What to do with low compression Renesis

Just wondering what you guys ended up doing with your low compression renesis if you happened to not be covered by the manufacturer 8yr warranty. I know all of 2004 2005 and 2006 guys are our of luck once the engine pops.



Just curious on what you did with the motor or if any one knows a business or shop that likes to buy blown renesis as cores or for parts.

Had this in my car for literally 6 months (20,000km). I have receipts to prove the mileage on them. You can also see in the pictures the condition of the clutch. It is pretty much brand new, I commute 2 ways between Toronto and St. Catharines so the mileage racks up quite a bit. Needless to say, most of its life was spent on the highway hence the condition.



Why am I selling this? My car was misdiagnosed and it turned out to only be a pilot bearing failure. I had already purchased a new clutch kit by the time I was informed and I just decided to install the new one while the transmission was out. Now I have a near new clutch sitting in my garage that I do not need.



This is the OEM clutch kit made by Exedy (Part# MZK1002). Comes with everything it would brand new minus the pilot bearing.



I'm looking to get $275 for the kit.

UPDATE: Still need help

Hello everyone I have a 05 shinka AT with 101,000 on original engine (ours is the 13B right).



I changed the sparkplugs, wires, coils, seafoamed, new oil and filter, and new air filter. Same problem keeps happening.





When i start my car it idles at 1000 rpm then automatically stalls out it does this when first started but is more prone when i have driven 5+ miles then come to a stop at a light or sign.





I plan on replacing the cat with a midpipe next paycheck but not sure if this is the problem i know it only takes about an hour to drop the cat and look but i dont have the time right now.





What else could it be compression check says seals are fine.

Here's what I'm definitely planning to do:



- Engine air filter

- Transmission fluid

- Differential fluid

- Brake fluid

- Spark plugs

- Ignition coils

- Ignition wires



Engine oil and oil filter change won't be necessary (did those recently enough).



I'm also considering changing coolant, thermostat, and water pump. Will take input on that.



Brake pads are not dead, but they're low enough that I'll probably change them while the system needs bleeding.



I plan to go OE on everything. The car is still under warranty so I want to be 100% within the lines, especially as I am DIYing.



For parts sources, I'm thinking Mazmart for the coils and plugs, and onlinemazdaparts.com for the rest.



Have I left anything out? Is any of this overkill? Are there other parts sources I should look at?

Just giving a hello to the members of these forums. So far I've been learning a lot from your newbie threads and I want to come in and say that it's amazing all the dedication and hard work this community has put into pushing new Rx8 owners, as well as existing, on the right path to keeping an amazing car going.



I just purchased a 2005 Rx8 Shinka (Quick edit: 51k miles on original engine, fully maintained, taken to dealership twice a year, clean CarFax). I only discovered this section after purchasing the car, so I haven't done any pressure testing but so far from driving it around some it's been running spectacular. I'm going to go through a majority of what's been written up and check up on my engine and car to keep it up to standards. I'll be reading through all the newbie threads word for word, follow links, and make my best effort to research and maintain my car to the best of my abilities. I moved from a 1998 Lincoln Navigator, so it's so much different.



The vehicle has a few minor common issues, like one of the rear lights taking in a bit of water, the window grinds and gets a little stuck, and a few switches are wonky. Nothing I haven't found online to fix so I'm getting to that as soon as I can. As I went to fix the light today, one of the bolts broke without even tightening it very much so it looks like I'll have to purchase a new rear light.



I do have a couple questions that I can't seem to find answers to here that maybe someone might have advice on. They're a bit of a long shot but I appreciate any help in advance.



Firstly, my A/C switch works, as does the A/C itself. The only issue with it though is that sometimes the lights on the actual switch get a little weird, and they don't quite tell me what's going on with it. They will not light up the defrost sometimes, others nothing will light up and sometimes some will light up. I figure it just needs a switch replacement which isn't a big issue but maybe someone knows what's going on more specifically.



