i bought this pedal and never got around to installing it.

it has a couple of small scratches from being moved around in the garage.

The Dead Pedal Grip is made from high-quality polished aluminum. Designed to match our Grip pedal set, the dead pedal features a wide plate with a perforated design that reduces weight and improves grip.

Im selling it for $45 shipped in the US.
I included a picture of how it will look. Obviously the car pictured is not a RX8 but it gives the general idea.




Significant differences between a Mazda rx8 and renesis?

I just bought a wire harness for my 2006 Mazda rx8 and I just noticed that the seller had it listed as a wire harness for a Mazda rx8 renesis. The seller insured me that it will be fine and I consulted a good friend who is savy with the rx8s and said it looks right as well but I wanted to get anybody else's opinion on the matter. Can anyone lend me some knowledge on this?

NEGATIVE: driftbosa

BUYERS: I suggest you avoid dealing with Mike Barbosa. He advertised an rx8 engine core for sale which I agreed to buy. I sent him paypal payment for $400 on 4-20 and also documents for shipping. All he had to do was either a) drop the shipment off at the carrier or 2) call and have it picked up. After multiple conversations and excuses, it has never been shipped, and he stopped communicating. I filed a paypal non receipt dispute and later upgraded it to a claim after a few days of no communication. It's now been almost another week since I filed the claim and he has not responded to it. I still have no engine and no refund.

Blowing that blue smoke.

History of the car: 2004 6spd. Engine is a ReMan replaced around 60k post 2008. Bought the car with 85k on it in 2012. Current Mileage is 114,7XX. Have not had a compression test done. Oil changed regularly and coolant just flushed and changed within past 2 months. Replaced coils, plugs, wires last summer. Have never over heated the car. Replacing fuel pump next weekend as I suspect its on its way out. Was not running pre mix at time of incident.

Current mods that could effect diagnosis: Mazsport Midpipe.

After some spirited driving in the mountains last night, the car started smoking pretty bad. It has always done a little blue smoke every now and then, but this was different. The car still starts fine hot and cold, no issues. Upon initial start up (cold and hot) it smokes pretty bad and then eventually stops. From what I have been reading, I'm thinking its an oil seal failure. Seemingly specifically the Front.

So my questions... Is this the likely issue and how much is it going to cost?

I have been reading this is not a task to be taken lightly if done by oneself.

Thanks for all the help. Let me know if there is any other information needed or any way I can better diagnose the car myself. I usually try not to create new threads but I read through posts for an hour and couldn't get a real specific answer for my symptoms.

Buying a 2004-05 RX8. Opinions on high mileage?

I've narrowed my search down to three options, all in southern CA:

#1 - 2005 GT, 166k miles. Private seller. Original engine, all maintenance records, recent compression test, replaced spark plugs, bwd ignition coils, aluminum radiator. $7.6k.
Seems like my best option since the owner addressed its engine, starter, and cooling issues. I'm only hesitant about that really high mileage, but it could be a solid buy if the compression test scores are good (and negotiating the price).

#2 - 2005 T, 130k miles. Dealer. 5 previous owners, compression test available. $4.6k.
Sketches me out from having 5 previous owners, its history says it's been through a few repo's and sales and I'm trying to check if its engine had been replaced/rebuilt. Could be good if the engine and transmission are still healthy, but I'd have to budget time and money for a rebuild if something goes wrong.

#3 - 2005, 125k miles. Still obtaining details. $5.6k
Seems pretty clean, but the seller also posted rx8 rotors and a crankshaft in another post. He may have rebuilt the engine and didn't mention it in his sale listing.

Thoughts and opinions on buying a high mileage RX-8? I could post sale links if it helps. Thanks guys!

De-Cat Advice

I have a 231 55 reg RX8. Recently had a warning light come up and the garage said the Cat is going and it needs a new one. I got them to delete the warning light and now it's back again. They said they can fit a new one for me, but for the same money I can get a de-cat. What do you guys reckon? (It's just had a mot by the way)

Recent issues with my 8!

