{ FS } Polished AEM Cold Air intake

New from Seattle

Hey new 8 owner here from Seattle. Loved these cars since 2005 (I was 15), specially the look. I drove one and thought it wasn't so powerful but it handled great.

I've been in the Supra community for 8 years and my car has come a long way in these years. NA auto to s366 single turbo and 6sp. She's my pride and joy and also is a gold digger. My daily is a 01 Impreza coupe. Nothing other than exhaust and intake on that one. The fun snow tank, you know.

Anyway, I finally got myself a 04 6sp. Grey exterior and full black interior. The guy before put every carbon fiber bit possible in the interior I swear. My plan is to make it a track car, but don't ban me, I'm not keeping the rotary. I won't tell what the engine will be because it's a secret till it comes out to play. Even though the supra comes first, the 8 will be done real soon.

Thanks for your time

Air intake indentification

I just purchased an 09 RX8. It came with a cold air intake but it has no name on it so I have no idea who the manufacturer is. Can anyone help me identify the manufacturer from the picture? Thanks!

Won't start, please help

Hey guys, not really a new member, been on here lurking about 2 years since I got my 8, but I did a real dumb thing. I was cleaning my car and had the stereo on. Killed it. Got somebody to help me jump it. Started up no problem. DSC light was flashing and traction control car was on. I turned the wheel all the way left and right and DSC went off, but I was scared to turn it off to reset the traction control light because the battery had just been almost dead. I drove to my friends apartment, 15-20 minutes, figured that would be long enough for it to charge.

I wanted to reset the traction control light before I went in, but now the car won't start. The wheel feels almost locked up, but I can put in the key and turn it. Car cranks but won't turn over. Guage cluster works, stereo works, windshield wipers work. With the key in and on the on position, the current lights are on are "traction control, battery, headlights, ABI, in the center the steering wheel with an ! Is on, and on the right, dsc is blinking, engine light and seat belt"

Pretty please help me.

Help TOB or bent FORK? ( WITH VIDEO)

Guys I'm out of answers, the clutch is less than a year old. Before replacing it the noise was the same so I thought Ok TOB is bad. Replaced it and noise came back. Went to rotary guy he said TOB is bad and it was worn out but not the clutch so he put in a new TOB. The noise is back.. he didn't see anything else wrong, does this sound like a bad release Fork that's binding the TOB??

Here's a video

{ FS } 2004 Mazda RX8 - 6000 MILES NEW ENGINE

Selling my 2004 Mazda RX8.

Recently had a brand new motor (not refurbished) put in about 6000 miles ago along with an Exedy stage 2 clutch. Always changed oil every 2500 miles and always premixed when getting gas.

Exterior:
All panels match, a few dings here and there but barely noticeable until you're close up to the car. Small spots where paint is peeling, shown in the pictures. Small crack on the bottom part of the front bumper. Right tail light has the normal condensation in humid conditiions.

Interior:
Interior is in near perfect condition. Leather/heated seats. All power locks/windows work as they should. Driver seat power seat is missing the button cover for the switches but they all still work. Aftermarket radio head unit. Bose sound system.

Engine:
The motor is all stock with 6000 miles straight from Mazda. I have all paperwork that comes with. OBX catback exhaust. Not raspy at all, sounds very smooth. Exedy Stage 2 clutch installed with new motor. Mint green painted Intake box and fuse box.

Wheels/Tires:
18x8.5 5x114.3 +35 Avid.1 AV20 Bronze wheels on Falken 225/45/18 all around with about 50% tread left. Red lugs all around. Rear passenger side wheel has some curb rash.

The "Bad":
- issue with the gas tank where once the gauges reads past the 1/4 tank mark, fuel will no longer be sent into the motor.
- minor cosmetic issues mentioned above
- CEL thrown from a secondary air pump sensor

Why so hostile against automatics

mardi 29 novembre 2016

Just wanting different opinions. Thought it would be a fun little topic. Plus i am new to rx8s, so besides the obvious that a standard is alot more fun to drive and it has a little more power, why is a mojority of people and owners so against the automatic 8s? I mean they do have there pros and cons.

RX-8 Coils - Shelf life?

