does anyone have oscilloscope data for series I rx8 wheel speed sensors?

I am trying to use haltech for traction control and it's asking sensor voltage at 500, 1k, 2k, 3k, 4k, 5k, and 7k wheel revolution. I don't have any oscilloscope to find out.. does anyone have this data handy for our wheel speed sensors? Thanks in advance.

Misfire... after swap

okay so I had a very bad misfire and the engine would stall, and then not want to restart.

I swapped the coil harness connectors (very limited info for correct order anywhere)

It now runs fine after 3000 RPM but at low RPM has trouble making power and sometimes will die at idle

I have an extra set of coils and wires that I've swapped that makes no difference

I have changed the plugs twice to no avail

One thing I am concerned with is the injector plugs on the intake manifold I was able to find that a blue one is on the top, correct?

And there is a black and white plug underneath them I have no idea what order they go in.

Could that be what's causing this issue?

Ok I just did an engine swap and I see my front stream 02 sensor plug is not connected to anything!

Can someone help me find which/where the harness plug I need to plug into is?

Location, and or color of wires would help greatly.

Of course I've searched the forums and Google and I'm not finding what I need

{ FS } 2004 Velocity Red RX-8 AT - Kansas City Area

This RX-8 has treated me exceptionally well and I have returned the favor by treating her exceptionally well. I have owned the car for over 20,000 miles (90% Highway/10% City) and the only part I've had to replace is one wheel bearing due to normal wear and tear. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out.

The good:

-Paint is in good shape for being 13 years old; I tried to wax once a season.
-Interior is in fantastic condition - no stains, tears, etc.
-A/C works fine and so does the heater; no leaks in compressor or A/C lines.
-Rims still look good; no pitting or brake dust
-Brakes were replaced with drilled and slotted performance rotors last spring.
-All 4 tires have less than 5,000 miles on them
-Tune-up was done 20,000 miles ago and the engine still has good compression after being rebuilt at 65,000 miles by the previous owner. (Averaged 19 mpg combined driving aggressively ;) )
-Coolant was changed last spring and the cooling system has no leaks.
-I changed the oil every 3,000 miles and premix'd ~4oz of Idemitsu 2-stroke oil every fill up.
-I cleaned existing ground and added a heavy duty grounding kit to improve electrical systems and increase performance.
-I replaced the OEM stereo with an aftermarket Alpine 7 speaker set and JVC headunit.
-Also added blue footwell lights and dome LEDs to contrast the red dash lights.
-0 flooding or hot start issues since I have owned it.

The bad:

-Crack in windshield
-The other front wheel bearing needs to replaced soon
-Rough idle due to old motor mounts; runs smooth with applied throttle

RX8 Sunroof not closing

I've seen many different threads of people complaining their sunroof doesn't work, the motor was out, it was stuck, etc. I haven't seen anyone actually post any pictures or links of the sunroof getting fixed. My sunroof motor is out. Could anyone post any pictures or links that show the easiest way to get to the sunroof motor or how to manually close it? It'd be very much appreciated

Car vibrates violently and stalls out after driving for a while

Hey guys, once again, helping out a friend in need.

Car is an 2004 AT. Rebuilt motor with only around 2000 miles.

The car starts perfectly, and it runs smooth till it get warm. After about 10-15 mins of driving, the car starts to vibrate (whole car), losses power and then stalls out. Even if he gives more gas, it slowly looses power and just stalls out.

Now, a couple of months back, I drove this car, and whenever in Drive, and going really slow (say 1-2 mph) the car would vibrate. It felt like someone was pumping on the brakes real fast. The whole car just shook violently. Only happened in drive. Never in neutral. So it's definitely transmission related.

He was driving the car with low transmission fluid, and then he realized he was loosing fluid, so he topped it off with some local Valvoline ATF fluid.

We tried cleaning the MAF. Changed the Air filter. Replaced coils & plugs. No luck.


Could this be transmission related?