Hello,

1). Recently I've noticed some issues with my 8. I've searched around the website but could not find issues that sounded like mine. Firstly, just this past week I noticed my acceleration bogs down in 1st and 2nd gear and clears up once it reaches 3rd gear and 4th gear (A/T). For instance, I'm sitting at a light or stop sign and take off, giving it a lot of gas and it goes nowhere until it hits 3rd gear. Sometimes when this happens the car starts rumbling or shakes until it clears up. Also, sometimes when it gets to 2nd gear, the car kind of rocks back a bit until it reaches 3rd gear. Any ideas what might be causing this?

2). I've also been having problems with my power windows going down. For instance, in the morning on the way to work my windows will go down fine. When I leave work in the afternoon when it's warm, my windows will not go down half of the time. Are the door panels getting too hot because of the summer heat that the motor doesn't function when warm? I'm at a complete loss with this one.

3). I've also had heating issues in the winter and cooling issues when it's warm in the past few months with the season change from cold to hot. Like my heating and cooling doesn't blow out of the vents as hard as it used to. It takes longer for them to either heat the car or cool the car. I literally have to turn it to max to get a huge airflow to come out of the vents.

4). Lastly, I'm in the market for a good radiator. After doing some searching, I think I'm going to go with the BHR radiator. The BHR website doesn't say if it's compatible for A/T. Any ideas?

Car stalling for first time ever

First off, long time visitor of this website for many DIY and troubleshooting issues. This is the first time I haven't found a solution to my problem. Hopefully someone can help.

2005; 109,336 miles, AT; no dummy lights (minus the coolant light that's been on since around 50,000 miles)

Today, I changed out coils/plugs/wires. After finishing everything up, I went to take it for the first spin and it started perfectly. Backing out of my driveway, it stalled on me in reverse. I let it sit for 20-30 since I have the glorious hot start issues, and again it started right up. As soon as I let off the gas, the RPM's crash and it stalls.

I have seen several "fixes" on here and nothing has worked yet.

I've tried the 20 brake stomp to reset the system, and also the method of warming up, turning off a/c, radio, etc, rev around 3500 for greater than 15s, rev around 5000 for greater than 15s, let cooling fan come on and let idle for 60 seconds after fan turns off. NOTHING I'VE TRIED HAS WORKED!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Any ideas?

Good Evening Fellow enthusiast !


I had the CEL come on last night, and plug my OBDII tool in this afternoon. I found a P0139, Sensor Circuit Slow Response Bank 1 Sensor 2.

From my research it appears to be rear sensor on driver side.

Curious if someone could confirm?

Also decent place to find replacement part?

Is this a DIY project, or should I be preparing for a large repair bill?

Old gas

I haven't started my rx8 in about two years.
Does gas go bad? Do I need to drain it? I'm not sure how much is in there.
If I do need to drain it, what is the best way to do it? Can it be siphoned out, do I need to drop the gas tank, or there some other way to drain the tank? I'm in Florida, lots of humidity.

Way under powered

Recently I've removed the cat, changed plugs wires and coils (advance auto ones) I literally just did the wires today and that got rid of the misfires I was having randomly. Car will hold a solid idle now most of the time. Seems like when you turn the wheel or change ac it almost always messes with the idle. I tested the alternator a few days ago it was at 13.38 with just ac on went down to 13.03 with lights on. Battery is an optima red only a few months old. I've cleaned throttle body. Maf sensor. Filter (k&n) ess I just sprayed the dog **** out of it. Cleaned ssv. Sea foamed, water rotor wash. Still it just feels like it doesn't have the power anymore. Especially shifting from 1st to second it almost feels like it's not accelerating at al for a second. It does have a cel for rear 02 sensor which went bad with the cat. But to my knowledge that doesn't affect much? Unless it's actually just completely worn out? There's a slight hiss at idle very faint. Could that be a vacuum leak? I'm not experiencing misfires as of today with the new wires. The idle jumps around infrequently and it feels under powered all together. Sometimes more so then others. You can hear the relays and switches turn at idle and it will jump the idle around when it does that. I've reset the ecu done the 20 brake stomp. Which doesn't make my pressure gauge cycle but the cel does flash after i do that. Any thoughts? No starting issues hot or cold. Never have.


Fuel Injector Question

Hey guys,

I'm hoping I don't get flamed for this. I've searched dozens of times and not found a final explanation.

