to get it to look like An R3?

The suspension is not a factor for me, and neither are the Ricaro seats. And for what it's worth, I'm not too concerned about the sunroof either. What I do like about the R3 is the styling on the sides and the 19 inch wheels and black rims

If buying a GT and making these mods is a good option, what body kit do you recommend to get the skirt to look like they are three? And what rims and wheels do you recommend?

Thanks everyone for any help you can offer! :-)

low pressure fuel pump vs High pressure fuel pump

What would be the symptoms of running a rx8 with a cheap low pressure fuel pump ,

As I have a issue , my car starts fine at any time without hesitation , but it wont start at all like no compression for like 2 minutes if I switch off the car after flooring it like hell..

Having trouble passing evap monitor for emissions test

I have been working on getting the rx8 ready for my smog check, being it is a obd2 vehicle the test now only consist of the monitors to be ready/passed. All of my monitors are ready except evap, I currently have no pending or hard fault codes, all factory evap equipment is hooked up. I'm assuming that no codes are present the system has not detected any leaks or faulty equipment. I have driven the car quite a bit with no luck. Does anyone know what the system is looking for to allow the monitor to pass? The shop manual does not provide a learning procedure. I have verified the purge solenoid clicks on and off if I add voltage to it.

I know for some manufacturers they can manually get the monitor to learn, can this be done with the 8?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Need some help not your typical low rpm issue

Ok so Yes I am new to this forum but not to the rotor. So the issue is this slow cranking on both cold and warm. Car idles fine but when put into gear idles low and stalls unless I reset trims (20 brake stomp). My rx is a 2005 and this is the list of cleaned / replaced:

New Plugs (ngk)
New wires (msd)
New cols (not sure of brand came from auto part store)
Cleaned Maf
Cleaned Throttle body
checked and gutted cat (figured why not)
teseted new coils to verify not DOA
Compression test (high 7's and low 8"s)
sprayed carb cleaner all around bay to find vac leaks (no luck)
Cleaned and reset ess (battery disconnect)

Radio/Display Doesn't Work After Removal

Hey guys,

I installed an AUX input connector on the OEM Bose head unit and upon reinstallation the unit I got this:

A brief search says I may have cracked the faceplate circuit board...after disassembly of the head unit, visual inspection and reassembly, the display works, but is dim and the stereo does not work...HVAC controls do work...

Has anyone encountered this before? I'm thinking I'll be looking for a new stereo, but I haven't completely ruled out that I yanked a wire back there, since there's very little slack.

New member with starter issues

I've been a member for a while, but haven't posted much. I'm working on an automatic 2004 for a friend. The starter was on its way out, so I replaced it with an Auto Zone reman, and it won't disengage after the engine starts. I've tried two of them now with the same results. Is it just bad luck I'm having with Auto Zone parts, or am I doing something wrong?

Metra 95 - 7510 Wiring question (stereo wiring harness)

okay so i got my dash and center console torn all apart and im kinda stuck here... this is one of the most complicated wiring harness ive ever seen! theres the regular looking harness part (red connector) and the part that connects to the "axxess box" (white connector)...

for the most part its really simple the red connector handles the Left and Right, Front and Back speakers (pos and neg groups ofcourse) but the white connector has Left Rear Positiv and Negative also Solid green , and Green with Grey stripe! why the heck would they do that? do i just tie it in with the other ones from the red connector(solid Green, and Green with Black stripe)????

someone please help i got my car torn all appart and this is buggin me!

Also i got the back up camera license plate cover just for the hell of it and cause the head unit supports it so i figured its just a waste not to use it and the camera was 20 bucks.... where would i tie in the backup signal ?

Compression test results. Boo..

Well, the past few weeks ive noticed the car had a lack of power, and I figured it was needing MSP16 performed on it, seeing as how I live in florida and the ambient temps are 80+ easily right now.

I take it to Mazda to have the reflash done, as it was listed as being open, but a customer pay item, and the tech comes back with a printout (actually one of the few competent techs at the dealers I'd say) and shows me IDS is saying it has the most up to date PCM reflash available.

