new rebuild problem diagnosis help

lundi 28 avril 2014

This isn't really a new member forum appropriate post, but seeing as I have no choice due to my post count, here goes.

I've been rebuilding my rx8 series 1 car for the past 6 months in my spare time and have pretty much finished, apart from being able to get it started! I would really appreciate some constructive help on how to fix/diagnose what my problem is. I've mostly been using the UK owners site for help over this process but the ideas have dried up so I thought I would try here.

The Rebuild includes brand new housings, full atkins rebuild kit including bearings, new D585 coils (earthed them under the airbox tray), new magnecor leads and spark plugs and sohn adapter.

I can't get the car started on the starter motor which is spinning at 280rpm, I've tried adding 2 stroke oil in to the chambers too. The car will tow start, but won't idle. It will stall if I take my foot off the accelerator. If I keep my foot on the accelerator, it will really struggle to move the car in 1st gear. I can only get it crawling then it will stall on me. If I just sit there holding the revs, it will cut out after a few minutes.

Over the process of trying to get it started, I've had 2 CELS: P0335 - Crankshaft Position Sensor Circuit Malfunction and P2096 - Target AF feedback system too lean - right bank.

Things I have Checked:

- Fuel injectors plugged in correctly (done this twice now, checked with wiring diagram)

- ECU plugged in securly

- Hoses plugged in correctly

- Cleaned MAF

- Cleaned ES position sensor - did 20 pedal stomp to reset

Here are some videos of starting and poor man compression test:

The low readings concern me - but I have been told the compression should go up once the engine is bedded in? Also told a conventional compression tester might not be entirely accurate for rotarys?