First off a breif history and info on my 8. 2004 (Base Model) A/T, just yesterday surpassing the 83,000 mile mark. I have put nearly 10,000 miles on it myself thus far. I bought it from a smaller used car lot auto auction here in my town knowing she needed a little work but as a project the dirt cheap price Tag and relatively low miles were a no Brainer, I wanted to build a Rotary 😊 The major issue was the radiator starting to Crack near the bottom passenger side corner so the Lot mechanic put a new one in for me at no cost (Still the moronic plastic factory radiator but I couldn't complain I suppose haha) The first few days owning My 8 I did more and more research and found all of the reported service history that I could possibly dig up. Not too many complaints, the car was taken decent of. Nothing coming close to Rotary standards of care and maintenence. However, service history states it did get frequent Oil changes and standard maintenence on a regular basis, all in all the Car was cared for. My only concern was a gap in Odometer recordings. From 52,000 miles to the next standard Odo recording of a little over 67,000 miles there weren't any Oil changes reported to the vehicles service history records. Which I know not everyone or every auto mechanic reports a vehicles service history and many people such as myself do Thier own oil changes and dont report, But nonetheless that Gap is bothersome to me. Another thing I noticed in the service history records was at 47,144 miles the Engine was replaced under Mazda's ShortBlock Recall/Warrenty. Meaning that when I bought the car with the Odometer reading a little over 74,000 but the Engine itself was only about 27,000 miles old. Which don't get me wrong, if someone who doesn't understand or even really care TO understand the ins and outs of owning and maintaining a Rotary Engine buys this car and trys to treat it like it's just any ordinary vehicle, the Engine could easily fail within 30,000 miles.Now on to the work i've done up to this point. I had one(1) check engine code at first, which was "P0661- intake manifold tuning control valve circuit low- bank 1". I removed the UIM and replaced the Air solenoid (the middle one) which removed the Cel and I haven't seen that code pop back up since. A list of the work i've done since is as follows...MODS:-New MAF Sensor-AEM Cold Air intake (which FYI for anyone experiencing this with the AEM. I fitted the single removable screen from the Stock Airbox into the AEM CAI about 5-6 inches before the MAF sensor and that completely smoothed out that unfortunate rough Idle many of us experience with aftermarket intakes!)-New Throttle Body-New 2.0 2,000 KW high torque Starter Motor-New Battery: Optima 35 Red Top-Manzo Exhaust Headers​​​​​​-Turbo XS RacePipe (catless)​​​​​​-Turbo XS CatBack exhaust Now that ya'll got the specifics, on to the incident in question. FIRST I WILL SAY THIS JUST TO CLARIFY AND REITERATE!!!! This car is not only a vehicle, this Car is my life. As I'm sure anyone who reads this can attest to, we LOVE our rotaries and we care for them as such!!! I Premix with Idemistu at a 1/2 ounce per gallon every single time i fill up with NOTHING but Cenexx or Shell 93 Octane. I only Use Royal Purple 5W-20 and Royal Purple Oil filters to Change the Oil out for fresh every 2,000 miles like clockwork. I don't EVER start it up and then subsequently turn it off nor have I ever even thought about putting her in gear until AT LEAST the Temperature gauge begins to rise and even then I still give it 10 minutes or so out on the road before I really open the throttle up. Almost 10,000 miles ive put on this car, NEVER ONCE have i flooded it. I always be certain to Rev up to at least 5,000 RPM's a few times and then wait for the Idle to drop back down to normal prior to EVER shutting the engine off. Almost 10,000 miles ive put on this car, NEVER ONCE have I flooded it. I RedLine multiple times a day, every single day as well as having seafoamed the engine twice thus far. Now, here's exactly what happened. I was driving home from work tonight on the highway, my radar was clear so I was doing about 110 MPH id say when this occurred. Driving along, Everything is as smooth as can be then all of a sudden the gas pedal just felt like it was losing power near the 5,000 RPM range. I know I've been needing a new fuel pump so I immediatly figured it was that finnally starting to really give out on me. I depressed the pedel in a little more and a little more just to see, yet still yielding no change or acceleration so I just took my foot off the Gas completely. Well....the moment I took my foot off the pedel and the RPMs began to drop I heard what sounded like an exhaust backfiring or "spitting" as some call it. Then, immense clouds of white smoke started flowing out of the exhaust. No visible smoke that i could notice coming from the Engine bay area. I babied the car home in which doing so to my surpise at stop lights and such, the Idle was still perfectly sitting right at 900 RPM as it always has, no fluctuation whatsoever. I noticed my temperature gauge as well as my oil pressure was still perfect which in a moment I'll explain why that is so odd to me. I get home and I'm inspecting everything under the hood, things looks exactly as I left them the last time I was under the hood and then I noticed it....right below my air filter (aftermarket stainless steal reusable air filter) was a puddle of ehhhhh I'd say half a qaurt of Oil, If even that much. Dripping down from the filter pooling on top of my undershield directly behind the bumper Lip, but no visible oil anywhere else under the hood.....BUT somehow a FULL 4 1/2 qaurts of oil is just GONE. Pulled my dipstick after I saw the Oil leakage coming from the air filter and theres not even enough oil in the car to register a line on the dipstick.....Like.....HOW in the hell?!?! I know that white smoke was probably Oil burning but losing 4 1/2 qaurts in a matter of a few minutes? Any input is appreciated. BTW I forgot to mention, when I bought the car I ran a compression test myself. Front Rotor- 107 PSIRear Rotor- 101 PSI Soooooo I think it's safe to say compression isn't the culprit here?

