I am revisiting the water pump and housing and I can't use my own since I DD my car.

Third gear is popping out for me. I had 3rd and 4th gear popping out fixed a little over 2 years ago (internal transmission work). I'm hoping the adjustment procedure will fix this issue this time, since it's just third gear; however, if I do need a new transmission, is there a place people here are getting their new Series II transmissions from? I see that Mazdatrix has it for a bit over $2100. The dealer wants $2917 for the hardware.

Hi everyone, new to the triangle engine. Bought a '04 with the engine out of it, but new rebuild. I have the engine in, hooked up, fluids in, it starts, but only runs for a couple seconds. I found this open nozzle above header on passenger side. What is it? How do I hook it up/where does it go to? Thanks :)

New to the triangle engine, bought a '04 with the engine out of it, but I was rebuilt. Put it back in, but have some loose ends. What is this port on the passenger side above the header? Looks like it's wet with fuel. Obviously needs a hose, but where does it go to? Any help is appreciated!

Purchasing a used 2004 Rx8 but has issues

Hello guys, I have always loved Rx8 since I was in high school and recently I was offered one but it has some issues but that doesn't bother me because to me it is a fixed upper and it is the chance to own one of my dream cars. So it is a 2004 with 125,000 miles on it. Now the owner of it said it has been heating uup lately and will shut down and won't turn on until it cools down, any ideas of what that can be? Also it shakes on iddle and it shakes when you start to break to slow down. I want to buy it because the owner doesn't want to mess with it and selling it for 1600 but I am worried there might be more than í can handle. Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Unknown Problem

So my 8 was flooded for about a year before I finally decided to go outside and work on it. After I finally got it started, I revved it got all the smoke out the way and held the revs at 2000 to 3000 a min. When I let off the gas, she couldn't hold an idle (other words, went to zero) and shut off. Runs kind of rough with a deep puffing sound. I can't think off what this possibly could be. Does anybody have any ideas?

I'm sure this has been covered before, but I can't seem to find it. My ac belt is too long after installing ralco rz crank,wp, and alt pulleys. Does anybody know what size belt I need?

As the title reads, I am selling a set of 19" Mazda 6 wheels off a 2015 model.

Unfortunately I no longer own an Rx8 thanks to another instance of bad luck on the road (driver clipped my rear passenger panel) and I have since moved on to a new model Mazda 6. I just got new wheels for the car and my fiance didnt care to have these 19" wheels put on her Veloster (even though it looked nice) so I am selling them.

I am located in SoCal (Bakersfield), $650 with tires obo no lowballs.

{ FS } 2006 Brilliant Black RX-8 *Modded*

I have for sale my 2006 Mazda RX8. The car has been well maintained and is in very good condition. I have every record from Mazda. Oil has been changed every 4000 km instead of the recommended 8000 km from Mazda. The body has roughly 140k on it and the engine has about 50k. It was replaced by Mazda at 90k under warranty which I have paper work to prove along with a file of all paperwork for all services done. The car starts and runs fine. The car is modded as well. The cars engine is running strong. A new battery and starter was recently installed. No check engine lights whatsoever.

We're starting to build a drivers list for the Cayuga track event signup on the September 10th Saturday.
We have the track on Saturday from 5:00pm - 9:00pm

A little background -

Cayuga Toronto Motorsports Park. Located in Cayuga, just south of Hamilton, Ontario, this developing Motorsport complex can be configured as two smaller circuits of 1.2 and 1.8 km each or one large 3 km road course. We will use the 3 km circuit. The paved surface is a safe, flat design with good run-off room (no barriers or guardrails) and excellent sight-lines. The course has ample straights, challenging large and small chicanes, tight 90 degree and sweeping high speed turns. A truly good technical course.
It is a great learning track with two long straights, 11 challenging turns, safe run-off everywhere, and a separate area for exercises.
We usually have a briefing prior to getting out on the track, followed by a few warm up laps, then lapping for the rest of the day. "Lapping" refers to just that, doing laps. For beginners group, Passing is STRICTLY prohibited except on the back straight, and only when the person in front of you has allowed you by by signaling you to pass. We reserve all rights to kick people off the track that are driving dangerously and/or aren't listening to track marshalls.

ICE ignition

Hey all. I got my 2010 R3 this past May and it wasn't the strongest engine. However, after a track day it started misfiring and lost more pull. It sometimes even stalls at stop lights.

I went to ICE ignition and Michael offered me their new LSX coils. He said they would be great for the RX8. He says they're about twice as powerful as GM coils, and even a little better than the IGN-1A. I expect the test results shortly.

I just got the coils and wires today :mdrmed: I got the ebay harness, and new set of plugs off amazon. I hope to get it all together this long weekend. I need to set dwell soon.

BHR Ignition coil question

Replaced my OEM coils Sunday with the BHR coils. Spark plugs were fairly new so did not swap them.

