Help me fix my Rx-8

So first off, any idea how long my engine will last me if its running around 6.5 compression??

And to pass my emissions i need to fix codes P0661, which is Intake Manifold Tuning Valve Control and P2259, which says Secondary Air Injection System Control "B" Circuit low.

I've read that the valve just needs to be cleaned but what is the best way to go about this?

Dash Tablet in Hot Climates

I installed a tablet in the factory nav hood and today temps reached 100F. While driving the tablet disabled charging due to the battery over heating. I'm also transferring to San Diego in a couple weeks so things will only get hotter. I'm looking for ideas to keep it cool while in operation. So far all I've got is putting a 12v computer fan on the back and running some duct to the floorboard behind the dash.



Has anyone had problems with their tablet crashing due to the heat?




Anyone ever over-torque a nut on the exhaust manifold?

I think I have a minor exhaust leak at the engine. I sometimes smell exhaust when the car is stopped, and I'm hearing that distinctive ticking sound typical of very small leaks at the manifold. I did get under the car to check it, and I felt a very minor breeze around where the manifold meets the engine.



I'm thinking of getting back under the car and just checking the torque on the fasteners at the manifold. I'm still covered by the warranty, but I can't get an appointment at a dealership in short order and I hate being gassed by pre-cat exhaust fumes while the car is stopped. The thing is, I'm worried about what might happen if I accidentally over-torque one of the nuts. Will the nut give first? That'd be a pain, but nowhere near as bad as a stud or the threads in the engine. Just want to make sure what I'm getting into before I take the plunge.

Power steering outage

Has anyone out there had repeated power steering problems? I had mine go out about 4 times. Every time, the problem just seems to "fix itself" by restarting the car. My mechanic took a look and he was stumped.




Rebuilding 2005 RX8

Just bought a not running RX8. The radiator cracked and lost all coolant, overheated and the owner wanted to sell. I gave him the cash on Monday and started pulling it apart immediately. I signed up here for assistance in rebuilding the motor, which I already have out of the car and down to the shortblock. I would really like to start a tech thread but I assume its a post limit that is stopping me from doing so. Anyway heres the car as I purchased it.







And here it is with the spare rims from my RX7. Much better IMO, and wider. I may need to roll the rear fenders.

Im having trouble getting the flywheel off, I removed the nut but am having a hard time actually getting it off. I've sprayed with oil penetrant and will try in a few hours.

Metra and Double Din Radio Install Video?

I have a new headunit Pioneer SPH-DA110 AppRadio 3 Smartphone receiver at Crutchfield.com coming tomorrow and I will begin installation this weekend. I also have the Metra Kit Metra 95-7510 Factory Integration Adapter (Flat Black) Install a new double-DIN car stereo in a 2004-08 Mazda RX-8 at Crutchfield.com coming then as well. Total the replacement was just over $400.



My question to all of you is will it benefit to make a video of the installation? I haven't been able to find a full install yet and I think it would be helpful to others if they can see all the steps.

Realistically, What is my Rx8 Worth?

So ive been dabbling with the though of selling my Rx8, but it seems like the resale value has just gone to the dogs since I purchased mine. So heres what I have:





2007 Mazda Rx8 Grand Touring:

-Grand touring pkg (heated seats, leather, sliding sunroof, etc.)

-Navigation Pkg.

-44k Miles

-Car has had no issues and is mechanically perfect, sparks, coils, wires changed 10k ago, oil always added when needed. its been well taken care of.

-Cobb AP, custom tuned

-2 12" Polk Subs with 1700W Amp

-15% tint in the front, 5% everywhere else









Exterior:

has normal wear for a 7 year old car, decent sized ding on the passenger side door, but overall the exterior is probably a 7.5/10, 8+ if the ding gets fixed cause it makes it ugly as hell. Always garaged.





Interior:

Interior is flawless atleast a 9/10 if not better, has navigation, leather, heated seats, all the bells and whistles.





I would like to think I could maybe get $16k out of it, but realistically I know the hammer price wont be that high, but what are yalls thoughts?




Apex seals

I own a 2005 Mazda RX-8 manual trans. 120,000 mi. religiously maintained. Apex seal blasted at 120,000 on my way to work.



The first thing the tow truck driver said when he got out of his truck was " I tow more of these cars than anything else!"