As I stated in my introduction thread, I bought a non-running RX8. After seeing some of the other work the PO did on the car, I decided I should probably check the wiring harness for missing connectors, etc. I pulled the UIM off and started checking the injectors, and some of the connectors were in the wrong place (like I thought). Now that I'm putting it back together, however, I've run into a problem.

All of the injectors have unique color wires except for two: there are two that are white with blue stripe and blue with black stripe. I've looked at tons of diagrams and can't find for sure where they go. Does anyone have a surefire way to sort this out?

I'm thinking that since one of the blue/black wires is on a separate harness with the white green wire, that means that they go to the primary 2 injectors, but I wanted to make sure before I closed everything up.

New Catalytic converter help.

Ok so I live in California and I need a new catalytic converter. Unfortunately in january this new law was enforced making it extremely hard to buy one in California ( like near impossible I haven't found any so far) and just so happens I need to pass smog wich wont happen until i get a new catalytic converter. Has anyone found some site that will sell to California? I was thinking about buying from a family members address in az and then mailing it over but thats worst case. Also I'm looking for a highflow cat that will still pass smog

This is the first time I had to do this in my 4 Years in organizing this event. I had to cancel the original meet date of May 31st, due to Rain. Looks like its going to be a large amount of rain, and quite cold (9 deg.)

2004 RX8 Automatic won't start

I don't drive it much and now it won't start. Battery is good and I replaced the starter not too long ago. It is due for a 60K maintenance now @ 71K miles. The starter seems like it's not turning over the motor. Looking for local RX8 Guru to help me get it back up and running and perform the required maintenance. Before I stopped driving much I was getting the engine light on and I also get the radiator warning light but it's a sensor and not a radiator problem from what I learned. Anyway if anyone is interested in helping me get this up and running and lives close let me know. I live in Brier/Lynnwood area and have plenty of tools. My body no longer allows me to work on cars anymore suffer from chronic pain. I dread towing it to a dealer because they will charge me an arm and a leg and I have limited money to do this. I am willing to pay a reasonable fee. I am also open to referrals to a good local mechanic that is fair about what they will charge me to get my RX8 in good running condition. I hope to at least get it started so I can drive it to a good mechanic.

I live in Brier, looking for someone local to help me get my X back up and running and do recommended maintenance and anything else that needs fixing. I would like to sell the car but want it to be running great before I do so the next owner won't have issues. These cars are for people that like to work on their own cars and I suffer from chronic pain and can't do the work anymore and I have limited knowledge and skills. I can be reached @ 425-485-6801 if you want to talk and schedule a time to come out and take a look. Seems like my starter is not engaging properly now. The starter is somewhat new and battery is fine and not that old either. It's not a flood issue although it could be now and needs to be de-flooded along with whatever else that needs to be done. Plugs, Coils and Wires are also fairly new as well. I really don't want to take it to a dealer so they can milk me for money. I am willing to pay a reasonable fee.

This is very similar to the RXDuino, but was developed for the Mazda3/MazdaSpeed3 market. It is just as universal as the shield, it is just very very small with 3 interfaces. They have written a "Middleware" for passing CANBUS or specifically removing or altering them. EVENTUALLY I feel like this could be a way to dynamically tune our cars with nothing more than a UART from a Bluetooth phone or a computer running Arduino IDE.


I went ahead and started the wave by buying one for around 100 bucks. Some of the Series II functions have already been mapped since they share some similarity with the Series II Mazdaspeed 3 & Gen 3 Mazda3. (<2014)

There is also some extra pins that are unused on the board that could be used for things like Methanol Injection, a shift light, or anything you think of with PWM. There is also several Analog ports open. I was thinking Methanol Injection based on the CANBUS MAF, LOAD, & APP packets. IE 75%-WOT would be your injection point to start at. (Maybe even a oil injection pump! (on a series 1))

Another interesting idea I had was a Haltech using CAN on the 3rd bus, passing information to BUS1 (Stock PCM), and BUS2(former stock PCM to everything else, then would be HALTECH), or technically selectively using the stock ECU for some operations & the Haltech for others. The possibilities are what you can program!

I will post some more pictures so you realize how tiny this thing really is. It literally is smaller than the palm of your hand. Amazing for the price point. This is absolutely a BETA/ALPHA so it isn't proven yet.