Another question I have has to do with the steering wheel. Now, I'm not looking to race this car, but I am 6'7" and though driving the car is easy even as tall as I am, I'd like to heel-toe the break and the gas for hills so I don't have any roll back or have to mess with the handbrake. I saw that some folk like to use specific other Mazda wheels in their vehicle and my question is this: Does anyone know if there are smaller wheels than the standard 2005 RX8 with a functional airbag that works well with the Rx8 or would I pretty much have to lose that feature for the expense of having a smaller wheel? I know it's a strange question, so I appreciate any input.



Lastly, this is something I'm going to research further on my own but since I'm starting a tread, I'd like to see if anybody has aftermarket stereos they really enjoy or prefer. I mostly want it for an audio jack. I know that there is the GTA plug that hooks up but to be honest (and I know I'm going to probably receive a little flak for this) I'm not too fond of the stock stereo. Don't like how it looks so much and I figure it won't cost much to purchase a new one. Just wondering. If nobody would like to input here, that's perfectly fine, I'm going to look into it further as it is.







I think that's about it. I do a lot of electronic installs in other vehicles at work.... including breathalyzers, complete police and K9 vehicle installations, 2-way radio installations, and worked on a Fire Truck today so I'm not too worried about replacing switches, mounting a radio or any other work in the vehicle. Again, I love what's been done with these boards and the collaborative effort put into them has really put a great knowledge base with some great discussions from what I've seen so far. Steering shuddder

Is it normal for the steering assembly to shudder on start up. My 03 (AT) always does that but only on first start of the day. I have resorted to 'playing' the steering wheel left and right 2 or 3 times before the shuddering stops before i engage into gear. Is it normal or is it a warning to a failing power steering?

We've all heard of Mad Mike Whiddett right?! Yes? Good.

I'm curious to know all the steps it would take to get a project car close the pure rotary awesomeness of his Badbull, Madbull, and Radbull.



So lets say I hypothetically won a lottery of 40 million, and after taxes, I only ended up with 20k. :banghead:



With a budget like this, what steps would be necessary to take in order to make this hypothetical car? I have done quite an extensive amount of research, however, being my overzealous, and inexperienced self, I cant help but KNOW I am missing a few steps.:lol:



So to start off, I might happen to have an (almost) bone stock manual 04' RX-8.

And to use up as little of this amazing budget as possible, I could hypothetically do all the labor myself.:D: AAAND lets say I happen to have some connections, such discounts for places to acid bath and seam weld my chassis, paint, and whatnot.



I am interested in engine swaps and peripheral porting, all the crazy stuff everyone wants. But I am NOT interested in being told how dumb this thread is, or being told to "Search N00b" because I know the complications with funding, practicality, and lack of street use, and I have searched the forums (lazily).



I'm really just interested in seeing what you more experienced and knowledgeable people have to say about the build, not the life issues that would tag along with it, and any additions would be sweet!



Be respectful people! If this has been posted before, just give me a gentle shove in the right direction :D




Taking A Trip.. Advice Please

Hey guys, I've had my 2007 rx8 for about 6 months now and since the engine replacement I've been sure to redline it at least every time I drive it but I've only driven it around town since I bought it. So my question is during a 4 hour drive how many times should I redline it? Thanks

Hey guys,



Happy to finally join the RX8 club.



My dad used to own a FB back when he was younger and I have owned an FB and FC in the past.



Fast forward to current and about a year ago I picked up a pristine GSL-SE almost completely stock. Been driving her around and loving it but as with all cars about 30 years old theres a few things that are hard to fix and find replacements for. My a/c doesn't work neither does my sunroof and in my household I am the only one with a car.