An acquaintance of mine who is also a mechanic informed me I was one of the lucky ones his seals blew at 30,0000 and also at 60,000.

13b-MSP 6-port (Out of 2005 6-speed)

100-120 P.S.I. compression (see video attached)



It was a perfectly good engine when I pulled it out. My specific 13b-rew swap required the front cover off of the renesis, So this motor does not have a front cover (perfect candidate for a Rx8 with a blown motor....) I did however bolt on the 13b-rew front cover in its place to protect the internals. What you see in the pictures is what you will get on the crate... No OMP, or Oil Pedistal!! I do have some other engine components that I can box up and ship separate. UIM,Coils,Air pump,Engine Mounts, Etc... just ask. So how I am going to do this is take the best offer. So let the auction begin I guess? I really don't know what to price this at. But when I see an offer at a number I like..... well Ill take that. And please be patient with me for I've never shipped out a engine before and I work full time so scheduling a time for the freight company to pick up the engine might take a day or so. Shipping May varey on location... Maybe somebody knows somebody that is traveling south....?:dunno: If so :icon_tup: Because Im about as far north as you can get in Wisconsin. Anyways

COBB AP CEL masked, force readiness for inspection

Long story shot I am having a hell of a time getting my car to have the monitors active to get an inspection. I currently have p0420, p0410, p2096 all masked with my Cobb. Drove 100 miles an catalyst monitor, secondary air system, and oxygen sensor will not ready.



How do you force readiness with a Cobb? Or how do I get this car inspected?

I have this extra TTS kit laying around if anyone is interested. It's brand new, never installed it (sold car before I got around to it). It's to know when your tires are up to operating temp.

just installed int-x. car won't crank

2004 gt with about 110k miles. I just installed the esmeril turbo kit. Mechanically it's done. I go to Instal the interceptor-x and attempt to start her up after a few months ( brand new battery) and no cranking. No clicking. nothing. You can here the starter relay from the engine bay that's it. I checked the main 120 amp fuse. All grounds are sat. The security light is blinking also. I'm lost. Any help would be appreciated. Obviously I can't take it to the dealer. Unless I'm wrong. Thanks for any help and input.

Difficult Cold Start

A relatively short summary of my situation is as follows.



I own a 2004 with roughly 128500 miles. I purchased it used with around 119000 miles. As with most older 8's it as its issues, but I come today searching for confirmation/guidance on remedying an issue that has recently surfaced. A week ago today did a bit of housekeeping on my car. Cleaned the MAF, replaced the air filter, cleaned the ESS, and carbon cleaned it. After performing the carbon cleaning on the old ignition system I replaced the coils, plugs, and wires with a new set. Following all of this, none of the issues I was attempting to address (rough idle, poor fuel economy, hard hot starts, reduced power) were solved except for perhaps a slightly smoother idle. Under normal circumstances I would simply attribute these symptoms to a failing engine since they fall directly in line with low compression symptoms, however, a new symptom presented itself post-install. I am now getting very hard cold starts which should not be caused by a low compression engine. Based on my research and knowledge a hard cold start could be attributed (in most cases) to either a weak battery or a bad component of my new ignition system. Once the car starts it runs fine in terms of smoothness and redlines with no misfires, but the gas mileage seems to have suffered even more than it was with what I assumed previously to be failing coils. I was told by the previous owner that they were replaced at about 105000 miles. The car started fine hot or cold when I purchased it at 119000.



My question:



Could these symptoms be caused by a bad plug or would a bad plug cause a misfire while running?



I will repost if I have any other questions and I will be checking periodically so please don't hesitate to ask if you need more information.

Radio problems

I have a 2004 Mazda Rx8 I was messing with my aftermarket radio and the radio stopped working. I have checked every wire that could possibly affect it and I'm almost positive that it is the main radio cable behind where the radio sits is there a DIY on how to replace that cable, also I have an amp and sub and the amp wont turn on either but all of the cords are in correctly and hooked up well.




2015 GTI test drive

While waiting for my 2015 BRZ to come in I though I'd drive the new GTI that I saw parked out front of a local dealership. Not to worry guys, hang on to the 8..



