Need some advice for changing heat shield rx8 2010

Hi. I have an rx8 2010. I've had an accident and my converted exploded and heat up the heat shield attached to the body of the car. This made a hole in the shield and then the steel started heating up and then the plastic beside your leg melt down cz the temperature was too high I guess. So now I stopped the car and wanted to replace the heat shield. I realized while taking it out that it goes around the transmission and it's hard to take. Is there any way to change it without taking out the transmission? Any ideas ? Thank you