Anyone else on board with this so far? I want to do some routine maintenance on my car before I jump in, and I want to do so without cutting and splicing any wires.

Hey everyone! new member (duh)

Hey, so I just picked up an 04 RX-8 cheap. It'll be my summer project, right now the battery's dead and the owner said it didn't start due to low compression (~35 psi) in the front rotor; the back had 90. Everything else looked clean though, and it was a manual which that made me happy. So I'm expecting to throw some time and money into it before it's running again, but it looks like I've got lots of resources. Over this weekend I'm planning on taking the engine out. Anybody have any tip or tricks I should know about? I've seen rotaryresurrection's thread about engine removal and I'll use that as a guide. And as time goes on I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions as time goes on. Just thought I'd get myself introduced


Wheel offset for 18" 8.5 and 9.5 rear?

Hello everyone,

I am new here just sold my r33 skyline a few months back and kept my 04 AT rx8.
I am going to be converting it into my new drift car with a FI 13brew bridgeport. (please I'm not saying that to get bashed, and I am not one of those dreamers about doing the swap as some say)

I am going for my handling first. I'm not going to post all the things I'm getting for it since I'll be saving that for when I actually have them and get approved to start a thread in the correct topic.

I'm getting coilovers control arms, tie rods etc the basics..
What I'm trying to figure out with this post is what wheel offset I should use (Especially in the front for rubbing after I mod my knuckles/arm).

I will be going with 18" wheels 8.5 front and 9.5 rear.
I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to roll my fenders and might pull them until I get some wider fenders, but looks is last for me at the moment..

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

DIY WI/Knock/Boost/Fuel Pump control with an arduino.

I've had a few of you guys pester me for my code/hardware. Here is a DIY to get you guys started. I'm breaking my code down into individual projects, because the master code I'm running is a bit specialized and would be hard for someone else to adapt on their own. You'll have to figure out your own display (if you even want one) and your own input method. Alternatively you can just read the data off the USB serial connection.


Attached is the WI Controller, it controls a fuel injector to maintain a set percentage of water to fuel when out of cruise.
For use you need an arduino and a prototype shield. MAF signal connects to analog pin 2 (through a 1k resistor) and the output on pin 10 (through another 1k resistor) goes to a logic level transistor or a board like this:

I'll post a simple boost controller and the script to read the TI knock chip as I have time to clean up the code. Fuel pump pressure control is waiting on parts to begin testing and I'll share when I've actually used some of the code.



My 8 Runs Better on 87 octane

So I bought a 2005 Rx8 about three years ago. Had no idea I was buying the most high maintenance car ever built by anyone anywhere. Figured out about three months after I bought it that the first gen engine had compression problems. Turns out I bought it just out of 80000 mile warranty. The owner knew it had issues and was trying to unload it. Not a huge deal, I love the car and was willing to deal with issues. Last year I finally got tired of it flooding and took it in for a compression test and found out my compression is low. I found if I replace the plugs in the spring, it will run ok until i put it away in the fall. Not a huge deal, I'm willing to spend the $100 for new plugs once a year to put off the $4000 engine for as long as possible. Even with the new plugs I was having issues with cold starts. At the end of last summer I put Boostane in and boosted premium up to about 105 octane thinking this would make it run better. Wrong idea. I toasted the plugs with one tank of fuel. This season it's been out for about a month so far. I replaced the plugs, bought a optima red top and thought I would go from there. I was still having trouble with cold starts even with brand new plugs and the optima. Last night I decided I'm tired of paying for premium and since the engine is toast anyway what do I have to loose? My tank was nearly empty and I filled with 87 octane. Within 30 miles I had more power, the car was idling better and no misfires at high rpm's. Started it this morning, and it fired quicker than it has ever before.

Has anyone else found that 8's run better on 87 octane? Also I live in MI, is there anyone that rebuilds rotaries around here? Sorry for the long post, but it's been a long road.

hey, so first thread. it would be kinda rad not to get jumped on but here goes.

from what i can tell the most popular oem seats in the rx8 is the two tone leather. but i have encountered a few with cloth seats.

if im totally honest, iv never been a fan of leather seats. but cloth seems pretty hard to find.
now armed with the fact that most people enjoy leather seats, im stuck wondering if the cloth OEM seats are a hot commodity. or if their scarcity is limited to a small group considering them selves unlucky.

put simply: cloth OEM RX8 seats.

do we all like them, or can i brighten somebody's day with the offer of a trade?