I felt like I was driving a 3050 lb minivan. Not just the view out the front. The clutch, steering, and shifter were so light it was alarming. The seats, while having great lateral support, were too tight across the back. That steering also turns in too quick, possibly a result of the variable ratio. Car was a 6 spd and had PZero Nero all seasons. It rode too well, and I felt as though I was just skimming over the road surface. Brakes were strong, but also non-linear. Best thing about the car? The turbo motor. Lag seemed worse than the outgoing car, but plenty of punch once the boost kicked in. But its too quiet. Dash quality was worse than the 8.



Getting back into the RX8, all the control efforts returned and my car felt almost lowered by comparison. All in all, I was glad to get out of this mexican minivan..



Oh, and you can't have the 2 door till fall or even December. Summer tires are a no-cost option.

For your 18s, I don't care how they look -- curb rash is okay. I only care that:



1. the tires are decent summer tires with at least 5/32 left;

2. TPMS sensors are included;

3. the tires hold air; and

4. the rims are true and balanced.





My R3 19s have some curb rash. 3 of the 4 tires are original Bridgestone RE050As and they are well worn; one is a General all-season with plenty of tread left (thanks, previous owner). However, all of them hold air, are perfectly balanced, and include TPMS sensors. Pics forthcoming.

Rotary fwd?

I'm 31 going on 32 and for the last 12 years I've wondered about rotarys..but it's kinda off the subject I know but what transmission could I use or adaptor plate do I need to make it usable in a fwd vehicle. .I'm taking a rotary workshop class in a week with a chance to win another Renesis engine to have at my disposable..maybe toss it in a 1988 Honda crx hf..I know the rotary guys would hate me for it but I'm a Honda guy at heart but I'm willing to multicomply with new vehicles..Please don't hate me just wondering. .I was willing to make a fwd civic and so please don't hate me.




R3 / S2 Brakes on S1

Will this work? Also, are the brakes any different? Aren't R3 brakes brembos?




Rough on/off throttle response

I have rough response when going from fuel cut off and to where engine starts pulling. Or, if you like, from 0% to slight throttle. Its, not surprising, worst in 1&2nd gear, there it can start oscillating/jerking at low RPM.



If its of interest, it's also feels like very little power extra from 50->100% throttle, but I understand this is not unusual. Power is good though(225Hk estimated at flywheel, no CAT. For what its worth:eyetwitch). 60k miles.



I have

- Changed spark plugs

- Cleaned MAF. Was covered in oil, and has most likely been for a long time before I checked

- replaced MAF screen(original was torn)

- tried different maps(original and MM, 1st and 2nd tune)



Any ideas what to do next?

canyon runs

Took my car out last night put 40 miles of hard 2nd and 3rd gear pulls through the canyons up and down hills sharp hairpins and I absolutely loved it I was able to put my 8 wherever I wanted and she just went with it was entirely too much fun figured I'd share since I'm new in this rotary world lol

wanting an rx8

I am new to this forum so please pardon any mistakes to this. I am looking to purchase an RX8 and am located in the Ogden, UT area. Because of my location their are very few 8's available for purchase and I am unable to find one I want. :banghead: Due to this I am contemplating purchasing one out of state via ebay, craigslist or some other website. So my question for all of you is what are your opinions? and does anyone have any experiences with purchasing out of state regarding sales taxes and everything. Also I would prefer an 8 that is NOT silver(gray) or red, with less then 50,000 miles and preferably a series 2 however my max price is 15k so I may be out of luck, I just don't want to purchase one that will need a new engine within a couple years. Rx8 renesis over heating, then cuts out randomly

Hello all, i had the car 6 months, after replacing coil pack, leads, o2 sensor at the back car was o.k but now is over heating lossing power and cutting out any advice please.

I have a 2011 R3. My Samsung S3 pairs and functions just fine except I have to tell the car in setup to reconnect (not re-pair) to the phone every time I start it.

How often should I redline?! And what about the winter?!

Hey everyone,



I purchased my '04 RX-8 back in Feb. and I just want to make sure I am not ruining it! So any and all advice is welcomed. One thing I'd like to know is how often I should redline it? And the next question is, does anyone have any advice for the winter? I was thinking of buying snow tires. And idk if this helps but I brought with a new rebuilt engine. There's a little under 3k miles on the engine and 52k on the body.

