I've actually had an account since 2006, but I apparently never posted enough to be able to post anywhere else so I'm posting here so I post somewhere else!

I have a 2004 I've had for 10 years that was recently diagnosed with low compression after a bad flooding, so now I get to try to figure out what to do with it. Besides dying, I've loved the car, and it's otherwise in great shape, so it seems a shame to dump it or scrap it.

After reading up on compression issues around the site, I suspect it's had low compression for at least 6 years, but now I don't trust it, so it sits in the garage making me sad :(

The tech at the local Mazda dealer said he didn't think rebuilding it would be a great idea, and he quoted me something like $6,000 to put in a new engine. Given that KBB says it's only worth $3-4k or so, it's hard wanting to put that kind of money into it.
