May will prove to be one of the biggest C&C events ever. The weather is suppose to be ideal and pollen is down so there is no excuse not to bring out the cars this Saturday! The 1st of the month is here again and time for our gathering of Cars and Coffee at the NC music factory! Last month it was refreshing to see such a large turnout and everyone seems to be on their best behavior! I want to take a second to thank both Foreign Cars International for their generous donation that paid for the Sheriff's Deputies (once again) that helped control the crowd and for Peter N. at Automotive International for his generous donation of the signage that reminds us all of the privilege that it is to be guest at the NC Music factory. Also thank you to the NC Music Factory and Mattie's for giving us another chance to show how great this event is and how mature this crowd can be. Without the support we would not have such a grand event. Just to restate the rules for those that may have missed it or those that just need a reminder.
Here are the rules:
-Absolutely no burnouts or horse play in the lot or the roads out front. It is irresponsible and safety is a huge concern for us. This is a one strike rule!. Violators will be asked not to return and the mater will be turned over to the CMPD/Sheriff's Dept.
-The Uptown division of the Mecklenburg police department is well aware of our event and will patrol the area. Speeding and unlawful behavior will not be tolerated on the public road out front or on the NC Music Factory's property. 911 will be called if antics prevail and the CMPD will respond!
-No vendors will be allowed to set up tables, booths or tents. As before you can hand out fliers if you wish but no signage or structures allowed.
-Trailers, box trucks and haulers will be asked to use lot #2 for parking, spaces are at a premium and these vehicles take up too much space and maneuvering them around is too high a risk for accidents.
-We need to leave the facilities better than we find them on each visit. NC Music Factory is letting us use this facility free of charge so we need to respect it, there are trash cans throughout the property please do please do not litter.
-Parking nearest to the Diner is reserved for regular restaurant patrons. We have the other 662 spaces!
Changes:
-there will be uniformed officers stationed at two points on the property, with one being in the turn lane of the frontage road. We hope this will deter any burnouts, rapid rates of speed and general idiotic moves leaving the parking lot.
-We are asking the bystanders that stand in front of the dinner to disperse, if those leaving don't have an audience of on lookers and video cameras it will greatly decrease the incidents that are possible. There is plenty of room in the parking look to take pictures and see the cars up close.
-Removing the on lookers at the entrance also will reduce the chances of anyone getting hurt by a vehicle that looses control.
The T-Shirts are still not ready. The concept and art work was not quite right we want to take another stab at it to get it right.
***We will be selling a Charlotte Area Cars and Coffee T-Shirt with all the proceeds going to pay the fees for the deputies that will be on duty at each event as well as additional signage needed. I think instead of taking donations a T-Shirt that we can create and sell to generate funds to have the event be self-sufficient is best. We hope to have these ready for the 1st event but it may be the 3rd event.
Hope to see you Saturday and thank you for helping this event I stay safe and in place for years to come!
See you Saturday!
Michael
Which color accentuates the RX8's personality best?
I sold my black rx8 a year ago and man do I regret it. That car has my heart so I'm looking across the country for a perfect one for my taste.
I love how sinister and beautiful the black looks (although I was washing the car 3 times a week) I called her the black gem.
White seems to grab the curves a bit better and I personally like the pearl white on black rims look. However it seems a bit misleading for what the car stands for. It's a bit. Plain.
Red is sporty and flashy. I do like red.
silver is nice and classy with a good set of rims. Gives the curves justice.
Blue has character, although it's not my style.
Anyways what are your guys thoughts. Not just "whats your favorite color' but what color actually captures the beauty, and personality in the car? I'm leaning on menacing black.

Weird Noise
So lets get to it,
I just recently started driving My 8 again (winter beauty sleep)
and this funky noise would come on at random times, But it seems like it's happening a lot more often then when it first started.
I'm not sure what the deal is, there wasn't anything like this last year.
2004 Rx8 Standard ~75k miles, I'm the second owner I've had it since late 2005
mods:
ACT Pro-Lite Flywheel
Exedy Stage 1 Clutch
RP Supercat Mid Pipe
I've searched around but I didn't seem to find anyone that had the same problem.
The noise comes on when i First start the car and last about 30sec to a minute
and later on comes at random, sometimes its loud sometimes its faint.
It seems to be coming from around the armrest/shifter area, maybe glove compartment.
I have a huge hole in my shift boot and noticed last year that I can hear a bit more noise from whats going on under, but it was never this bad.
This is what it sounds like when I first start the car... whiiiiiizzz whiiizzzz.. JK
here's the video
and here it is while driving.
thanks in advance.