2004 rx-8 looks clean

Hello Im looking at purchasing a 2004 RX-8 i have been reading other threads regarding this , I saw if the car passes the compression test and checks out fine i should be good to go , Im going for a test drive this weekend , form the carfax reports seems it been chilling at the dealership for 3 months so I thought I may have some room to Negotiate the price . Any way like to hear other peoples options i know 2004 are like the god of issues first year car duh , but if i watch the oil and fluids and matin the engine it should be fine right ?

ps . On a side note could you put a 2009 RX-8 engine Trans and Ecu in a 04 .

problems with my soeki hood dampers....

just got them in the mail today installed them but cant figure out why the back of the hood is now proped up about a 1/4 of an inch on both sides, any ideas? thanks for the advice!




Pilot Bearing Failure

My wife loves her RX models. Her first car was a first gen RX-7. Before I met her she had a '93. When we were dating she had an '04. Last year she purchased an '05 Shinka. I've been a mechanic, in one form or another, most of my life. I've done minor repairs to RX models in the past. Now it's like learning a whole new automotive language... no problem.





We picked up Susan's RX-8 last summer. The '05 Shinka was showing 90k miles with documentation of a factory replaced engine at 60K miles. Car ran great but it had an ever so slight rattling noise when the clutch pedal was depressed. It concerned me but didn't seem to affect the drivability. We put maybe 3k miles on the car last year when out of the blue the clutch wouldn't engage (disconnecting the engine from transmission). It acted as if the clutch master or slave cylinder was not performing properly. The car is well taken care of and not driven hard in the time we've owned it. I limped it home taking many precautions to not get stuck at stop signs or lights. By the time I got it in the driveway, pressing on the clutch pedal became completely useless. There was plenty of pressure/resistance on the pedal when pushed, it just didn't seem to operate the clutch assembly.





I was slightly confused as to how quickly the issue took place. My first thoughts were:

Clutch master or slave cylinder quit working or a leak developed.

Clutch pedal or push rod came out of adjustment or broke.

Clutch pedal bracket assembly fatigued/broke (although pedal still felt fine).

Clutch disc burst and debris was binding the pressure plate to the flywheel.

Pressure plate grenade'd and wasn't releasing when actuated.

Clutch fork bent or broke.





I also noticed DSC and Traction control lights lit up on the dash. Talk about trying to confuse a guy.





I put the car on jack stands and began diagnosing. No leakage at the master or slave. Clutch fork appeared to have sufficient travel. Pedal assembly in good working order and operation. Removed the starter looking for signs of ruptured clutch disc but all looked good. Time to pull the transmission. Once I dropped the exhaust and the torque bar (not sure of the proper term) between the trans and diff I had access to complete the removal of the transmission. All seemed to be going well until... trying to separate the transmission from the engine. It wouldn't budge. It took about an hour or mild pulling, prying and multiple checking (making sure I had everything disconnected) before the transmission came loose. Appeared as if the pilot bearing seized up and was trying to weld itself between the eccentric shaft and the input shaft of the transmission.





After careful inspection I came to the conclusion the bonehead that installed the engine 30k miles prior did not grease the pilot bearing before mating the engine to the transmission. Only reason the bearing didn't fail sooner is because the engine and trans are locked together except when at stop lights/signs when the clutch pedal is depressed.





It took awhile to get this job done as I was working on the car outdoors and the weather wasn't always agreeing. I did manage to have a little floor space in our garage to work on the transmission. The eccentric shaft was not damaged (thankfully) but the input shaft wasn't so lucky. I tried to clean it up with emery cloth but couldn't get all the pitting out to my satisfaction. We aren't planning on getting rid of the car and I want the work done correctly. I researched new transmissions and junk yard transmissions. I settled on repairing the transmission that was in the car as it worked well before the pilot bearing deteriorated. I ordered a new input shaft as well as an Exedy complete clutch kit and I began transmission disassembly.





I post this info as one of the few possibilities to some of the clutch issues associated with the RX-8 (e.g. pedal bracket failure, master/slave/line failures, clutch disc or pressure plate failures).





As for the car still pulling itself when the pedal was depressed, I'm sure there are those that would argue it's not possible for a car to move just from the locking of the pilot bearing while the clutch is being disengaged (pedal pushed in). I beg to differ.