No a/c sucks, and showing up to work all sweaty when you're about to start training people isn't fun. Not being able to work on my car and have her undrivable for a day is unacceptable because I drive to multiple locations for my job and I love working on my car but honestly a project has never taken less then one day to complete on her. I've had 5 people in my FB at once, almost everyday for months because I was the only one with a vehicle. Heck she holds lots of memories for me and my friends but I decided it was time for me to get something new, reliable, with a/c, backseats, and what better choice then to keep it in the family and pick up an 8.a steal.



Just picked up my RX8 the other day and although she needs a little TLC I already love her. I got a midnight blue ( custom paint ) 2004 RX8 GT with 60,000 miles on her for a steal. The guy bought it from his buddy when he got deployed and doesn't use it.. been sitting for a month or two with only a sunday drive here and there.



Has a Veilside body kit, not sure if I like it or want to go back to stock. Shitty aftermarket stereo which I want to change back to stock too. Nice full exhaust forget the brand but was a genuine brand. Missing a plastic piece that moves the seat, still usable just the button gone. TCS and ABS light on ( battery was dead but still determining if that was the cause or something else like alignment maybe )



All in all I'm happy, I love my RX8 and look forward to making her my own. And no, I'm not selling my FB but I am restoring her. I look forward to all the help I'll get from this forum

Rx-8 MECHANIC NEEDED !!!

HELP!!! I love my RX-8 and am looking for someone that knows about them and can help teach me. Most of the mechanics I've talked to either don't know much about them or won't have anything to do with them. (The first guy that worked on it flooded it and didn't even realize it). I want to take care of my car like it needs to be or find someone that can take care of it for me. I'm in the Northwest Georgia area. rx8 dies when let off gas

Ok so I bought a 04 rx8 with a132000 miles it had a it idled fine then would idle rough for a couple seconds about a month after I got it my gf shut it off after about 30sec...it flooded we pull started it got it to start but it burned up the catalytic converter. Needless to say it flooded I changed out the cat with a bhr midpipe I put new spark plugs and new plugs wires in it went to start it it wasn't turning over right so pull started it again got it running ran fine at high rpms. But died once I let of the gas and when driving it had no power and my check engine light was on before it started but currently is not...any ideas? Please tell me it's not the engine

New rx8 owner

Well until two days ago I didn't know anything about rotary engines or how they differ from other cars. So I went to a Mazda dealership that had only one 2004 rx8 6 speed manual with 130,000 they also had it over priced, after the test drive which it drove fine I wasn't really use to the rpm , got back they tried to move it and turn it over for five seconds started, then they got a battery box and it started up, took it to the back to get it looked at. I almost guessed something simple like the battery at first, after asking multiple times will it make it back to where I live and got a repeated yes, made an offer that was under a fair price that I could use towards fixing it. Car was still in back, they did take their time , then came back offered it to me for about half the asking price said it would need some work later on but after asking again will it drive to where I live and them telling me yes, I got it. :banghead: well it drove fine for an hour until I noticed a light flashing " low coolant " , then hit traffic jam started idling low almost died a few , about thirty minutes form where I was going dash lights started coming on, then I noticed gas gauge was empty and light was on " best guess heat messed up electronics" fuel was still there, made it back and tried to turn it over didn't do anything. The sales guy called the next day I told him about 8 pm, followed by the coo/manager of the dealership sending me a email at 2 am today I told him what happened and gave the number to the shop I left it at. Anyway very interesting start, hopefully things work out.

loss of power pinging

Hi I need help here. Have had my series 1 for the past couple of months now. Was running great until a couple of days ago. No warning symbol and No fault code is shown. It cranks and starts fine and drives fine for a good distance, however after driving for a while (maybe when engine warms up), pressing the gas peddle emits a pinging/rattling noise and the car would lose power. By steadily maintaining the rpm below 2 the pinging noise is not heard. If i stop for even 20 mins. Its fine again until after a while then the pinging starts. This only when car is in motion, when idlin it does not do this. Would anyone advise what this is and what i need to replace? Does it have to do with the fuel delivery system, broken pump or worn filter? Im a bit lost when it comes to engines so would appreciate what i should look forward to when i take it to a shop.