Hanging piston
I was looking and I think the hanging piston on the rear from the tow hook looks cool, and no flaming please, just wondering what pistons people use for these? Mainly just looking at size.

Broken under panel
So I was driving to my college today, and when the road became a bit uneven (Newer paved roads) I began to hear a scraping/screeching sound coming from the area around my left tire. After going home and hearing it again, I looked around and found that a panel under my bumper, directly in front of my left wheel is broken and was what was scraping the road, anyone know what part this is so I can replace it?
30.000 km OEM-B-coils with heatprotection..
Inspected my 30k km B-coils (changed the OEM ones for OEM-B-type at 10k km; odometer total 40k km.) equipped with protection against heat from the engine; protection made from 2x2mm layer ceramic tape 8 inch wide.
Bottom looked as new!
Decided to apply an extra double layer, total thickness 8mm; compressed 6 mm.

some difficulty shifting
Hello every body My 05 6spd and i have been through alot, 11 months ago i changed the clutch machined the fly wheel and the whole 9 yards. Everything has been good for a while but as of recently ive noticed an issue shifting 6th wont engauge all the way unless i either shift from 4th or rev up to 6th coming from 5th, and 5th is unaccessable from 6th (down shifting). would an adjustment at the clutch pedal help this or am i looking at possibly other bigger issues?
Thanks

{ FS } 2005 MT Titanium Gray
Asking $6500.
150k miles, original motor that runs beautifully.
Stored in garage during winter months, (typically November-March) but started regularly to circulate oil through the engine.
No issues starting either hot or cold.
Meticulously maintained with oil changes every 3k, (Castrol GTX 5W30 every time,) plugs every 30k, transmission and differential every 30k (redline fluid in transmission, royal purple in diff,) brake fluid every 2 years, coolant every year.
Coils within last 10k, Magnecore wires.
The car has the spoiler and front air dam from the appearance package. I have the side aero flares and rear aero flares but have not yet put them on. They are included in sale. No rust.
Black/Gray cloth interior in very good shape.
Upgrades:
Exedy Stage 1 clutch
Slotted rotors, ceramic pads, braided stainless brake lines. Pads have about 40% life in them, rotors in decent shape.
Racing Beat springs and sway bars, MazdaSpeed shocks
Enkei Imola 18" wheels w/ 245/40 Goodyear Eagle F1 tires, (less than 8k miles on them)
New battery
K&N drop in air filter
BHR ignition included in sale but not installed. Two coils failed and I have not contacted them yet for replacement.
Issues:
Normal rock chips on front bumper and some small rock dings on body.
Dent in rocker panel that would be covered by side aero flare when installed.
Shift boot has some small cracks in the leather.
Passenger side wheels have some light kerbing in a couple of spots.
Overall the car runs beautifully, pulls like new and handles better than stock with no body roll. It has a few cosmetic issues but nothing out of the ordinary for a nine year old car. 150k miles sounds like a lot, but I've had RX-7s in the past, ('85 FB and '87 FC) and got over 250k miles on both of them with original engines with nothing more than proper maintenance. This one will do the same, as long as maintenance routines are kept up. Pictures are available, just PM me and I'll e-mail them.