Question: After spending 4 hours doing it wrong the first time and then finally getting it back together I could not snake my plug wires the original way so two are over the top of the wiring harness instead of below and through the separator. They are not touching much of anything but wonder if anyone else had trouble running the plug wires and if they had any issues.

Runs great, strong, no hesitation in the upper range. Had 34K on the OEM coils and think I was getting an issue when the outside temp went over 90F. Cutting out sometimes.

hi guys im building a rallycar and the complete wiring harness is out of the car including all computeres. I thought i had everything covered but i completely forgot about the power steering wich i really still want.
So my question is does the power steering work if i just connect the power steering engine to 12 volts?..

RX8 Instrument Cluster Needle Removal

Hello All,

Wondering if anyone can help on this.

I have removed and disassembled my instrument cluster. I have a fault LED on the circuit board I wish to solder off and replace. However, I am stuck at removing the circuit board as I am unsure how to remove the oil, tachometer, temperature and fuel gauges needles off the front face. I don't want to put too much pressure on it and break them. The only thing I have found online is on older instrument clusters where people simply use a fork underneath the needle. However, this will not work on my 2004 RX-8 as its a completely different arrangement.

Any information would be a great help.

Spark issue

So one day my 2006 6 speed rx8 just wouldnt start. I put new coils, plugs, and wires on, same issue. Haven't compression tested yet, but seemed to be good when it was running. Out of curiosity, I hooked up a timing light to the spark plug wires. From my research, only the front leading and rear leading spark plugs are supposed to fire when cranking. My timing light revealed that when I crank it, the rear leading AND the rear trailing are firing, but none of the front ones are. I swear to god i have checked 20 times that the wires arent mixed up, and have switched around the coils and they all work on the rear but not the front. Any insight to this issue? I can get it to start and run on one rotor with some patience. Any help would be appreciated

04 Rx8 won't start up.

Hi guys I have a 2004 Rx8 and when It was working perfectly fine until one day I brought it home and parked it and then the next day it wouldn't start. I was researching on the threads around here and people were saying it was flooded. I tried a couple of methods like removing the fuel pump chip and cranking the engine but I still have no luck. I bought new spark plugs and spark plug wires and replaced those but the car still won't fire up. I'm not sure if I deflooded it the wrong way. I took out the 2 bottom spark plugs and tried to turn the car on and a lot of white smoke came out. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to keep cranking until there is no more white smoke coming out which means all the fuel that flooded the engine is burnt. I'm not sure how to get this issue fixed rather then having it towed to Mazda. On some of the threads people were saying to get a compression test for my engine but I don't know if flooding the engine 1 time can make it lose compression. It could also be my fuel pump I took it to autozone and they got a code for that. Not sure though. Thank you everyone

so i was just wondering i mean i know climate zone does have an effect but where are you from and what oil grade / brand do you use i live in New jersey and was considering 10w-40 cause its freezing point is below -31F for those cold winter nights (wont ever reach that cold but hey itsn not doing any damage so why not) and boiling point is 104F maybe in the summer might change grades to adapt to the heat but ehh winters coming and this should work for now....

RX8 Clutch Replacement Problem

Hi this is my first post here, I hope I'm in the right thread.

I have a 2005 5 Speed JDM RX8 and I accidentally bought a 6 speed clutch for it (clutch plate and pressure plate).

Is it possible to buy a 6 speed flywheel and fit it into the 5 speed box?

Hey guys I was hoping this might be a fast and easy thing for a veteran to help with. I have had my 8 (40th ann. edition) for just over a year and a half now.


As you can expect I want more power. However, I am smart enough to realize the futility of trying to get what I want out of the renny


While im not necessarily a newb, ive been reading everything I can on these forums for the past year. I need some help with tech manuals, id like to do a 13b-rew swap after all the reading ive done. But as many of you know all the swap threads are just pieces of the whole puzzle (unless ive missed the good ones)


Im a very technical savvy guy ive worked on engines my whole life, although they weren't rotarys I think I can understand them, so id like to do as much as I can myself but I need a very in-depth knowledge that I can get from tech manuals.


I am an aircraft electronics tech for the US Navy and currently on deployment so I don't have internet time to spend looking for what I need.


Hopefully you guys can give me a link. I need to learn everything about the operation of the 13b-rew and the renny that I can. so I figure tech manuals are the best place to start. Thanks for the assistance guys!

1st gear sluggish RPM climb when warmed up, quick when cold

Hey guys,

my first gear pull is slow when warmed up and very smooth and quick when cold/semi warm. Rpms climb like they're being held back. Engine whines and I hear a lot of tranny noise. Today I adjusted the clutch pedal and no more whine/tranny noise and it grabs much better but there's still that slow climb in first and once that happens all other gears do the same. I've ruled out compression for now, never had a hard start and pulls like a monster when she decides to. When I was changing a solenoid I took a peek at the ssv from the top and it looked OK.

