Has anyone had a damaged oil cooler?

vendredi 2 décembre 2016

I was looking at a couple of threads about protective screens for the oil coolers. That made me wonder why Mazda didn't put any in in the first place. It occurred to me that perhaps Mazda designed them to be rugged enough to handle the occasional bug or large pebble strike, and no other protection is necessary. That raises the question, has anyone here had their oil cooler seriously damaged by road debris?

BTW, smashing into the back of a garbage truck at 50 mph doesn't count.

I am selling my BCL wing and custom support setup since I have preordered a chassis mounted wing.
Complete BCL Atmosphere Demolisher Kit = $475 + shipping
Custom Support Braces = $150 + shipping
I can provide more pictures upon request. The wing comes with all hardware & extra sets of hardware (minus one bolt and washer that I cannot retrieve). I would recommend replacing all hardware with stainless steel as it tends to corrode being exposed to the elements. I have only had this wing on my car for 3/4 of a year. The wing material is FRP, with "manly" mounts (not FD legal) Condition is only ok for the following reasons, however is better than when I received the wing.
- Wing was likely damaged in transit, resulting is slight scratches on the FRP finish. I plastidipped the deck to cover these imperfections.
- Deck mount/landing for the 90 degree upright piece was not even flat (possibly a moulding error on BLC's part). I had this shaved down to mount properly.
- The mounting holes in the deck for the 90 degree mount piece mentioned above were not straight. I had these re-tapped and locktight used to seal the bolts in. Since the material is FRP, these should only be removed if absolutely necessary. Risk of damaging the wing upon removal is high (for these two brackets only).
The benefit of buying this setup is that you do not have to risk having the same manufacturing defects. These defects were not fun to deal with.
I am selling the support rods separately. The only item the custom support rods will not come with is the custom mounts to the bumper. I can provide insight and rough measurements for this if you would like. Each of those stainless steel rods cost $100 new from Mcmastercarr.
Don't be too deterred, the wing looks pretty awesome as is and I got more compliments on it than my car. Let me know if you have any questions. Shipping is on the buyer, but I promise to pack the items exceptionally well and try to ship for the cheapest possible cost. Thank you for looking.

After a round of troubleshooting im left with..

A handful of ideas and nothing concrete. I'll try to keep it short and to the point, but I'm at a loss here as to ruling out what the issue is with my car.

06 galaxy gray 6MT.
126~K miles.
Megan racing midpipe.

Approx two months ago on a drive from FL to NC up I95, cruising, I noticed when the fuel level got to roughly half a tank, if I would try to accelerate, the car would hesitate and cut out, the more I would try to give it gas it would just hit a flat spot and go nowhere, with audible backfires thrown in. This got progressively worse the lower the fuel level got.

I chocked it up to a failing fuel pump, because as soon as I would fill up the problem went away. Car would also leak gas from the fuel pump ring when filled up.

Due to short trips the issue never resurfaced until now. Less than two weeks ago the car would hit flat spots during driving at a sustained speed, When warm, stall out when in neutral, or sometimes catch itself before stalling, with an idle that would surge.
Wot acceleration is fine, car pulls.

Pulled codes. Evap leak, (surely related to the pump and loose retaining ring.)Eccentric shaft sensor. Strangely no misfire codes as I would have thought. And code for the midpipe.

*Replaced pump with new one.

No more leak, need to get codes pulled again, but car still stalls when in neutral after it gets warm. I thought compression, but it pulls hard when at Wot. Takes a few cranks to start up again though.

Thoughts? The ess was replaced months ago, the code went away, and now that this started happening it's back again.

Water coming out the side of engine

So i baught this rx8. The guy had overheated the car. He didnt know why it overheated, took to mazda they said new motor he said its for sale. Well i found the source of wjy it overheated amd that is because the radiator cracked on top right under the air cleaner. So i was checking amd checkin and noticed water running through the seals on the rotor housings. It is on both housings against the mid plate. Is this motor still rebuildable or is that a pretty good indication the housings got warped?

My Can-Bus project...not pictured is the Shield. I will use this to convert what I can on the stock cluster to work for the new motor. Certain things like the oil pressure will get an actual aftermarket gage...the Yes/No factory gage won't cut it. Maybe a GPS module for speed instead of VSS...idk yet.