{WTB} WWP front bumper - any type
Looking for a white water pearl bumper. Got into a fender bender (idiot me) and got a nasty crack on my MS bumper. Looking to replace it with a used bumper, because my car's low enough that it's not worth getting a new one. I'm pretty open to any type of bumper as long as it doesn't have a big crack like mine. Let me know if you got one and what you'd want for it (or if you want me to offer).
If you got an unpainted bumper you want to sell, feel free to let me know too. Just want to get my car looking normal again :(
Thanks,
Jin

rx8 or s2000
Hello all, my name is sniperwolf and I'm new to this forum. I've been in deep thought for some time now and was wondering if I could get some help. I currently drive an 06 altima 2.5 and I long for an amazing rwd car. I find myself mainly coming back to the s2000 and rx8. I have reached the verdict that these cars are definitely something worth owning though the situations differ for me from normal cases. In buying the 8 it would be a secondary car(me keeping the altima) and probably an 04 or 05. However the s2000 would be a dd(getting rid of the altima) as well as probably being the ap1 over ap2. Both cars will be kept at least a length of 5 years(maybe longer if they give me no issues), and shall remain stock(or at least as stock as they come bought). I like both of these cars, can't figure out which one I really will love. So the main questions I guess would be: What's the rx8 like as a daily or weekend car? Does it ever get tiring? Which deal would be better, the second car or swapping the primary? And lastly any experience with these cars, whether owned or just driven a cool minute would be greatly appreciated I love opinions. Haha. Also I live in southeast Texas so any relations of winter problems don't tend to apply but cooling problems for the summer can be bad. Slight negative on the rx8. Anyways, any info would be greatly appreciated. I've spent a little time passenger in an 8 and remember enjoying it. Thank you all for your time, sorry for such a long question! Glad to be here!

Finder Liner fitment question
Anyone know if this will also fit a 2005? It's listed as 2009 and above, but when I compared pictures of it to what I had on my car they look identical. Anyone know a hard answer on it? I looked over some repair manuals for parts and cant actually find this part number as a valid replacement for an RX-8.

Learnings from installing an AppRadio 3 with PAC RP4-MZ11 on a S2
So, I just finished my AppRadio install using the PAC RP4-MZ11, a path less taken around here. I know the preferred harness is the AXXESS.
First, the harness...
Pac-Audio.com Product Details | iPod Integration for your car and More by Pac-Audio - Connecting you to the future
This is a great harness. Why? It requires no cutting into your stock harness to get your steering wheel controls working.
If you're installing a stereo without a touchscreen / apps, then there is no need for taps at all. All you will do is connect your headunit harness to the PAC harness, and you'll be all done.
If you're installing a stereo with a touchscreen, but no navigation, you'll have to tap into your parking brake line. (or install a switch)
If you're installing a unit with navigation you'll have to take apart most of the center dash in order to place your GPS antenna in front of your center speaker. Sorry, I don't know where to tap the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS), mine didn't have that wire. It's also not required.
If you're installing a backup camera, you'll have to run wire from the back of your car to the front. I chose to follow the SIRIUS route detailed below. You'll have to run two wires, one for the reverse signal, and one for the camera video out. Also, feel free to tap into your reverse light for the reverse signal and as a power source for your rear view camera. It work like a charm for me.
http:\\http://ift.tt/1hPeb4U
If you have a BOSE stereo, make sure to use the RCA pre-outs instead of the wires in the headunit harness. If you use the wires in the headunit harness, you will effectively double amp your source. This leads to lots of static at low volumes and a very wonky/loud stereo. Another workaround is to use a scosche line level adjustment, but what a pain. Just cut up some RCAs, and wire them to the vehicle harness.
If you have SIRIUS, I feel bad for you son, you got 99 problems, and they are all related to removing the SIRIUS system. Removing that system was the most annoying thing ever. It is routed from the trunk all the way to the front with half a million zip ties, and you'll have to disassemble half of your car to get to all of them. No joke, the wiring was something like 20 feet long.
The steering wheel controls were a little finicky. You must reprogram them to control your headunit properly. Mine kept thinking that I was pressing the phone menu when I was touching anything. Once I completed the headunit specific programming, it was fine.
The worst part was the removal of the SIRIUS add on, if you don't have that, be thankful.