Ignition a few months old, cat about 8 months old, maf new, clutch about 8 months old too, prolite flywheel. 06 6sp 105k

What do you guys think?

Hi everyone. I bought two mazda rx8 few weeks ago, I have 2003 and 2007 kuro . At now I started moving engine from 2003 to 2007. I focused to bring back nice looking of engine and engine bay. Please tell me what will best to remove rust frome front sybframe and what I can use later to prevent rust. Hi guys, I am the proud owner of a 2005 Mazda Rx-8 Shinka.....I love her, but as of late she is killing me. I just had new plugs, coils & wires done by a local mazda mechanic - not a dealership.....I have a feeling he screwed me over on the parts....Could someone please clarify if I list the parts he used....I have done a bit of research on my own - and seems he padded things - CRAP!!!! Looking at the photos comparing the OEM side by side.. the Airtex Series I pump/housing looks significantly different than those of the OEM housing. It looks more like a Series II. Has anyone ever used this Airtex replacement Series I assembly without issue?

Factory Wiring Harness - Prewired options?

Okay so I've searched up a bit and can't find a definite answer via Googling the site or anything. I'm looking to do an engine swap into a cleaner (less rusty) RX8 and the example I pick up may be a higher trim than mine. I have a base (Touring? The trim levels are a mystery to me) 2004 model with cloth seats, no DSC, no sunroof etc. If I pick up a GT or whatever with the leather heated seats and sunroof, will my wiring harness have the plugs to just plug and play or will I have to wire functionality to them? I know I have fuses for options I don't have, and I also have plugs for fog lights I don't have. My 96 Celica (FWIW) also came prewired for options it didn't have. Just switches and such were needed.

TL,DR; are RX-8s prewired for options they don't have? Or is it only certain years? Only certain features? Please advise.

Help interpreting compression numbers

I was having hard starts when the car was warm... 2005 RX8 , 130K miles.
Figured I'd replace the starter motor but the dealer really wanted to test compression. Initially, I said no because I wasn't going to rebuild it if it was bad. However, I reconsidered and these are the numbers. Rotor 1 (front) 670,720,590 (kPa) Rotor 2 (rear) 720,700,710. So the dealer says I need a rebuld for $10K and by the way your battery is bad too. Well I replaced the battery (another thread) and for 3 months, no problems. After a nice hot SoCal summer, its starting to be more difficult but will still start within 1-2 tries. Two questions 1. Is it worth installing the rebuilt starter motor I already bought?
2. How soon should I looking to rebuild given the compression results. Extra credit - When will BHR start rebuilding engines? - I threw that in for fun!:hahano:

Problem with steering?

I own an '07 MT with about 190k. When I park my 8 at the end of the day, I usually back in to my parking spot. The last few days I'm getting a loud clicking/banging sound when I cut the wheel and begin to back into my spot. Checked everything underneath, nothing loose or broken. I'm thinking there might be an issue with the steering. It seems to turn fine when I am driving any other time, but when I shift to reverse and cut the wheel to park I get this loud noise. Does anyone have any thoughts? Any help/ideas would be appreciated.

P0441-Brand New Gas Cap

As the title states, I'm dealing with a CEL and a P0441 code. Every thread on this site relates this back the gas cap. I'm not sure what I can do to test the system from here to determine the next likely cause of failure. Am I stuck playing the "replace it and try" game with more expensive parts or taking it to a dealer? Any other cheap tricks I can try?

My only conditions are that it's rust free, the frame is straight, and there's no damage to the suspension or other components. - bad parts that need to be replaced are fine. Will be used as a recipient for good engine/tranny I have in a rusty shell.

My RX8 was broken into, have some damage need advice

Hi guys, I woke up today to find my driver's side window broken and wires cut and hanging loose below my steering wheel. The ignition switch is also pretty messed up. It looks like they jammed a screw driver in there and wiggled it around. I called a mechanic and had it towed to their place.

I just got a call back and they told me that Mazda told them there weren't any ignition switches available in the U.S. and it would take 2 months to order one? I went on eBay just now and see a couple of listings for ignition switches. So...what I'm asking is if it'd be appropriate for me to just buy those and give it to the mechanic?

I'm not sure how much the ignition switch from Mazda will run me but it seems like it would be 10x more than what I would pay on eBay.

transmission: automatic
Odometer: 144,000 and counting

Car is stock, minus K&N air intake.

Automatic, with paddle shifters. Always driven in manual and kept at 3-4K rpms.

41k on the rebuilt engine. Cat converter and SSV replaced with engine rebuild, new plugs and wires at that time, too. Zoom Zoom done and Coils replaced at 23k miles.

Car has always been premixed and ran with premium gas.

Interior is nearly perfect, of course generic cracked dash is there.

I'll go in half on a compression test if you want, and will take the other half off price of the car if you choose to buy it.

Will consider trades for NA Miata or Niassan 240.