imoblization issue

we are building a second RX8 this year for my brother and we are hoping to get on track with it next weekend however we ran into trouble tonight when we went to start it. we have power to everything but no crank (unless we jump the fuse box to the starter) so we know it is not a battery issue. We also know that all the fuses and relays are good. The BAD is that we also know the mobilizer light is flashing about every 2 seconds... over and over even with the key in the on position. The car is basically stock in regards to wiring, ecu, etc. (no extra gauges yet, no kill switch yet, no Data yet, no "extra stuff) the wiring harness, ECU, immobilizer, key and ignition switch all came out of a donor car that ran before. Just to clarify when I say wiring harness I do mean the entire thing. this car was gutted down to a bare chassis, painted and rebuilt...





In short, any ideas on how to "pair" or bypass the immobilizer? Anyone here have the tool to pair them if that is our only option? We could tow it to a local dealer but I am not sure if they will work on it for us or not.

Sustained Start Position and Reduced Vapor

Ok, so quick background: my cat died so I knocked it out and I've been living with the stink for several weeks. No big deal. I've installed the BHR ignition and I've got a hi-flow intake filter, so life is good after the car is warmed up. The problem has so far been the VERY rich startup mixture and vapors/ white smoke that follows me around if I don't baby the car along for the first five miles of my commutes. This is the initial richness that I suspect was the cause of the cat's demise.



Here's the thing: For the last few days as an experiment I've been sustaining the ignition switch for a hair longer than I normally would.. I mean a hair longer. I wait for the torque to reverse at the flywheel and then let off the ignition. My usual routine previously was to just kinda tweak the ignition to start the car and not think too hard about it. So with this longer ignition time.... there has been NO smoke. None... as if the mixture has been leaned-out at startup as opposed to rich. It's awesome... but I have no idea why the car is doing this.



Can anyone comment on this? ECU protocol? What?

Fog lights issue

One of my Fog lights went out the other day. Before I went and got a new bulb I made sure it was the bulb and not the wiring, so I swapped the lightbulbs.



I ordered the light bulb from mazda(9006), picked it up today and when I plugged it in nothing seem to work. Neither of them seems to be lighting up the bulb. I took a voltage meter to test to voltage and it doesn't seem like its reading anything.



Anyone know what could have happened?

Looking into buying an 8, questions, ASAP

Hello,

I'm new here, let me tell you guys a bit about myself. I'm a car enthusiast, looking to go into auto-mechanics. I'd be taking care of any car I purchase myself. Also, I'm a senior in high school (please refrain from flaming). Inspection requirements are NJ.



I'm in the process of finding an RX-8 for purchase. One that I am looking at now is a 2004 Rx-8, 78,xxx miles.

Exterior has denting on drivers side on the door, apparently from a car door in NYC. Apart from that, exterior is flawless.



Interior is pristine as well.





Now for the reason I am coming to your guys.

The car failed inspection, due to emissions.

Exhaust looks stock, has cats.

CEL is on.

Error code P0562 is present.

Negative battery terminal has quite a bit of corrosion going under the heat wrap of the wire.

Exhaust gas smells stronger than a regular car, but nothing disastrous, no hints of burning oil.



Minor, perhaps related issues?

When I got into the car, trip-meter was at 0. seemed odd, did not ask owner.

Radio does not seem to work. Being a child of the 21st century I doubt it is due to my inability to turn radio on properly





After doing a bit of research, and consulting/running ideas past an older acquaintance who does all the work on his own '95 nissan 300zx these are the deductions I've made.



Error code has to do with charging system... incorrect voltages reaching PCM. Replacing and sealing corroded terminal/battery cable should clear the error code.



Now, could this charging system fault be causing dirty emissions, thus failing inspection?



Or do I need to replace cats and O2 sensors in order to pass inspection?