Is it normal for an RX-8 to NOT burn any oil? If not, WTF might be wrong?
Now I've had my car since Mar 09', and have had like 3 engines replaced now. All of them lasted around 10k miles and 18 months. 2 of them were replaced by warranty, and this new one that I got was built by Pettit.
The thing that suddenly hit me today though was I seldom had to oil. I can count by my fingers for the number of times that I actually needed to add oil. I check my oil level regularly. So wtf? I thought we were supposed to burn some oil.
What could be wrong with the car? Could it be down to driving habits? I used to drive all city and short trips. Recently since I've moved, I started putting some hwy miles on it.

my car sound so rubbish...
Hi
I am pretty new here but I and was wondering if anyone has come across this sound:
It sound really rough, it runs fine and just passed the mot.
The car revs and goes like hell but the noise it makes is terrible. There are no exhaust leaks and the cat is in good order.
It is hard to tell if it is exhaust or inlet noise, it is coming from the manifold area.
The cars doesn't drive any different.
Even so, could this be bad coil or plug? would just one leading or trailing plug not firing cause this.
Thanks
Antony

Some help? (compression test, misfires, cat)
Ok, My 8 has been acting weird lately. It misfires (hot start only). So i took it to T&R Racing. (i don't hear good things about them on this site) Well he told me..
1. He did a compression test with a regular compression tester and he said the engine was fine.
2. My CAT is clogged. Thats why i was getting hot start problems. (continues to recommend i get one from the dealer) which is not happening.
3. Decarb it
3. And i should get my plugs, wires and coils replaces.
Now heres the swing to it. i took it to Garden City Mazda to get a compression test done on it. and i was told that they don't have the original guy doing it anymore its a new guy. and he told me my engine was gone and gave me readings so low that my car should not be able to even start cold. but it does. So I'm a little concerned in wondering who is lieing and who isn't. Mazda did tell me my coils where worn and i should get that done also. Anyone know anyone trust worthy Shop i can take my 8 to in New york
1. He did a compression test with a regular compression tester and he said the engine was fine.
2. My CAT is clogged. Thats why i was getting hot start problems. (continues to recommend i get one from the dealer) which is not happening.

Fuel for 350whp
I'm new to the Rx8 as a whole, but not Rx7's. After reading endless pages on the Rx8 fuel system, I am unsure if it's a safe bet to go for 350whp without doing a return style fuel system. But, I do not want to do so in this car.
So, who here is making 350whp on the returnless fuel system? What pump are you using? Did you melt the pop off valve on the stock assembly?
I am going to use blue 480cc ("claimed") injectors in all 6 locations. At the correct fuel pressure of 58psi, what are the actual flow numbers of the blue injectors? I only seem to find flow rates for the yellows.
If you are making this kind of power on a similar set up, besides a pump and injectors, what other fuel upgrades did you do, if any?

New guy
How yall doin?
I just wanted to introduce myself as I will be moving up to the Sub base from Tampa Fl. next week. So here goes......
My name is Sean and I have been in the navy for 17 years. I have 3 kids (one of which is a car-tard like me). I have owned a number of japanese sports cars but the 8 is something special. I have lived all up and down the east coast and have never been further west than upstate New York. I am addicted to energy drinks and have recently quit smoking (since I have decatted the 8 it has recently started smoking a little) That's it. Can't wait to meet you NW peeps and I look foreward to some mountain runs.

Shop and Dealership Recommendations anywhere near Philadelphia, PA?
As my new (to me) RX-8 is still in warranty, I'm looking for a good dealership service department anywhere near Philadelphia, PA. Preferably somewhere that isn't hostile to the idea of DIY oil changes.
I'm also looking for a good indie shop, just as a matter of course. If nothing else, I want tire balancing and alignments done right.
Got a few thoughts on each, but wanted to hear from the community first. Anyone have any recommendations?