Hi everyone, i drove my 2004 mazda rx8 to class like any normal day but when i came to crank it afterward it wouldn't start. after taking off the fuel pump relay and fuel pump fuses off i started cranking the car while having my foot all the way on the gas and it didn't work. i changed the spark plugs (the old once were nearly dead) and i already have LS1 coils on (had them on for like 2-3 months now) new spark plugs wires too and replaced the starter not too long ago too with a duralast starter. i also tried taking the spark plugs out and the fuel pump relay, fuel pump and the circuit fuses and cranked the car for 8-9 seconds while waiting for 30 seconds in between to see if any oil/gas will come out of the spark plugs holes but nothing came out. also the spark plugs were not dirty when i took them out again after a couple of attempts to "deflood". so that's why i came to the conclusion that its not flooded. i can also hear the fuel pump kick in as soon as i turn the key to ON and my gas went from a quarter to an Empty while try to crank the car which means that the pump is ok ... right:D:?
Last note: my 8 was flooded before and i've deflooded it using one of the common procures and the sound of the car when cranking it kept getting better every time i keep trying, but this time it did not change at all, it will just keep cranking normally without showing any signs of starting
Any suggestion on what to do and what the source of the problem is ?

Aftermarket Oil Lines Using Banjo Bolts

I am in need of aftermarket oil lines. I am doing an engine rebuild and my lines are too rusted out from Michigan winters. I rather not go back to OEM.

However, I do have modified banjo bolts for oil sensors and I would like to keep using them. It looks like Racing Beat and others similar are out as they use adapters and not banjo bolts.

It looks like mishimoto has banjo bolts. Does anyone know if our stock banjo bolts would work as well? Is my only option OEM?

Also, does the mishimoto only have two banjos? Where are they used?

do RX8 engines still have an 8 year warranty?

I have a 2010 series II
but I bought it in 2011 brand new
so either way this is less than 7 years and my car has like 39,000 miles on it

anyway, the dealer says they will replace the engine but since I did not purchase the car from them they cannot find the warranty information

I bought the car at a different dealership about an hour away a long time ago
so I will have to call them tomorrow, though I'm not really sure for what?
does the current dealership want a bill of sale or something?

500 miles on rebuild and... Injectors?

I recently picked up my rx8 from the shop after having the engine rebuilt. As far as i know everything was reused except the Housings and seals obviously.

I have just passed 500 miles on the break in and I'm starting to do pulls passed 8k. It seems like the engine cuts out at anywhere between 4k and 6k rpms sometimes higher. Its a short cut but its extremely noticeable. Im trying to remember correctly what the mechanic said pretty sure it was something along the lines of the secondary injectors not being used much and that it would clear itself out eventually. I've also been premixing pretty heavy at their recommendation of an ounce per gallon of marine 2 stroke.