The new input shaft went in with some work. Transmission was installed with the new clutch assembly. Everything seemed to fall back together much easier than coming apart. While the car was on jack stands I even installed new drilled and slotted rotors and brake pads along with wire brushing and painting the calipers and mounting brackets. As for the warning lights on the dash I figured it had something to do with transmission not disengaging. Once the car was on the ground and warmed up I took it for a drive and the warning lights went out rather quickly. We've put about 3k miles on the car since the repair with no transmission or clutch issues.





I'm obviously new to this forum (why I'm posting in the New Member Forum) and this is my first post. I read some other threads pertaining to clutch issues but didn't find one that was definitive to the pilot bearing same as the issue I had, although it had been mentioned.

After installation of the new input shaft. I wouldn't suggest a novice or intermediate mechanic attempt this. Too many things that can go wrong.











The old clutch assembly. Not only the lining is looking pretty worn but the springs in the disc were loose. I believe that's what was rattling when the pedal was depressed when we first got the car. Notice the hot spots in the pressure plate? We had a clutch chatter also. New clutch took care of that.

i started my car yesterday from work to go home and let it warm up turned my TC off and hit 9k then after i did the cel started blinking then when away and havent had it since i was just wondering if i should be worried or if theres something i could do to not have it happen again. thanks for the help!




SII engine light question

I used to get this light once in a blue moon. Now that winter is over it comes on at hwy speed on warm days. I've checked coolant levels and they are perfect, any thoughts?

Brand New Clutch Feels Soft

Hey all, So I needed a new clutch for the 8 and I decided to go with the exedy stage 1. Had a buddy's shop (this was probably the mistake) put it in and noticed it felt really soft. He said he noticed it too but "the reviews said it felt soft and they made it that way for daily driving so your foot won't get tired in traffic." Sounds believable, but this thing is INCREDIBLY soft, I don't even know where it bites unless I'm driving it. It just feels like there's a spring at the bottom of the pedal that's helping it back up.



So I took it back and he bled it for about a half hour, and it felt a LITTLE bit better but is still ridiculously soft. I've been driving it this way for about a month.



Well it's starting to genuinely **** me off so I decide to read on the interwebs and see everyone's saying it feels 10x better than stock, etc. etc. and even the description of the clutch says "designed to give an OEM feel" THIS DOESN'T FEEL LIKE OEM!



So my question, What could be going on with this thing? I'm not taking it back to his shop, I don't want him touching my car.



Keep in mind, it FEELS like a new clutch, it I just dump it between gears it kicks me in the ***, so that's nice. It just feels like there's no clutch in the pedal. My buddy's burned out stage 2 clutch on his miata feels stiffer than my brand new clutch.....

SSV, VDI Solenoids part #'s - 0661, 0076 Error codes

Done a good deal of searching here and confused with conflicting info as much as anything... One, I had these codes throw earlier this spring with a CEL. Reset the codes and now have the p0076 code with the p0061 code pending now without a CEL...



First question is what are the affects of running the car as-is with these codes, e.g. it won't harm anything, reduced performance?



Two, I've read info that the two solenoids that commonly throw these codes have the same part number: K5T49091 and read other info that isn't the case.



Thanks in advance for any help, I'm familiar how to replace the solenoids if needed by removing the UIM to get access to them. Instructions here replacing those are very good and more importantly consistent...




07 Rx8 single tick won't start

Good day,

I have changed the battery on my Rx-8 since battery was dead.



Now currently everything is plugged and tightened.



But sadly when ever I come to start the car, I hear a simply tick when I trying t5o engage the motor... But nothing happens apart from that, motor dosnt even try to start ...



Any ideas?




1JZ/2JZ mount kit

Hey guys! After some heavy thought I decided to swap in a 1JZ or 2JZ into my RX8 (I know I'm going to H*ll for it and etc) but the renesis engine seems to have let me down.



Does anyone know if there is a engine rx8 mount kit for the 1JZ/2JZ? I could only find one for the FD RX7 and I assume I cannot use that kit. I will be getting the engine in a rear sump configuration.