I purchased stock coils, thinking I was going to replace them but my shop told me to hold until the existing ones go bad. I'm now carrying $250 worth of parts at home.

Would it be best for me to refund them now and purchase them later or the parts will work just fine as long as they are stored properly?

Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks,

Wheel Widths+Offsets VS Scrub Radius and Response

I am completely new to buying aftermarket rims (wheels, whatever) and tires. I will buy ohlin coilovers and drop the car just enough to get rid of the wheel gap. I will also run stock camber. I do not want stretched tires or any kind of this newfangled nonsense that kids these days are doing. I also do not want to run spacers. I just want my new wheels to sit flush and look good. The VFS1s in 19s (smallest they go) are available in three sizes:

8.5 +32
9.5 +28
10 +48

From what I understand with all this complicatedness, the 9.5 is right out and the 10 is the best fit. I have also gathered that a 265/30 or 275/30 is the best wheel choice. Im thinking 275s sidewall would be more perpandicular to the rim than the 265s.

What are your opinions on a lightly lowered, stock camber, 19X10 +48 with a 275/30?

I do not track the car and these rims are the lightest Vossen makes. I have asked a few members on here their thoughts but id like more input so I dont make a $3k+ mistake, thanks

Just found a nice site that allows for side by comparison of 2 different wheel setups. 1 is stock and 2 are the vossens

With the reading I have been doing, by only changing wheel offset/widths, the scrub radius is changed. Is this what you would call the factor that determines the way the car handles differently? Is a positive srub of 7mm alot or no? I just dont want my car to feel all different. You

Does anyone know if the 2004 year GT model had keyless entry? Was it available at all or was it standard or an option?

Can aftermarket rims cause wheel bearing failure?

I bought my 2007 RX-8 in 2010. I had snow tires mounted on stock rims and ordered a wheel and tire package for summer on line. I got TSW Snetterton wheels in the same size as stock. 2 years ago I needed a left rear wheel bearing. Didn't think much of it as I've had wheel bearings replaced on cars in the past. Then last year the right rear went. Had that repaired. Now, it seems to be making noise again.

Dealer thinks that because the aftermarket rims are offset they are causing more stress on the hubs and causing the wheel bearings to fail prematurely. I've asked 2 different mechanics about this and although they didn't seem sure they felt that the rims should not cause any issues with the bearings.

Has anyone else experienced this? I would appreciate any info.

Thanks in advance

P0171, P2096, car dead, then next day car is fine

TL;DR - Car stalled on the highway, gave codes P0171 and P2096, and refused to start after that. Towed it home, and tow truck driver suggested it could be the fuel pump. He said to hit the gas tank. After a bumpy ride home, the car starts and idles fine. Fuel pump problem?

I've read several posts about P0171 and P2096, but they don't have the symptom of the car dying and refusing to start...

Yesterday evening I was driving on the highway at 75 MPH when all of a sudden I lost all power. I coasted to the shoulder and the engine died. I tried to turn it on, but it wouldn't cooperate. It would try to start, but then it would immediately die.

It gave me codes P0171 (system too lean) and P2096 (post cat fuel trim too lean). I'm assuming 2096 is a side effect of 0171.

Since I couldn't get it started, I had it towed to my house. I was talking with the tow truck driver, and after I explained my symptoms to him, he suggested it might be the fuel pump, especially given the mileage on the car (163.5k miles). I've got no idea if the fuel pump has been replaced before, though the last owner did give me the SST to remove the fuel pump.

The tow truck driver suggested hitting the gas tank with a 4x4 to jar the fuel pump, and if that works, I would know it's the fuel pump. He said he's had success getting a fuel pump to work for a short time after doing that.

Today I went to try and start it up, and it started up just fine. I let it warm up to normal temp, let it run for a few more minutes, then shut it off. I waited 30 seconds, then started it back up. It cranked right up. Idle is smooth, and the CEL is gone. Part of the drive home in the tow truck WAS a bit bumpy. Is the tow truck driver right? Could a good bump have given my fuel pump a little bit of extra life?

If not the fuel pump, any ideas what I should be looking at? I just installed my rebuilt engine 300 miles ago. Given the codes and the fact that it cranks up quickly when warm, I'm hopeful it's nothing in the engine itself.