My car is blowing white smoke!!!
So forgive my non mechanically incline mind, but I am not sure what to do with my car. I bought an 04 rx8 about six months ago with rougly 65,000 miles on it. It ran great and I didn't have any serious issues until recently. It started having difficulty firing up and it was difficult to keep running at low rpms. The CEL starting flashing, so I ordered new plugs, wires, and coils. I limped my car to Walmart to buy some locktite for the spark plugs, and I noticed a large amount of white smoke billowing out from the engine, and from underneath the car. I immediately turned off the car and pushed it into a parking space. Now the car won't even start. A mechanic buddy of mine told me it smelled like it was burning collant. I guess my biggest concern is that the engine is toast. I am no mechanic, but unfortunately I am a very long ways from a rotary mechanic. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Zero throttle, rolling in gear: what happens?
As far as I know, all modern cars shut off the fuel injectors when you let off the gas but stay in gear (i.e. on the overrun), until the RPMs get below a certain point (e.g. 1500 RPM).
What does the S2 RX-8 do? Does it shut off the fuel injectors, too? If it's not burning fuel, what happens to the oil that gets injected? Does it just accumulate and/or get blown out the exhaust? If that's the case, does that mean I should keep engine braking to a minimum for the sake of the catalytic converter?
I never downshift for the sole purpose of slowing down, but I will sometimes let off the gas way early and engine brake if I know I'm going to have to slow down ahead, especially while going down a hill. Just wondering if I should change that habit.

Steering feel w/ different offsets
Has anyone noticed a difference in steering feel with different offsets in the front? A lot of the wheel options for this car are +45, which is 2mm off -- looks tiny, but I have heard that kind of difference touted as a significant change in vehicle suspensions.
Push to Start, etc.
Hello all,
I am a new member to the RX8 Club, but I really want to start doing some mods and upgrades for my car! Right now, I really want to get a push to start system. What would be the best system to get?

Question about air dam.
I hit a headlight on the interstate and it pretty much destroyed my air dam, followed quickly by ripping out part of the splash guard, which in turn pulled the drivers side splash guard into the wheel. Needless to say I'm doing some repairs. I've found all the splash guards, but in looking at the air dam I can't seem to find the OEM air dam. I think the part number is F151-51-9K1A. However, when surfing ebay I keep finding this part number, F151-V4-900F-64, such as here: EBAY Listing
I guess my question is this, how does that ebay part fit in comparison to the OEM? It looks like that part has some sort of sides that the OEM does not. I'm not sure if I can just remove the broken one and replace it with that one from EBAY or not. Anyone know? Does it just sit lower and that's what the side flairs are?

Replacement SS Greddy turbo manifold option.
PFABRICATIONS.COM has said if they can get a Greddy manifold from someone they can make a jig to produce a replacement out of SS, like the one they make for the S2000. Mine has not cracked yet so its still mounted. But if anyone has one they can let them use temporarily it would help out the Greddy turbo community. They can even make it with a different flange so we can have more turbo options.

Bad Guy: ThatNewGuy
So i paid this guy 2 weeks ago for a xenon headlight and the lower rubber shift boot. I asked him multiple times through PM for the tracking info and received no replies. He has been on the site numerous times after the PM's and ignored them of course.
Not worried about the money as ill get it back from Paypal even though i have to wait X amount of days for him to reply to them (good luck)

I am not the only one who got burned by this guy either.

May 11th Sunday - Touge.ca Cayuga TMP track event 5-9pm! #3 of 20+ Events!
May 11th Sunday@ Cayuga 5:00pm - 9:00pm! 2014 Touge.ca#3 track event - 20+ Events on a flexible schedule to fit your busy life -
Hello all drivers,
We're starting to build a drivers list for the Cayuga track event signup on the May 11th
We have the track on Sunday from 5:00pm - 9:00pm
A little background -
Cayuga Toronto Motorsports Park. Located in Cayuga, just south of Hamilton, Ontario, this developing Motorsport complex can be configured as two smaller circuits of 1.2 and 1.8 km each or one large 3 km road course. We will use the 3 km circuit. The paved surface is a safe, flat design with good run-off room (no barriers or guardrails) and excellent sight-lines. The course has ample straights, challenging large and small chicanes, tight 90 degree and sweeping high speed turns. A truly good technical course.
It is a great learning track with two long straights, 11 challenging turns, safe run-off everywhere, and a separate area for exercises.
We usually have a briefing prior to getting out on the track, followed by a few warm up laps, then lapping for the rest of the day. "Lapping" refers to just that, doing laps. For beginners group, Passing is STRICTLY prohibited except on the back straight, and only when the person in front of you has allowed you by by signaling you to pass. We reserve all rights to kick people off the track that are driving dangerously and/or aren't listening to track marshalls.
All those interested in attending this track day on May 11th.