I have a very strange problem I've read everything from engine shot to crack in coolant reservoir. This is what I have noticed today I was driving my car to work with ac on it than stalled out thought maybe it was time for new spark plugs its started back up kind of hard turned off ac and it idled fine parked my car. came out on lunch break to see coolant on the ground under my car checked the level and it seemed full so I started it to see if it would die on idle with ac off it ran but I could smell burnt coolant. after inspection I can see coolant underneath the reservoir and it looks like it has dripped down onto my radiator. left work early drove it home to see it operating fine until after about 15-20 min engine temp started to rise,white smoke from engine bay I than turned it off and that's how it sits right now.

At E3 today the Next Forza was announced- Forza Horizon 2. For those not familiar Forza Motorsport is the full racing sim and the Forza Horizon Brand is an open world arcade style racer.



Forza Horizon 2 will have over 200 cars to choose from in an open world racing environment where you can compete in real time with other people from around the world. It was also announce that people will be able to create "Racing Clubs" with an upper limit of 1000 members.

I'm just new here , I'm just wondering if anyone has the bearing part # / size/ dimensions of the 2 bearings inside the alternator 2009 rx-8 thanks.




Okay to drive with alot of camber and a bit of toe

So my previous set up was bald with alot of camber wear. So i now have new wheels and tires. Waiting to get an alignment but im waiting on my coilovers from my buddy. And i cant get an alignment until i get the coils on.



My question is can i drive with the camber and toe on my new tires without causing damage or if it will cause damage at all ? When i look from the back my driver side rear wheel looks like at least -2 with toeing in. Looks messed.




catalytic converter ?

Hey guys,MY 8 is a 2004 with 90K on it, Im in need of a new catalytic converter, it was changed by the dealer along with the engine about 2 & 1/2 years ago, about 20K put on it. So is there some type of factory warranty on it other than the 1 year parts & labor the dealer is telling me. the other question is that is there an aftermarket CAT that i can buy thats legal in NY. hey guys i just recently started and drove my 8 after a complete engine rebuild. so when i first started driving her, it would stall at every light. did the brake pump 20 times in 8 second and since then it has'nt stalled and the car starts right up! ok cool, everything is fine....now i gutted the cat prior to the motor being installed (chunks of cat pieces were rattling inside) so now the car runs good and then at a stop light/sign the car lets out the blueish smoke. again the cat is gutted and the motor literally has 13 miles on it off the fresh rebuild. i changed plugs and wires (coils are next) giving me 3 cel codes, misfire cylinder 2 and fuel lean mixture and one for the cat obviously....any info on why its smoking would be cool....

The car has a R-Title in hand ready to go and all inspections up to date. It currently has 78k on it and it will increase as it is my daily driver. The car runs perfect and has been taken care of like it should. Oil changed every 2300k just changed it at 78k. Brakes are like new, AC works perfect, all tires are basically brand new, clutch was replaced at 75k with exedy OEM factory, engine is healthy and compression is where it needs to be. Body is in good condition, no rust or dents. Interior was swapped to black leather, I do have the original black/grey cloth I can add in for extra $ or swap back out at no charge. Help! Problems since changing air intake

Hello, i have just changed my air intake, removed the cone filter that was on and ive put the stock air intake box back on. I first had some problems with the car stalling out when i first changed this over, but after checking vaccum lines i managed to sort this problem out and it idles perfectly and doesnt stall out.



BUT, my problem no is that the car seems to have a power loss when i hit 3k RPM until 4k RPM, then it starts to pull away after 4K RPM. It only seems to do this since ive changed the air intak over, ive cleaned MAF, and reset the program with the 20 brake method



Any help on why im now getting this power loss would be great!

Temperature gauge and A/C

Hello, I am a new member to this site. However, I have done a lot of research on these forums in the past for my rx8. I have had it for 8'months and have not had any major problems.



There is a couple things that I am concerned about though. First off, my A/C blows hot air and then cold air after a while, but then turns hot again. And it does that the whole time I have my A/C ON. I'm thinking I might just need to recharge my AC.

But, then there is also my temperature gauge. The pointer stays in the middle for a while and then starts turning to the hot end of the gauge and then drops down to the middle, and it does this continuously.



Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.




Car dies 3 seconds after ignition (pos MAF)

Hey all,



2006 Shinka with 76000 miles.



I took a trip this weekend and drove my 8 perfectly for the 120+ mile trip and topped off the oil before I left. She ran great for the trip and I went around town today with some family and I had no problems at all when we were driving, but when I went to start her to take everyone home it would die after about 3 seconds and then try and come back by itself. When I say "come back" I mean it would seem to stall and then start back up for half a second then die.