Stereo problems due to a sun visor problem

Hey everyone I recently got my 2004 Rx8 Grand Touring and since it is used I have had to fix a couple things (clutch hose, coolant reservoir, etc..) but recently I have been having a couple of problems with it because it doesn't fire up right away, I know it's not normal but I've been trying to do research because everyone says something different. Well today I was driving and I decided to have a little fun and punch it at least through the first 2 gears (I did not redline but I was at least at 8500rpm) and my sun visor, which had been broken and held by the clip for a while, fell and I pulled the wires off while driving and all of a sudden it kind of just shut down. My engine was running and everything was fine but my stereo turned off and the display wouldn't show up and to top it off the dreaded CHECK ENGINE light came on. The car has been starting fine but when I turn it off the gauges stay all the way up, when before they would go down and when I turn it on they all move back and forward twice before starting.. I was thinking it might just be a fuse but the check engine light kind of scared me. Also I tried to plug the sun visor in to see if it worked again and nothing changed. Has anyone else ever had this problem?

ssv solenoid replaced, new issue

I just replaced the ssv solenoid. Hooked everything back up after the same way it was before. I did remove the battery completely during the whole time. CEL is now fixed, but now the DSC/TCS light is staying on and the DSC OFF light is flashing. It idols great and revs fine, but is back firing when I release the throttle.



I'm having difficulty tracking down what has happened. Please can someone help me with a few search phrases that will help get this resolved?

Condition:

These were dedicated autocross tires which were almost never driven on the street. They were used for 2 events in 2013 plus 6 events in 2014, for a total of less than 100 autocross runs (mostly asphalt). Tread depth (see pics below) is above 5/32nd's on all four tires. The RX8 is very easy on tires, and tread wear is very even across the face of each tire.



Tread Splice: Minor, cosmetic tread splice is very common with BFG Rivals. These tires all show some minor tread splice, which appeared within the first handful of autocross runs and has never gotten worse. BFG and Tire Rack have discussed this issue on several forums, and it has been deemed cosmetic and not a safety or performance issue.

Hey guys, newbie to the forum, new RX8 owner (still have to name her) just picked her up today. Will post some pictures soon, rained this afternoon. While new to the forum, been reading your postings for a long time, and yes, read new/potential owners posting multiple times before I decided on this one, 2009 with only 20K miles and one owner (will be hitting Carbon8 for a compression test, hey in my neck of the woods :)).

The reason why I am selling the kit is because I am back in California and smog and inspection makes it impossible to have this equipment. This kit is ready to install and includes EVERYTHING you need to turn your RX8 into a beast---I would estimate I was making over 330whp at 14psi.



I ran the kit for maybe 3,000 miles with a number of upgraded parts:

-BNR rebuilt water cooled turbo (3,000 miles)

-Welded Greddy BOV and welded recirculation fitting w/ hose

-Upgraded Samco couplers

-Newer ebay intercooler (3,000 miles)

-Cobb Accessport



The price is $3500 located in Sacramento, CA. You pay shipping & fees.




Fuel pump, SSV, or bad gass?

Ok here's the thing it's not bad compression not hot start problem at all. As the title states my thinking is one of the three. Here's the problem got my new header gasket on (car sat for two weeks on 1/4 tank) started her up she started right away no trouble there let her idle for a bit because she sat there for so long. Took her out for a spin all was good through all RPM ranges. Went got fuel and noticed a hesitation or kick down in power at about 4500 RPM she's pretty limp till she hits about 7k then bam a blast of power she comes to life and goes. Now my thinking is bad gas because it happened right after fill up or condensation built up in the tank cause she sat so long with only 1/4 tank days have been hot and night cool. I also think perhaps fuel pump going bad but why would it spring back to life at 7k RPM. Or SSV seeing if I'm not miss taken is suppose to open at around 4500 and this is where you can feel a drop in power but again why the spring back to life at 7k. BHR coils plugs wires all done at the start of the year. No CAT. And one other thing makes me think fuel pump is if you let her climb slowly no drop in power it only dose this if you push the pedal and maker her go. Pumps never been replaced as far as I know and it never showed up on any service records so it has 140k miles on it. SSV has more than likely never been cleaned ether. Any thought on what I could be would be grate.