So my question should i look into new injectors? could it be the premix creating the problem? Or are there any other possibilities? I did notice the exhaust sound almost seemed to becoming more from the middle of the car. I had them check the cat and he said it was fine but pretty close to its last leg. Could a clogged or partially clogged cat be to blame as well?

Throttle position issue

Hello all, have a question about my accessport. When I accelerate to WOT it is showing the the throttle is only at 67%. I've tried in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gear. I've held the pedal to the floor for 10-15 seconds and no change. Is this a normal reading or has anyone else experienced this? Car is an 04' 6 speed. I've had the Mazdamaniac calibration done. Engine runs fine, was just curious as to why the TPS didn't show 100% when the pedal was fully pressed. Thanks in advance

Hello all first poster here. This is my 2007 RX8 with 102k miles original motor. In this picture it is completely stock. After doing my research on this forum I found alot of useful information. I just recently dropped about 2k on this car in parts.

I have a Turboxs Catback exhaust with a highflow catpipe sitting, turboxs 25mm wheel spacers , AFE short shifter, 225/45ZR-18 KUMHO ECSTA LX PLATINUM XL Tires, new spark plugs and coils from Racing Beat, and Drop Engineering purple lug nuts. Other mods I am considering are new rims and a CAI but I find that the CAI might not be necessary as Mazda built a very strong one for this car.

Btw since these photos were taken I have removed the red tow hook as i felt it would clash with the purple lug nuts once they are on. All will be installed next week! Ill post updated pictures once its all set! :Peace:

Tire size question

Looking for some input. I have a 2004 6 speed and am looking at replacing the tires. Book says tires that come with the car are 225/45R18. The tires that came with the car when I bought it a year and a half ago are 245/40R18. What is the major difference? I'm inclined to go with what it has currently but don't know if that size is hurting the performance of the car. I don't do anything with the car other than drive it to work and normal daily stuff (errands, drop off child at sitter, etc.) but I do like push her when I'm in the mood. Thoughts or suggestions?

Coil popped out

My 8 is in the garage waiting for the warm, dry weather. I was gazing at it longingly in the garage the other day and I noticed one of the ignition coils appears to be disconnected. I can't really reach it and I have zero mechanical ability anyway.. I want to take it in for fluid changes before I run it in the spring. Will it be a problem for me to drive it any distance (to the dealer) with a coil unplugged? Or is this so simple/trivial I'll be banned for not trying to get it plugged back in?

Rotary burning no Oil?

Hey guys! Starting to get concerned about my 8, and i want to get some feedback before i start spending money on replacing things. It's been about 2 thousand miles now, and ive burned [B] very little to no oil.[B] Im fairly certain from what research i have done, that if the OMP has failed that its supposed to pop a CEL? Also oil consumption seems to have been slowly dropping over about 5k or so miles, but i cant be certain, due to having to replace my battery and do some other work, causing my trip odometer to reset several times.

So i don't think that is the issue, im thinking clogged lines, but from what ive seen, that requires taking then engine out in order to replace? Any other options or ideas? Ive also been premixing fairly heavily, so Im not too concerned about engine health as of right now, but i do know thats temporary.

I am confused?? Why my car shoots flames ... is this good or bad?

The modifications to my car that i have internally are agency power exaust ,ngk spark

plugs, engine rebuild,opl aluminum radiator and bhr coils. Currently my engine as a check engine

light and coolant light that turns off and on. My car shoots flames and i don't know why...

unless this is normal. (Ask my mechanic and he says its okay). wanted to know if you

anyone would agree.

ECU/Ignition Replace

Replacing the ecu with matching locks including ignition lock and key.

While researching, I found some conflicting opinions as to whether will also need 'ECU rebuilt with "as built" data from Mazda.' .

Will I need anything other than matching ecu/locks/key in order to make the swap without having to reprogram the keys?

Hey Guys,

Plans are in upcoming months to rebuild my 6 port. This will be my first rotary rebuild. Does anyone know of a good rotary rebuild video that I can buy? I know atkins sells a rebuild video, anyone ever seen it? Any good?? I have watched some on YouTube.

I just want to know what I am getting myself into before I do this. I know it doesn't mean much but I have rebuilt several piston engines in the past without issues. As long as I have the proper steps, clearance tools and specs Ill be fine.