Mazda 19" wheels...R3 vs Mazda 6

Hi,

Since ive own my 2010 RX8 GT for the past 2 month ive been trying to get OEM 19" wheels...the R3 wheels was always considered but everywhere I looked they are like $400 a piece still.

Now i noticed the newer Mazda 6's has 19" wheels and looked close to the R3's but are like $150 a piece.

But Im trying to look for specs on it i.e weight, offset dimensions but cant seem to find them...

So my question is aside from them coming from different cars are both wheels almost the same in terms of specs?

Upper Intake Manifold will not line up

Hello everyone,

I am having extraordinary difficulty lining up the upper intake manifold, specifically the plastic section which has the throttle body attached,
so I can screw all of the bolts
in properly. The side of the manifold which is nearest to the back of the engine bay seems to be having issues lining up perfectly it seems.

Does anyone have tips on how to realign the manifold. I have taken it off once before and don't remember it being so difficult to reinstall. :banghead:

Help in choosing RX8!

Hello - newbie here looking for opinions - I have a choice of purchasing the following:

#1. 2007 GT Dark Blue 68,000 KMs mint condition but through 3 owners -looks and runs great everything works and checks out fine. I have test driven. Is available now. $9000 CA

#2. 2004 GT Light Blue 24,000 KMs original owner mint condition stored in heated garage etc. Is out of my geographical area (a few hours away by car) but will be available in the Spring when the owner returns from sunny skies! $9500 CA

(I have not done compression test on either of these two, but that would be the logical next step)
But, if it were you, which one would you choose?

Thank's for your input -George.

Broke off transmission wire connectors

Have a 2005 RX8 that I am doing an engine swap on. We managed to get the "new" engine in and are in the process of hooking everything up. Unfortunately, it seems that when we pulled the old engine out the two wires that connect the transmission to the engine wiring harness broke.

I have attached a picture of the wires I am talking about. The connector heads basically came off. One came off the transmission wire, and the other came off the engine wiring harness. Is it possible to reconnect the plug to the wire itself? Or are there any other options?

Thanks for the help!

Has anyone ever used a product like BG EPR to flush their engine? If so, what results did you get? Also are oil additives good for the rotary engine?

New Member Excited to Get Into an 8!

dimanche 27 novembre 2016

Hi guys!

I've lurked for a while here, trying to get as much info as I could before finally realizing that an RX-8 might be the car for me.

I'm a mechanic at a performance shop and extremely amateur track enthusiast and had an RX-8 come in a while ago for some upgrades (Stoptech D&S rotors and Sport/Street pads, Tein Street Basis coilovers, Mishimoto radiator, AIR delete, AC delete, and some maintenance). I really enjoyed driving it. It felt fantastic going into corners and being thrashed (at the owner's request) and the chassis was incredibly responsive, even with such cheap and little upgrades. That car has stuck in my head for a while.

I've been shopping for a G35 coupe for a couple years now until I stumbled upon a Speed Academy article (Infiniti G35 Tuning: How To Bolt On Over 40 Wheel Horsepower | Speed Academy) about a guy tracking his, and I saw he also owned an RX-8 and tracked that as well (http://ift.tt/2fq6Q2m). I got in contact with him and talked with him about the differences he liked between the two and he said in the end preferred the RX-8, so my plans have been shifted to say the least.

I've read through as much as I could here and I'm now on the hunt for a decent S1 that I could turn into a summer daily/weekend track car while I save up some more money. I'm excited to get into the swing of things with one! They seem great to drive, easy to work on, plenty of aftermarket support, and reliability is somewhat there as long as it's taken care of.

Hopefully I'll be joining you guys in ownership soon!

New Member Excited to Get Into an 8!

Finally Rx8 REW Swap

Hi Guys,

I Have been working closely with a local rotary shop for the past 4 years, and
finally decided to buy my own rx8.

I bought an 07 rx8 with out the original engine but I pretty much have the 93 rx7 front clip aside from body panels. trans included.

Not really pressed for time as i have another vehicle, so my plan is to take things slow and do it right the first time.

Will have some parts for sale when i am allowed to post in the classifieds.