{ FS } 2004 Mazda RX8

I have a 2004 Mazda RX8 for sale, it runs, drives and stops great and has no issues and no check engine light. It is a 6 port 2 rotor renesis engine and the six speed manual transmission. The clutch has 5000 miles on it, the engine has 30000 miles on it and the body has a 131100 miles. The body is clean but has a few scratches it is not perfect but cleans up very well. The interior is in ok shape, everything works like it should and the sunroof does not leak, but the car was smoked in before I bought it and still has the scent and a couple burn holes in the fabric on the seats. Within the last 1500 miles the car received all new coils, plugs, wires, two oil and filter changes, new synthetic transmission fluid, new synthetic rear diff fluid, new coolant, new rotors and hawk hp plus brake pads all the way around I have receipts for most of the parts. I have always ran premium fuel and I premix the gas with idemitsu rotary premix. This car is a blast to drive I have owned many sports cars and this is by far the best one I have owned, but unfortunately I need to get a different car to replace my daily driver. The only thing the car needs will be two tires right now it has takeoff tires on it from a buddies rx8, also the tire pressure light flashes after about 15 minutes of driving it is a low battery in one of the sensors, all the tires hold air without any issues and lastly the low coolant light is on most of the time because of a faulty sensor if you search google you will see this is a common issue but the coolant level has not moved since I have owned the car. The car will come with a bunch of extra engine parts, a spare clutch and pressure plate, and extra idemitsu premix. Im asking $6000 obo but I am also very interested in trading for another car and I have cash to add if needed. Cars I would be interested in are a svt focus, 05 and newer ford mustang, honda civic si, honda s2000, acura integra type r, acura rsx type s, mazda miata nb chassis 99-05, nissan 350z, and maybe some subarus like a 2.5rs. Im looking for a sports car that I can daily drive and be able to drive in the winter as well that gets decent fuel economy so I may have forgot a few cars, but you can pm me or call or text me with your offers or what you have to trade. Air conditioning smells bad

Hi there guys , I just got my 2004 RX-8 and the car's air conditioning system smells like pee, and you can feel a difference between the air conditioning vents, the air flows stronger and cooler or hotter(depending if you have the air or the heater) on the passenger's side, I already replaced the in-cabin air filter and it smells better. Do you have any ideas or experience?? thank you in advance.

{ FS } Stock Air Intake (Series II)

I have a complete stock air intake for sale. I left my AEM one on the car when I sold it. All the parts should fit on a series I except for the piece with the breather hoses because the series II only has two holes where the series I has three. Someone could modify it to fit possibly. No Power At All

My 2007 RX-8 AT with 21k miles has a hard time starting and as soon as I am able to start it I have no power when putting it in drive or reverse and the engine light flashes continuously. Not sure what to do? Could it be the plugs/coils or do I need to take it to the dealer?

HELLO! So I got an RX8 and I love it! but I have a problem

I have a very clean 2004 with 94k miles. Bought it for $2,000.00

It does have the hot start problem which I am trying to fix with a can of engine restore. I have seen a few testimonials of people saying it fixed their low compression issue after a few hundred miles.

First what wasreplaced within the last 30 days

Radiator + Coolant
Thermostat
Fans
Plugs
Coils
Oil
Also decarb
(Dealership did it all)

Tomorrow, new starter

Now MY Rx8 is overheating when I sit idle... the engine feels like it is running pretty hot all the time. The fan is blowing hot air right into the air filter, i feel like that could be a major contributing factor.

I thought about getting a pipe and extending the air filter to the other side of the radiator where the air is not blistering hot... or re routing the air from the fans. I have NO idea what to do or why this is happening.

Is my cat clogged? (Picture)

Been feeling some hesitation in acceleration at times. I have a service record from Mazda from about a year ago that noted high cat temps but not to high to worry yet. I have to replace my down stream o2 sensor and figure now was as good a time as any to visually inspect. There's no rattle when I tap it but there's also zero light getting through. I mean no light at all. Any feed back would be appreciated.