So I found a guy selling a 2004 RX8 with a 5.3 vortec engine swapped into from a Chevy 1500 and it also has a rebuilt transmission. When I went to take a look at it and it didn't really have that good of acceleration, cause it's supposed to have about 320 horsepower. What could the problem be? If it's easily fixable, what else should I look for?

DIY Aux in - Over MD/Tape

Hey guys Sorry if this is a repost or if it has been covered before but i couldnt find anything on that subject! Usually when someone asks they get the answer to buy a Ipod Aux kind of module for 60usd or something like that. I stumbled on the diy of another member who solders some wires into the headunit and uses a silenced cd to play music through his aux in which is a neat idea! But i dont like using a silenced cd... So i figured if you can use the Audio in/outputs or whatever from the cd ... maybe you could use the MD/Tape in/outputs aswell!?

So after some more research i found a thread on another forum! This is about the Bose System on the Mazda 6 but i suppose these headunits are quite similiar or atleast have the same input for a MD/Tape module!?

Would that work on our Bose unit aswell? Is it the same connector!? I think that would be the best and cheapest solution since it is kind of plug and play with things most of us have lying around and doesnt require opening up and soldering around in curcuit boards of the headunit which i think a lot of us are afraid of!?

So .... has anyone tried that before!?


DIY Aux in - Over MD/Tape

Rebuild warranty issue

I'm having trouble with my engine rebuild after 11 months and the rebuilder is pushing back on my warranty claim. I'm not going to post who it is (yet) because I don't want to burn bridges just (yet).

We are both seeing similar numbers on our compression testers (both using RCT-V5).
99/96/94 @298 RPM on the front rotor (he sent me a photo of their RCT-V5)
Rear rotor when I tested was just barely above spec and rebuilder reports the same.

The rebuilder has the engine and they can't replicate my intermittent hot-start issue but their numbers match mine. They are claiming that there has to be a hot start/idle issue or compression has to be below 90 psi (or 10 psi diff between faces) for a warranty claim (this is nowhere on their website).

The rebuilder claims that the below-spec numbers are due to the fact that they used Atkins seals which don't break in the same and they reused my irons. This sounds like BS to me. If they don't break in then that's a problem. Also, if the reused hardware was out of spec, why didn't they include that in the orignal rebuild?

Am I being taken for a ride here?

Quick fuel pressure question

When I leave the car out, should the pressure drop? When I leave my 8 overnight the fuel pressure is reading 0 to 15. But when I put the key to the on position it goes back to about 54 and when I start it up it goes onto steady 60. Is that normal?

Hi all, I had a bad / loose connection on my battery terminal and the intermittent power caused my EPS module to go bad. ( I have verified this as the problem through ohm testing of the wireharness etc etc ) anyway, I'm going to replace the module , but what are the chances the noise filter also needs to be replaced?

2004 rx8 will not turn over

I just bought a 2004 rx8 from a guy and when I turn the key the dash lights work but nothing else. Radio, seat adjustment, windows, etc. I've done a little research and it sounds to me that things can get pretty complicated in the order you do things with this car and how you do them. So I figure asking the professionals would be my best bet before I do anything at all. However I am on my way to purchase a chiltons manual to try to understand this car better. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

P2070 (Solved)

Thought this might be helpful for some of the newer owners.

I did all these to the SSV

Cleaned the valve to shiny new
the valve moved freely by hand prior to and after cleaning
Watched it cycle itself correctly
Tested actuator with pump successfully
tested solenoids successfully
Swapped solenoids twice to see if code changed - it did not
changed all vacuum lines

And still ssv stuck open code.

last thing to do was test the impact switch, and sure enough it was DEAD. and I mean 0 ohms dead. I tested the impact switch plug with an ohm-meter. I somehow managed to grab the ssv plug by hand, unplug it, and test it without taking anything out of the way. I was also able to press in the impact switch when testing. A few scratches on the hand no big deal. The impact switch should produce 2 to 3 ohms when pressed in and 0 when not. So I tested mine and it read 0 ohms when pressed in. There it is, impact switch failure tripping my p2070 code because the computer thinks it's stuck open when it's not.