I know its not flooded because I tried a de-flood and it instantly went to high rev after i came off the gas slowly.



This has happened to me before and the MAF sensor was to blame and all I needed to do was blow on it or spray it with MAF cleaner and the system would work. This time around I did get an OBDII code of P0113 for "air intake temperature". I was very confused by this because it was only 80 F outside today and not that humid. When I checked the live data for my IAT sensor it was coming back at 38 C



No leaks under the car and no fluids dripping anywhere. fuel pump is priming and sending fuel to the engine because the engine is starting and running for about 3 seconds and a few times even stalls and then comes back for a second. I honestly believe that I need to just go buy some MAF cleaner because my can is at home. :banghead:



Any ideas would be much appreciated and I am happy to provide any more information if needed.

Wiring/Electronic Relay help

I was wondering if anyone had some insight to help me out here. I have a fleet of tractor trailers. There has been a rash of people all over the country running into the back of parked or disabled trucks. In some cases people are winning large jury awards for accidents which the drivers of the cars were at fault. I won't get into extreme detail here, but what I want is to supplement the warning triangles/flares we are required by law to put out when disabled and the hazard lights.



They make these LED flashers which I have on my pickup, that I want installed on our trailers. Here is the problem. Power is fed to the trailers via what we refer to as a "pigtail". Without power from the vehicle the trailer is dead. I want these lights to come one when the trucks hazard lights are activated, but not when either left or right signal indicator is turned on. My initial thought was a relay (if it exists) that could have two power ins (if that makes sense) from the left and right turn signal. Both of these would need to feed power to the relay before power would be supplied to the flashers. However the problem with that is the power source to the relay would be on off on off due to the flashing of the hazards. The only other continuous power would be the running lights, but obviously we don't want the flashers running just because the lights are on. I don't want any switches that the driver has to remember to turn on/off. If anyone has any ideas how this might be possible, I would certainly appreciate some insight. As well as a source for this elusive relay.

Check Engine Light

I just recently bought an 05 rx8 with 81,000 miles. Ive been noticing a jerking in the vehicle when in first gear accelerating toward 3000rpm. Its only when the car is cold. Also the check engine light came on right after it was at its worst. Any suggestions?

I have a 2005 Legacy GT that I have had since new. Only has 106k on it, but I have always liked the RX-8 and would like to switch it up. I like the S1 more than the s2 as far as looks. I would prefer a 40th AE if I could.



Anyone else gone from a subaru to an RX-8? I live in SoCal and do a lot of canyon driving, I want to start doing lapping days and autos, but want to go to rwd platform.

So I live in a small town in Iowa. Car is from Florida! My question is can I run 87 (regular) gas? Otherwise we only have 91 about 15-20 minutes away? Would it be ok to run the 87 and every now and then put the 91 in? Is the 91 enough? Simple answers please! Thanks guys!

Have a 2004 rx8 with 51,200 miles. Purchased 5/29 from PA Auto Select in Downingtown. Drove home then on Friday night light came on. Came back to Downingtown today had tech look at said had a code p2259 related to air pump. He cleared code and was told if came back to come back. Drove home as I approach light back on??! Car was driving good but this continues to be an issue. Car is auto with grand touring. Will I continue to further damage things by driving? I can't get back to shop till next week. Appreciate any info. Thanks.

Just thought to share with you my RX-8 which I bought in january.



Before bying, I had read this forum and all other places for things to worry about when bying one, still I had to get one! :) And finally, after a year hoping to get one, I did!



So, I found cheap (budget :( ) 2004 RX-8 in lightning yellow, leather seats and high power engine which had 79k on the clock











Previous owners had installed some chinese exhaust header, remus rear silencer and huge wing on the boot :D



Originally, the car started nicely, no rattles or anything, i drove it about 2000miles and then the worst possible thing happened :(



Huge oil leak, terrible vibration, took it to my workplace to see what's going on.



Did a compression test for it and didn't look too good..







That's around 53psi, per rotor

























Stripped it apart and doesn't look too good :(



























IMO there's really nothing useful left in that engine?





Currently im on the look out for a new engine. From Mazda dealer new engine is 6400euros which is about $8700 ?
