Hi everyone, Ive read through a few posts...some where helpful. Based upon a few suggestions, Ive replaced the (4) coils, (4) wires, (4)plugs with all new parts...pretty easy work really.

Experiencing Same Problem EVEN AFTER said new parts installed:

The 8 starts fine: Not a quick start/not hard start either. Call it a mild start (2-3 second start-up). Some coughing-sputtering out exhaust past couple weeks experience weather temp changes in WI.

No Engine Check Lights before start. No Engine Check Light when driving. The other day, the temp dropped from 50-70F to 28F... in a few hours, no big deal the car does just fine for WI winters...It sat outside for about 3 hours in 28F (its used to being garaged 50F). But it started right up, it warmed up, and then I casually drove it home.

Drove home 19-24 miles on country roads, a few stop-and-go lights 35-50mph max with No Engine Check Lights present. I could come to a good stop, yet once ready to gradually accelerate, the rpms revved up normally, but the revs needed to stay higher- longer for it to physically increase its speed. As if it had some power/acceleration lag.

Curious, because its 6-speed manual, I question the clutch slipping/not fully release/engage motor to convert power?
- something not fully engaging the rotary power?
- Is there a Clutch Adjustment perhaps I should check?
- what else would cause this when Ive replaced coils, wires, and plugs?

Please HELP.
I was thinking possibly the trans fluid is low(?) - low compression?

Honestly, I have not had anything major/mechanical/ELE go wrong with this 2007 RX8, and have driven it from about 52K miles to 84k without any issues (2.5-3 years).

What else could it be that's causing this lag/lack of acceleration when there's no Engine Check Light present?

Destroyed Spark Plugs... WTF!

So I was getting random intermittent pops and backfires, and even though my plugs had just been replaced when I installed a full BHR ignition kit about 10k miles ago (barely a year now), they are often the first culprit and easy/cheap to replace. Upon replacing the plugs, which should have been fine, I found them rather heavily fouled. Additionally, upon removing the rear Leading plug, the tip came loose and the whole central core came out, looking like it had been burned, corroded, and half-melted, as per the attached pic... Obviously the car is running much smoother now with brand new plugs, but what could have caused this kind of severe damage in barely 10k miles? Anyone seen this before?

I bought my 04 rx8 in September at around 96k miles and since then I've put about 1500 miles on it and it ran well with the only problem being the awful warm starts so many people seem to suffer from. I didn't think anything of it. I assumed it was my ignition coils so I changed those(didn't help) and had plans on replacing the spark plugs shortly after. But I turned my car on after 2 days of no driving and my cel started blinking and then my rpm dropped all the way to 0 and it hasn't started since. My mechanic said there was no compression whatsoever and I'll need a rebuild or a new engine. Does anyone know where to get this done for a decent price. I'm trying not to dump more than 3-4k on this.

power loss at cruise speeds

Have been working with a shop here who keep having medium mileage rx8s coming in with this same issue . He has been fixing it by premixing at 100:1 but came to me to look at a better solution. I noticed that one cell in particular looks very low (3000rpm at 38% load).
But even those around it which correspond to cruise loads/rpm seem too low - note the highlighted cells:



Am working on a map that addresses this without increasing oil consumption drastically . Will post it up once we have a confirmed cure to the issue.

Air Filter

Is an aftermarket air filter worth it? I am thinking of putting a K&N air filter in the the airbox; nothing fancy like a cold air intake, just replacing the factory filter.