The tech said since I was quoted a price for the reflash, and the reflash was done already, if I wanted they could do a compression test and only pay for that. So, I figured why not.

Tech comes back with this =( I know its failing, but for those of you that have seen/dealt with failing MSP's before, any estimations on how bad it is or how long?

Car has very little power when I go WOT, but it doesn't have any hard starting problems yet..

Ive been considering what rebuilder i'm going with, or maybe picking up a Jspec if I can source one that has decent compression.

New rims, and have fun finding them!

ATS rims my friend had for his RX-7 FC, he totaled it and they were sitting around.

I went over to lower my car more (BC coilovers) and he was curious how they would look on my car.
We lowered the back an inch and the front 1 3/4 inches and had to roll the fenders to make the rear wheels fit.

Rear 18x11 265/35R18 Kuhmo Ecsta MX
Front 18x9.5 225/40R18 Kuhmo Ecsta MX

The rear fit so perfectly it shocked us both, the front needs 25mm spacers which are on their way.

Figured I would share since I don't think these rims are available anymore!
The real killer though, The wheels and brand new tires only cost me $750.. >: ]

Apple Car play compatible stereo/navigation screen for Series 1?

I have heard new navigation displays including Apple Carplay now; wondering, if anyone knows which one's work well to integrate into my series 1?

Thanks.

I'm lost...

Ok, so I have a '04 6spd that I have had for about half a year, and I have had a stuttering issue from day one.

I've tried cleaning the MAF, that did not affect anything. Then a few days ago I got around to removing the SSV and cleaning it and inside the housing. I ran it and it helped the stutter a lot, but it's still there. It used to be very rough at around 7500 rpm, and now it is a very sudden maybe half second pause at around 8000 rpm. I bought a used Cobb AP and installed it with the stage 1 tune, and it completely got rid of the stutter, but only for one drive cycle. What happened was I installed the AP and went for a very long drive. The entire time the stutter was gone. But then the same night I went back out, but the stutter was back. I am no longer going to run the stage 1 tune but and going to get a custom tune done.

But I'm wondering, could the stutter still be there because I did not clean the SSV properly? Was I supposed to dissasemble anything when I cleaned the SSV? Because all I did was spray the valve with carb cleaner and wiped it clean, the did the same for the housing.

Is there possibly anything else that it could be that I have overlooked?

Buying a 2006 Evolution - advice, please?

Hey guys,

So after a few months of researching rx8club's wonderful stickies, guides, and DIY's and refraining myself from buying sketchy sub $5k 04's, I've saved up some more cash and am seriously considering buying this 2006 Evolve:

http://ift.tt/1IaqVwI

77k Miles, asking $9,600.

So far the car looks great, the owner said he has maintenance records, original engine, and timely oil changes. If the compression numbers are good and doesn't have weird cranking or hot start problems I'm very interested in buying.

Here are my questions:

1) I definitely need to negotiate the price, $9,600 seems unrealistic. Any suggestions on a fair price to offer? So far I'm just going off KBB values ($7-7.5k), but I'm not sure how close KBB is specifically for actual RX8 private party sales.

2) I'm confused about how to price the Evolution model, from my understanding its the UK version of the US Shinka edition with an appearance package minus the beige interior. Should it be marked up similarly to a Shinka? (~$8k spec'd on KBB). I'm checking the VIN to see if it was imported.

Thanks, and I'm looking forward to hearing from you all!

Resurrecting my 8

So I got my rx8 4 years ago but lost my license 3 years ago. Then my go burnt out the clutch 6 months later. I was doing good starting the motor every couple of week to keep it lubed. Accidently flooded and cold never get it to stay again. Had to move a couple of times and the car ended up in storage on a farm. I finally got it back and was going to start with a new fuel pump, plugs , and fresh oil. Found worse case scenario when I pulled the plugs. There is a layer of surface rust inside and sludgepiled up at the bottom of the rotors between the two spark plugs. So my question is the best way to clean this out. I'm sure I'll have to rebuild this motor soon but am curious how tough this motor can be. I was thinking of spraying oil in and cranking with plugs out and fuel fuse pulled.