Main idea is value. In Prague, Rx in any condition go for 3 x cost of uk car. Even crashed cars go for same price as my runner.

Low compression?

Hello...I just bought a 2004 XR-8 with 46000 miles. It is an automatic 4 speed transmission and onw by a lady before...I took it to Mazda for a compression test. They said it was low...6.2 to 6.7.:banghead:..Now, What does that mean?, do I need a new engine?...Is it possible to get these values up with a carbon clean up or by any other method?....

Any help on this subject would be greatly appreciated...

Hi all, I hope to be swapping out my black on black leather gt for Khaki interior. I have searched but cannot find anything specific for this answer, does anyone know if the 2007 khaki leather seats will fit to the seat rails of my 2005 GT with black leather? ..... not a problem if I can just use mine.

I would imagine everything should be generic for series 1. thanks

How do I remove the rear quarter panels?

my current ones are rusted like a beotch. Needless to say, I found a donor car with little to no rust.



All in all, I'm planning on cutting my current ones out and welding new ones on. Only concern I have are the reinforcements.



If anyone has done this, knows someone that has done this or knows where I can find out how I may proceed to do this myself. Please let me know.



I miss my old RX8, I can't wait to restore it.

Help.

So when I'm in the drive thru or just have my foot on the break there's a really loud clunky sound that vibrates the car. And when it's in park it sounds like it's going to shut off. From what I've read could it be collapsed motor mounts? Or does the throttle body need cleaned? Or is it something else?

Mazdaspeed cold air intake and winter

I have a 2006 GT which came with dealer installed wheels and Mazdaspeed cold air intake. I've had the car for a month and think it's great. I intend to drive it through the winter and I am a little concerned that the CAI might be a problem with water ingestion during the winter. I live in Kingston On. and we get a fair amount of rain and wet snow. What are some opinions and experiences with this set up in the winter?




Issues when pressing gas pedal

Hello got an 05 auto w/ optional manual

my issue is whenever i start out my car feels like its having trouble whenever i press the gas pedal down. After i press it down i can feel the car like studder, even if i press the pedal all the way down it will take like 4-5 seconds before it auctally starts reving up.



-1st Test: at stop sign pressed the pedal about half way down car takes studders rpms won't shoot up until around 3500 rpm.

-2nd test: at stop sign pressed the pedal to the floor same thing as number 1.

-3rd test: at 40 mph i floor it and it goes but doesn't seem like it had the power i used to have about a week ago.



it seemed like i started having these issues after poruing a whole can of seafoam into my gas tank (the gas tank was full)



any ideas.?

The seats have no rips, the backs on the front seats have small scratches and thats about it id say all together they are a 7.5 out of 10. Im asking $350 O.B.O. for front and rear seats. Masked P0420 with COBB AP. Now P0037 surfaces.

Recently obtained a Cobb AP V2. Using an old MazSport DR MP and have a CEL. Went through the process of marrying AP, using ATR to unchecked P0420 in Advance Parameters -> DTCs, and flashing that stock map onto the RX-8. There was no CEL after the flash.



Today I checked if it is ready with my OBDII scanner using Torque (expected unready due to lack of drive cycle) and right away, I see a CEL. I scanned it and it came up to be "P0037 Rear HO2S heater control circuit low ON 2 HO2S heater." The Catalyst, Evap Sys, Secondary Air Sys, and O2 sensor is still listed as "INCOMPLETE/NOT READY".



Could I need a new rear O2 sensor? If so, is it possible to mask the P0037 with Cobb AP and still have no more than one DTC unready? NYS Inspection is due and requires no more than one unready with zero DTC's (CEL). Just need something for the interim so I can get the inspection done ASAP.