Help with ground cable replacement

I recently posted about Mazda telling me my RX8 needs an engine. Well, still not believing it I have continued to try to get the car running. I have upgraded the starter and installed an Optima battery yet the car still turns over slowly. In the process of trying to figure out why I found this:
Click the image to open in full size.

Could that be my problem? If so, anyone know where the other ends of the cables are so I can replace it? BTW, its an 04 Automatic, and the engine only has 37,000 miles.

Looking for a one car garage in Queens or Nassau County LI. May consider Brooklyn.

As title states.

I only have a driveway and I don't like to have my RX-8 sitting in the elements. I work in Manhattan now and I don't need to drive. That means don't have the opportunity to drive my RX-8 any more. Looking for a safe and secured storage that I can access once in a while.

{ FS } Two 2009 Stock 19" Rims

I have two OEM Mazda 2009 RX8 rims for sale. These are the stock ones that came on the car. I'm hoping to get $150 a piece for them, $300 total. There is nothing wrong with them. I used to have a RX8, put new rims on it and never got around to getting rid of the old rims. I only have two available... don't ask where the other two are. They are probably buried some where in the abyss of my mother's garage back in Virginia.

I'm hoping some one out there has a need for two of these rims. They are taking up space and need them gone. I will post pics tonight when I get home. There is nothing wrong with them and they had very little use, I'd say less than 3000 miles if that. I took them off my RX8 soon after I first bought it. No curb rash, no rubber, but include TPMS sensors.

I am willing to ship and split them up in case anyone needs just one. Please PM your location and I'll get a shipping estimate.

I know my post count is low and everything is outdated, but I did several successful sales on this forum when I was active and am now an active member of my new car forum (tacomaworld.com). I'm just back on here trying to off load the rims.

Disclosure 1: front bumper has wear and tear from highway debris encountered + 3 other barely visible scuffs, all made and touched up by the 1st owner, and on wheel has slight scuffs.

Disclosure 2: Rear bumper has a small mark that was noticed a few months ago after parking in a public place during an outing. The entire rear bumper is clean / damage free, so this mark was likely caused by a passer by or someone trying to park close and not paying attention to my parked car.

Disclosure 3: Vehicle is currently equipped with external front and rear laser jammer sensors + cabin radar detector for police awareness because speeds in this car climb up quick. It doesn't always feel like the vehicle is moving above the speed limit. These items will not be included with the car, and will be removed before delivery. This is being disclosed now because the car is rarely but still somewhat used (20-50 miles per week at most), and if you happen to request a showing, these items will remain the car until the car it is sold and delivered.

Recent maintenance:

Just replaced Spark plugs, wires, coils and rear O2 sensors 300 or 400 miles ago. New battery installed 100 miles ago. Oil change performed about 1000 miles ago at Classic Mazda, window sticker says next oil change is due at 60,000 miles.

Recent full circle inspection (done at 56k miles) indicates:

⁃ Windshield washer fluid - OK
⁃ Brake fluid - OK
⁃ Coolant recovery reservoir - OK
⁃ Transaxle, transfer case, clutch reservoir - OK
⁃ Engine oil - OK
⁃ Windshield condition - OK
⁃ Wipers - OK
⁃ Horn, interior and exterior lights
⁃ Cooling system - OK
⁃ No engine, exhaust, fluid leaks - OK
⁃ CV axles - OK
⁃ Exhaust system - OK
⁃ Drive Belts - OK
⁃ Sterring linkage / gearings - OK
⁃ Suspension - OK
⁃ Brake lines, hoses, parking brake - OK
⁃ Clutch operation - OK
⁃ Tires - OK (Current thread: 5/32)
⁃ Brake pads / linings - OK
⁃ No check engine lights - OK

The car is performing 100%, has full power, and does not need anything. There are no hot / cold start cranking issues or loss of power, never flooded, never had anything done other than oil changes, air filters, tune ups, and inspection services, therefore a compression test has not been ordered.

The Mazda dealer who maintains my car has never suggested I needed to get one done during servicing anytime they've had the car under their care because the car run flawlessly, cranks up fine, and has all its power. If you require a compression test to be done, I'm happy to order one and split the cost with you.

Here is a link to a brief walk around of the car, with the engine cranking up + revs and engine warm up.

They look like the stock seats, but the leather I have yet to locate in other pictures.

Any ideas?

mardi 28 juillet 2015

Hey guys, I seen a video on YouTube the other day on a guy making a custom front spltter from a piece of aluminum sheet metal and I was wondering if anybody had seen anything like this done for an Rx8 specifically an R3?

I didnt do much searching and I've seen a guy with a white R3 with one on PurelyRx8 Facebook page in a couple pictures but could never get an answer from him!

August 16th Sunday - Touge.ca Cayuga TMP track event 5-9pm! #14 of 20+ Events

August 16th Sunday@ Cayuga 5:00pm - 9:00pm! 2015 Touge.ca #14 track event

Hello all drivers,

We're starting to build a drivers list for the Cayuga track event signup on the August 16th
We have the track on Sunday from 5:00pm - 9:00pm

A little background -

Cayuga Toronto Motorsports Park. Located in Cayuga, just south of Hamilton, Ontario, this developing Motorsport complex can be configured as two smaller circuits of 1.2 and 1.8 km each or one large 3 km road course. We will use the 3 km circuit. The paved surface is a safe, flat design with good run-off room (no barriers or guardrails) and excellent sight-lines. The course has ample straights, challenging large and small chicanes, tight 90 degree and sweeping high speed turns. A truly good technical course.

Getting hard to get into gears

In stop and go traffic, and as it heats up, the car has issues getting into gears.

My clutch pedal has always squeaked. Half the travel of my clutch pedal does nothing, and the second half of the travel is when I feel resistance. The engagement point is pretty much half of that which is 1/4 to the ground in total.

It seems I should bleed the clutch to see how it goes first. Then move on to check if it is the slave or the master cylinder. Any other advice? I will also inspect the clutch bracket.

Sun visor replacement

My RX8s sun visors are coming apart and honestly look ugly, and I don't want to spend 50-100 dollars on a pair of used ones.

My question is, does anyone know of any other Mazda cars sun visor that will also fit an 04 rx8. I've found some very similar ones but I want some input from the forum before I buy them.

I've been looking on ebay and the Mazda 3s look very similar. They cost $25 for a new set of 2, compared to $50 for a used rx8 set of 1.

Thank you!

Rebuilt Engine Installed, Won't Start

Bought a remanufactured engine from a shop with a good rep (not in Washington). Took a lot of work for my guy to get it and the new RB headers in, and it won't start. I had an LS2 ignition system in there and he wasn't seeing spark so we switched back to a factory coil system. Now we get spark, and fuel, and it cranks like a bat out of hell and compression seems good....but it won't fire. He deflooded it just in case and all we get is some burning of oil coming out of the exhaust.

I think he checked the ECC, but other that that, is there something we're missing? I've been driving a rental for WAY too long now.

Messed up Interior Electrics - Help

So my passenger side sun visor broke a bit and has been hanging down from mount, so I tried to remove the wires from the visor (the red and black ones that control the little light near the mirror). I got the black one out perfectly fine but the had some issues getting the red one off and it broke.

When it broke, my radio immediately went off and the only thing on my head unit that works is my ac. Additionally, none of the interior lights work, my door locks do not work, and my cobb accessport is unresponsive when I plug it into the OBD port.

I'm guessing I just blew a fuse when I snapped the wire but I can't figure out which fuse would have blown because those are all on different fuses. My power side view mirrors still work.

Could it have been like a master fuse or something of the sort?

Thanks

Bodyshop/Mechanic in LA 626

I'm looking for a recommend bodyshop/mechanic for my 8 in the LA area for some minor body work, removing door dings/shopping cart dents and door panel plastic clip replacements... easy DIY stuff. My 8 is about 8 years old, looking to update/restore it back to new. Let me know. Thanks!

Ouch! Had my first...

... bumper bender after 20 years of driving. Worse yet, I backed into a parked car at about 5 miles an hour. No big deal I thought...

Evaluating the 8 and found multiple scratches on the rear bumper cover. But, then I found a crack on the top of the rear bumper cover near the trunk. Really?! A low speed bump cracked the bumper?

Anyway, now I am looking for a Velocity Red rear bumper cover. Any suggestions? I found Parts Geek. Anyone use them for body parts before? Where would you point me to get a good OEM rear bumper cover?

LED Headlights- Resistors?

Anyone else have issues with switching to LEDs for the highbeams?
I installed a set of H11/H9 from OPT7 and I'm getting some cross feed from the fog lights. With the low beams on and the fog lights switched on the LED high beams will dimly illuminate. If I put the stock halogen bulbs in I don't have any issues and it operates normally.

Looking at the wiring diagram it looks like it's possible that the high beam could be back feeding through the fog light relay coil to ground through the fog light switch. The LEDs are low enough resistance that it's enough for them to dimly illuminate. The halogen bulbs have enough resistance that they don't illuminate. At least that's my theory. I think if I wire a resistor into the LED harness it should fix the problem.

However, the reason I'm asking the question is I've extensively altered my harness for my swap so I wanted to see if anyone else had a similar issue with the stock harness. I'm just hoping I don't have a ground I've overlooked and now I need to spend hours digging back through the harness to find it.

Bose System Woes

So, I bought new speakers to put them in the car. I did not know the rear speakers were such a low resistance until I had installed the new ones. I took them out and put the Bose ones back in... but not before throwing away the original speaker clips :sweatdrop The original connectors that the clips would plug into and VERY small blades. Does anyone know how I could get the wires back in there? I feel like I'm either going to have to figure out which connector point is pos and neg then solder the wires to them or maybe I could try and find another RX-8 in a junk yard and just pull them from there? Are those clips for the rear speakers a common Mazda car part of are they specific to the 8 with a Bose system? Thanks for all your help in advance!

Rear brake pads nubs what are they for

So I was doing my rear brakes. I didn't know the piston should be aligned with the alignment nubs in order to slide in. I went and cut it off. Would this cause an issue? I figured it out before I did it to the other side.

From what I understand those nubs are for the parking brake, to hold the piston in place so the screw mechanism can work holding the piston in place.

So worse case scenario is that the emergency brake don't work when I pull the e brake handle, but that shouldn't be the case because one of the other side has it. Its holding strength might be weaker.

I track the car so the brake balance is very important, I will road test it and do some heavy braking and get the infrared thermometer to get some temp readings to make sure the brakes are getting about the same amount of heat.

Have I lost my mind? Bose system w/o door amps?

I am in the middle of a complete teardown/rebuild of the factory BOSE system. Today I changed out the door speakers to some 6.5 components. I've spent literally hours reading the stickies and FAQ's in this subthread, and to my amazement there were no amps behind the door panels (I do have the amp in the rear powering the 6x9's though). This isn't an issue - I don't care - as I'm running my new speakers off aftermarket amplifiers, but I am just confused as to where my door amp(s) are?

My car is a 2007 model, did something change at some point in time? Are these speakers perhaps run off the amp in the trunk?

Unrelated, drilling and running wires through those molex connectors made me want to kill myself.

Possible Throttle Body issues

Hey guys! My Rx8 has been running super exceptionally since I had the engine replaced with a rebuild and a new clutch and exhaust. However, its now been 7 months of driving fine and now the idle is all screwy. As I drive, the car surges, and when I stop at a light, the RPMs consistently move between 750 and 3k RPMs, and at times it shuts off on idle.

I took it to the Mazda dealer and they said that it may be the throttle body, but they did a function check and reset something and it was supposed to work. I got the car back and after 20 minutes, it did the same thing. They told me to park the car, turn the key to acc and pump the brake until I see the oil pressure build up and then turn it back on. I did this multiple times, and nothing has fixed it. So I guess I have to go back and get a new throttle body. Mazda quoted me at like $800.00.

Any ideas, comments, or suggestions.
